Delicious Mexican food with a Columbian influence. Darkly lit, nice ambiance. Tables well spaced so that you can have conversations and not feel like you are on top of others. The nachos were delicious, and my chicken enchiladas with mole were terrific. Try the dessert...that's essentially a fruit pouch. New and different.More

I wanted to love this place because it's close to my home and always looks so charming. But, sorry to report, my meal was awful. The staff are very friendly and professional, the service was fast, and the prices are not high. But the quesadilla...I ordered was far and away the worst I have ever had. Ate less than half and took the rest home to throw away. The dining room is so dark it was hard for me to see what was wrong with it, but the answer was "everything". The tortilla itself was not cooked -- tasted like they just filled it raw and brought it out. The filling -- supposedly shrimp and cheese -- just tasted like unidentifiable goop. I would not go back.More

Fun atmosphere and amazing food, but the service was terrible. From the girl who answered the phone to our waiter, they all seemed annoyed to talk to you and serve you. Also, most of the menu items were chicken. If you were a beef eater...there weren’t many choices.More

They say some of the best things come in little packages and Gonza doesn't disappoint. There is no overwhelming amount of bland food served here, the properly proportioned entrees are so full of flavor, anything more would just be bloating and painful. I always look...forward to the house made salsa, it's a refreshing change from the standard bland mixture of preservatives and sodium out of a jar you find in most other Mexican restaurants. Take a chance on the house habanero sauce, its damn good and comes with a kick! Although I have not tried the Vegetariano option, I have been told by several very picky vegetarians that the variety of vegetables and how they are prepared outperforms any other Mexican restaurant out there. There is no overstuffing tortillas with onions, spinach and lettuce engulfed in cheap cheese at Gonza's. Barbacoa Quesadilla was the entree of the day with a side of their authentic rice, perfectly prepared! Gonza's impressive growth hasn't affected the attention to detail and focus on customer service, they immediately recovered from the mistake made on our order and ensured everything was right. Cheers!More

Quick summary: delish Mexican food of the Tex-Mex variety. Friendly, professional service. "Day of the Dead" mannequins decorate the place. Reasonable prices. We visited some friends in this area while on a road trip. they suggested this place as a good casual option. (It was...a busy weekend, with many colleges having their graduation ceremonies.) The menu has a wide variety of mostly Tex-Mex options, with mains generally priced in the $teens and accompanies by sides like rice/beans. Starters & apps are generally under $10 into the $teens. No beers on tap, but the Negro Modelo was $6, and a good pour of wine by the glass $8. Between my husband and i, and the other couple, we sampled a variety of dishes -- fajitas with chicken, Chile Relleno, and Flautas, all $15 for each main with the accompanying sides. We started by splitting the guac, and also enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Everything was very tasty and fresh-tasting. Friendly, professional service. The casual room of tables and booths has a of Day-of-the-Dead decor. While kind of fun, you decide if your young kiddo would have problems with that. Friendly, professional service throughout. So, we'd be happy to be back when next in the area, and wish a place like this was closer to where we live.More

We stopped here on the way to a Carolina Courage soccer match. The place is right at our Aloft hotel. Service was fast, friendly, and fun. The food was excellent! This isn’t low quality high volume fast food. When we asked for an extra plate...to share a meal. The server had the kitchen split the meal and serve on two plates! The mango habanero margarita was excellent too! We highly recommend this restaurant when you’re in town.More

The real selling point of Gonzo is the atmosphere with many mannequins starry light and other festive displays. The main dining room is pretty dark but cool due to all of the lighted stars. There are numerous dead displays best atmosphere in Raleigh maybe. However...the good is average and fairly expensive for what you get. Ordered vegetable tacos they give you 3 and they were very small and the vegetables were in such small pieces they didn't have much flavor. The refried beans were good. The chips and salsa were great some of the best salsa ever. Service was pretty straightforward. This is mainly worth a visit for the atmosphere food was pretty good but not greatMore

On their web site, I spent five minutes and then, in small print above the menu, a statement that on-line ordering is inoperative. Of course, if one tries to telephone, you can either carry out order by pressing "2" (which was never answered) or order...online.More

Love the atmosphere and food at Gonza's. For our couples lunch we sat outside under cover at a table for two where they greeted use quickly with chip's, salsa, and menu's. We've been here before and knew to order the Chicken Tinga Tacos (3) with...rice/beans and the Short Rib Tacos (3) with soup. It is fun to order tacos so you can share/trade one taco for your gf/spouse. They are great about providing more chips and salsa and refills on drinks, as needed. Definitely try one of their margaritas, they are delicious!More

It was during COVID-19 and at first I was reluctant to enter with all of those people. It seemed a little unsafe, but we were vaccinated so we decided to stay. After the meal we realized that a bunch of the tables had manakins and...were actually unoccupied. It was too funny - they were good manakins! Gonza has great Mexican fare, and it is has a better presentation than most Mexican restaurants. The people are friendly. It can be a little loud in there, and that's my reason for four stars. It gets a little hard to converse, and that's with the manikins. But overall, this is a great restaurant. I've been before and will go again.More

Food decent, service horrible, from start to finish bad service, bad time management, no sense of customer service. After explaining ourselves to someone other than our server she said he’s just bad and we all joke about it.

If your getting tired of that mediocre standard for Mexican restaurants, which at best tantalize your taste buds with an, "out of the box" flavor, you should visit Gonza's and experience delectable. The dimly lit dining room and colorful lights spread throughout, combined with the...psychedelic calavera decor, really makes for a unique dining experience. Opening at 5 pm, I recommend to get in early as the dining room will fill up within an hour, requiring you to have reservations. This is a neighborhood gem and quite popular with families. A booth along the wall is my preference, the table in the middle of the rear dining room is just a bit hectic, especially when the order carts are delivering entrees to your neighbors. Offering a very precise menu with some excellent and unique entrees, one of my favorites is the Mexican Flag. I decided to try the short rib tacos, as the ingredients intrigued me. Three soft shell tacos, served face up with a side of rice seemed to be an excellent choice. It was immediately apparent this rice was prepared fresh and very flavorful. The tacos were phenomenal, the flavor of each of the fresh ingredients, being very distinct and complimenting each other perfectly in the end. Gonza has taken the time to add quality to everything they do, they serve food by quality vs. quantity and maintain a high level of customer service always. Cheers!More
