I stayed here for one week during July. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The rooms were also clean and the staff obviously took the time to cover the corners in the bathroom which often get overlooked.
The gym facility was a decent size and had a couple treadmills an adjustable bench and some dumbbells. There was also a restaurant on site and a full Starbucks, which was very convenient. The hotel contracted pay parking at a nearby garage, but the staff pointed out how to park on the street for free in the afternoon/evenings if you were going to be gone during the day. Be careful though, you could easily get a ticket if you left your car on the wrong side of the street overnight. The staff were very friendly, and could give an hour explanation for the simplest things if you wanted.
The hotel was located within the southern edge of historic Fredericksburg, and was close to a Metro station. The dining and shopping in the area was average. There were a number of "Irish" bars in the area, but most of them were just regular restaurants or bars with O-something names and generic meal options; I'm pretty sure I get Hormel stew from one when I ordered Irish stew. The best was the Colonial Tavern which was a short walk, had live music, a legitimate atmosphere, and good food. I considered it the only actual Irish bar in the area.
Overall the hotel was good, but average. The location was fine, but nothing special other than having that old colonial feel. If you have a choice, Alexandria offers the old colonial feel, with better shopping and dining.
