It was during my third visit to Manila when I managed to stay in Shangri-La and ever since past 8 years I would have stayed here atleast 10-15 times. A very beautiful hotel and very large rooms and I used to get a upgrade to the club floor occasionally. The ambience is good the lobby is full of activities especially if its X mas time. The restaurants are great and food is sumptuous. Being an Indian I used to get indian food for all the buffets be it breakfast or dinner. Its centrally located surrounded by shopping centers and malls. A place worth recommending.

Dear JijuP,

Thank you for taking the time to recount your previous stay with Makati Shangri-La, Manila. Now is another great time to stay in the city as Christmas activities are everywhere, and we are especially looking forward to lighting up the lobby once more for the annual Christmas tree decor. The Indian buffet section is still one of the highlights at Circles Event Cafe, thanks to our new Indian chef Singh who makes sure that dishes stay as authentically Indian as can be. I hope to see you back in the hotel again on your future business or leisure travels to Manila.

Sincerely,

I have stayed at the Makarti Shang many times, it is simply one of the best five start hotels in Manila. Great service and amenities, I have to admit its quite pricey but you get what you pay for. I always upgrade to the Horizon club, its an extra charge but you get free breakfast, high tea and drinks an nibbles in the evening, actually not bad value if you take advantage of it.

This was my second time staying in Makati Shangri-la for my business trip. This round I stayed for 7 nights and the service was the same, as fantastic as my last year trip. I took the hotel transfer from airport and was greeted warmly by the hotel staff when I approached to their airport lounge outside from airport. When I reached to the hotel, again I was welcomed by the hotel staff and was escorted to my room immediately. The check-in procedures were completed efficiently at my hotel room without any hassle of waiting at the check-in reception of the hotel lobby. The entire stay was very pleasant. My colleague and I arranged daily transportation from hotel to office (and vice versa) and a delegated driver was assigned to us. The service of the driver was very good and he was there waiting for us every time when my colleague and I left office or hotel. The only feedback is the communication between front desk and housekeeping. I was working night shift and informed front desk that they could do the housekeep in the evening about 9pm, since I needed my sleep during the day. However, I was disturbed by a phone call from housekeeping unit in one of the days claiming that they were not manage to clean up my room for last 2 days. I was surprised to hear that, coz I was sure that there was housekeeping done every evening. I asked the lady to confirm with front desk since I had informed of the arrangement since day 1. Besides this small issue, I was happy to the service and willing to stay in the hotel during my next visit to Manila.

I know what you're asking yourself, "How can you give a Shangri-La less than 5 stars?" Simple...it's an outdated property. No doubt that their service is second to none and really their point of differentiation, but here are the reasons I gave this property 3 stars:

1) Decor - The carpets look worn, the furniture looks like they are from the 70's, and the fixtures must be the originals. Very disappointed in the look and feel.

2) Humidity - I had the AC on the entire time and the sheets and towels in the room were wet from the humidity. My colleagues room was so humidity that a bad musty smell forced him to switch rooms.

3) Technology - Every time I picked up the phone I got loud static and even when the phone was on the hook, I could hear a busy signal. I had to disconnect the phone to eliminate the sound. I also had issues connecting to the WiFi on one day. In addition, the iron in the room was so old that it didn't even have a reservoir for water to make steam.

4) Policies - I paid extra for the Horizon Level Club and was in a hurry one morning so I asked for an egg sandwich to-go. The young lady looked puzzled and went the manager who came over and said taking food out was discouraged. I honestly didn't have the energy to fight with them, but can't understand what the concern was eating on their floor or in my room/office.

To be fair, the rooms were large, the tv had a lot of channels to choose from, the service was outstanding and the location was quite convenient to my office and the greenbelt.

We were staying over night for a business appointment. It was and ok room but the walls are thin that you can hear the tv on the other side. The beds was ok. Breakfast was mediocre. I was a Bit confuse with the
elevator. And the front office is less attentive than I expected. Getting to the hotel is so hard. The one way system is so confusing.

Dear tourchwoodtours_12,

Thank you for the feedback. I have discussed your comments with my team, and we will ensure to improve on the points you mentioned. We also offer continental buffet breakfast at Sage Bespoke Grill on the second level as an alternative to our guests, but it would also help if you could specify what made the breakfast mediocre to your taste. All seven of our guest lifts are located near the Front Desk, while another guest lift for the lower lobby and basement parking is located behind the Concierge. As to the Makati road system, this is something that is unfortunately beyond the hotel’s jurisdiction, but is strictly put in place by the Makati City government to make sure that traffic congestion is well-maintained in Metro Manila’s busiest business district. I hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the hotel on your future business trips.

Sincerely,
