I know what you're asking yourself, "How can you give a Shangri-La less than 5 stars?" Simple...it's an outdated property. No doubt that their service is second to none and really their point of differentiation, but here are the reasons I gave this property 3 stars:
1) Decor - The carpets look worn, the furniture looks like they are from the 70's, and the fixtures must be the originals. Very disappointed in the look and feel.
2) Humidity - I had the AC on the entire time and the sheets and towels in the room were wet from the humidity. My colleagues room was so humidity that a bad musty smell forced him to switch rooms.
3) Technology - Every time I picked up the phone I got loud static and even when the phone was on the hook, I could hear a busy signal. I had to disconnect the phone to eliminate the sound. I also had issues connecting to the WiFi on one day. In addition, the iron in the room was so old that it didn't even have a reservoir for water to make steam.
4) Policies - I paid extra for the Horizon Level Club and was in a hurry one morning so I asked for an egg sandwich to-go. The young lady looked puzzled and went the manager who came over and said taking food out was discouraged. I honestly didn't have the energy to fight with them, but can't understand what the concern was eating on their floor or in my room/office.
To be fair, the rooms were large, the tv had a lot of channels to choose from, the service was outstanding and the location was quite convenient to my office and the greenbelt.
