- alilodd80Stow, Ohio685 contributionsFun marketThis market is similar to other markets in major cities. It’s bigger though, so we spent a couple hours browsing and choosing our lunch. As tourists, we didn’t buy any cheese or meat, but it was fun to look around.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 28, 2023
- Hawklord_pxr5Galashiels, United Kingdom874 contributionsGreat placeThis a great way to spend some time, particularly if you’re looking for reasonably priced snacks or meals. If you’re not hungry when you go in, you will be soon enough! Vast array of food vendors and surely something you will fancy. Lots of ingredients to but and take way too.Visited October 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten April 5, 2023

- Melanie TNew York City, New York4,670 contributionsLots of options to choose fromIt wasn't too crowded for a Friday at around 11:30, so it was a pleasant experience to walk around. The market isn't that big but there are still lots of options to choose from. They sell everything such as souvenirs, meats, seafood, produce, desserts, bakery items, and there are some lunch spots as well. We didn't try anything since we had just come from brunch but it seems like a cool place to go food hopping (though some of it can be pretty pricey).Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 16, 2023
- Gabriel CToronto, Canada3 contributionsGreat local experience for newcomersMy friend took me there on my second weekend in Toronto, for some grocery shopping. It was a great experience for a newcomer like me, who love visiting local markets when in a new city. I was quite impressed by how neatly the pieces of meat and fish were displayed, making you really want to buy them. There is a terrace on the second floor so we could eat some fresh bakery and drink coffee just bought from the market.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 20, 2023

- SarahDanniSeattle, Washington712 contributionsVery cool spot for locals and tourists. Decicious food options! What a delightful experience, right downtown! It wasn't too crowded, despite being a Saturday around 10am. I had freshly shucked oysters, and a lobster roll for breakfast. My friends had the traditional Peameal Bacon sandwich. There was a nice blend of eat now food, and seafood/meats/produce to take home and cook. There were plenty of locals on hand doing some shopping. Everyone working here and shopping was so friendly. I'd def recommend on a trip to Toronto!Visited June 2023Traveled with friendsWritten June 14, 2023
- TeammilitelloDes Moines, Iowa741 contributionsTry the Salman Candy soaked in Maple SyrupWe found the store in the center of the basement where they sell caviar. The Salmon Candy cost $35 Canadian dollars. I didn’t care. This is a must-do at this place. It tasted like beef jerky. Amazing! My 4 teenage sons all got bubble tea (Boba) from the store behind them. Amazing again.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 21, 2023

Great vibe in and around Market St. Really good mix of one off cafes and stalls and fresh food counters. Of course had to have a Peameal Bacon Roll from Carousel which was predictably awesome! I have been going to the St Lawrence market since I first started working downtown in the early ‘80’s. It was a fabulous place to peruse, chat with specialists and get to know the purveyors. Over the years the Market has become much more commercial and less “small town” in nature. The price points are now above most good local butchers/seafood counters that I frequent, even the more expensive choices.
It’s unfortunate yet for visitors to TO or those looking for a fun way to spend a morning over a coffee and peameal while wandering, it’s still a wonderful place. My suspicion is the price of real estate in the surrounding area has contributed to the upward pricing mechanism. A must see place for the foodie!!

There is everything you could imagine inside this quaint and historically significant building.
It is easy to spend a whole day here. There are a large number of vendors and in particular some of the best fresh seafood jn the city. In addition if you are looking for superior quality meats, bread or preservers then look no further.
The only downside of this place is its tight quarters and heavy pedestrian traffic. Also some items are very overpriced compared to farmers markets, so go here for the experience or if you dont have a car.
There are still the occasional deals to be found.
Tip: Check out the restaurant Busters Sea Cove - incredible.

I come to Toronto once a year and the St. Lawrence Market is always on my todo list. Just looking at the food counters, imagine what you could cook with the ample selection of fresh fish - wonderful and inspiring. At the far end of the hall is a fish bar preparing simple but excellent fish meals at very reasonable prices. Try the St. Lawrence River trout

I live a few short blocks from the market. It has high quality, meat, fish, cheese and other fine foods. For the tourists it is a must visit in the city. However, with so many customers it is important to know the prices are really inflated for many things, especially produce. Off season their source is the same as the grocery stores yet the prices are on average $1.00 a pound higher than the Metro across the street. My favourite tea is $6.99 for a box of 80 bags at Metro and I once paid $12.99 at the Market for the same box. It is unfortunate that they have chosen to go this route.

We visited the market as a family of 4, with 2 kids ages 13 and 10. The fruits all laid out were beautifully presented, the ready to eat foods and snacks all smelled wonderful, and the candy vendors had sweet treasures to taste. Vendors of all kinds inside, outside, upstairs and down. It was a great visit.

Overall, this market has most things a traveler wants to see in a classic high ceiling historic indoor market.....go to any market in other places like Italy or Spain, and you will find preserved meats and cheeses, other local favorite items, a rustic charm and protection from the elements. At this location, great for buying maple syrup if you are a local or returning to your home via bus or train. For airplane travelers, sorry but our global security and TSA ruins all that because most large syrups are way too many ounces to be approved for plane carryon. But back to my point, what is missing? Every market I've been to has at least 1 or 2 places to relax and have a beer and order food, and be able to watch the local people walking by. Why does this market not have a place to sit and order a beer? I don't know. Sounds un-Canadian to me !

I ve started visiting the market back in the 70s. It is a strong tradition for many torontonians. All for good reasons why the children, now grown up, take their own children there. The place is a mecca of foods! Its like a mix of a bazzar, selling clothes, specialty foods, butchers and delis. Having a peameal bacon sandwich is a tradition to many. This is also the place to buy something you wont find in most places. For example, this is where I can still find genuine foie gras so as to make my own pate. There is also a man who makes his own jams. Fabulous! ..and like most kiosque holder at the market he will take the time to talk to you about his products, where he comes from and how it all came to be.
This is a great place to visit. I recommend it to anyone visiting Toronto. Great fun for the whole family!

Even on a busy Saturday, the lines at the eateries in the St Lawrence Market move quickly enough to mostly satisfy angst ridden teens who would rather look at their phones than truly soak in one of the great markets of the North. Cute shops, international stalls, and various eateries are on the first floor. Second floor is mostly meat and cheeses, with some great seafood and oysters for fresh eating. Recommend turning off the data on your teen's phone and then claiming you have no idea what is going on. Enjoy watching them wail and foment, then, with any luck they might enjoy the day. Or not, just get a big coffee and almond croissant at Balzacs and you'll be fine either way 🙂

I am a regular at the st. Lawrence Market. It has a good vibe over the weekend packed with tourists and locals. There is a wide variety of things happening at the market over the weekend. There is live music played by local artists outside on the lower floor, there is the farmers market in the tent outside of the main market on Saturdays and then antique market on Sunday. The variety of food options in the market is quite amazing too.

St.Lawrence Market is a great indoor specialty market experience in Toronto’s harbor district. Shoppers can purchase fresh meats, cheeses, wines, fruits, olives, bakery and specialty items. Likewise we found specialty kitchen items, olive oils and Canadian souvenirs. St. Lawrence Market has outdoor seating with umbrellas and several lounge chairs for guests to enjoy a coffee or one of their many purchases. It was a bit crowded when we attended but I recommend St. Lawrence Market for an early morning shopping experience with friends or couples.

Suggestions for a kid friendly restaurant to take our girls’ hockey team? There will be about 40 people.

I suggest you take the team to Marche on Front Street, Toronto. This restaurant is has everything under the sun. The girls will get to walk about, choose and order what they want. Lots of choices from pizza stations, pasta stations, sushi, roasting station (steak, chicken, ribs), salads, seafood, desserts, coffee bars, etc. It is also directly behind the Hockey Hall of Fame.
