Came across this name while searching on what to do in shenyang and happened to find out theres a branch at central st. So when we took a cab to central st, we asked to be stopped at laobian. It's a huge branch, multi storey...building. We arrived at 1pm but didnt have to queue. Menu is not that huge. We ordered their dumplings and others. Overall I think it taste ok but not that fantastic. Price is also on the high side, hence it's not quite value for money.More
service is quite nice, and the price is very reasonable , but may not so suitable for smaller eater especially alone, the portion is consider big vs the price. but if u alone, u can only order one dish...
Enjoyed this Dumpling Restaurant. The variety is great. Unfortunately the menu was not in english, but since we had a native speaker with us, ordering dumplings was easy. I will come back to this place. Simple and good food!
I took my Mom here during her visit last month. It's definitely a place to show off to folks travelling through the city. Their dumplings are fantastic. They are a little more expensive than your usual dumplings here, but worth it. Be prepared to order...by the pictures on the menu.More
We had a wonderful meal here. There were so many different varieties of dumplings and they were particularly tasty. I have never enjoyed dumplings so much. This establishment is obviously well known and very popular. There seemed to be a number of different rooms so...I don't know how many people they can cater for. Fortunately we had a Chinese guide and were booked in for the dinner.More
Best dumplings I ate in my life! There are many kinds of dumplings. There are many kinds of vegetarian ones too.
This restaurant is well known for its dumplings. 百年煸馅 Bai nian bian xian(the first one on their menu, CNY24 for 10 dumplings)and 冰花煎饺 bing hua jianjiao/snowflake dumplings (the second but last one, or the only fried dumplings, CNY 30 for 18 dumplings) are the most...popular ones.More
Laobian has been around for something like 180 years. The establishment is in a multi-story building that seems to contain several restaurants, with Laobian clearly being the most famous (and featured prominently on the front of the building). We were part of a larger group...of visitors and were taken there by our Chinese hosts, and therefore it is difficult to comment on whether normal foreign mortals could easily navigate the restaurant and its menu. Be that as it may, we were seated in a private room on the fifth floor and served several traditional Chinese dishes, along with a selection of 13 different dumplings. The non-dumpling items were fine, but the dumplings were clearly the star. Starting with the Angela Merkel dumpling (named in honor of the German prime minister who apparently ate there not long ago), and continuing on with various other varieties of dumpling (mushroom, pork, fennel, vegetable etc) we had a wonderful experience. There was one style that was baked, with the dumplings being slightly connected to each other - this made for a very nice presentation. Altogether, the dumplings were tender and flavorful. There was also cold beer, as well as chrysanthemum tea to complement the food. Laobian is within easy walking distance of Shenyang's forbidden city - a good way to combine sightseeing with lunch. Presumably reservations are a good way to go to avoid disappointment.More
OK, so this place seems to attract more visitors than locals but this was explained that locals tend to have their favourite dumpling place close to home. The restaurant is cavernous in appearance obviously to hold as many people as possible. The local dumplings were...great as were the other dishes we had. It's one of those places where you should visit as the food is very good and there is great history attached to the place.More
The Restaurant is a huge let down. Lonely planet speaks so good about it but the dumplings are all Steamed ones and not at all special in taste. You can get these at any normal Chinese restaurant in shenyang. The place as such is completely...run down, there are so many good and nice looking Chinese restaurants, why go to this one with overpriced dishes and horrible interior looks? A huge disappointment after all.More
We ordered a few traditional northern China dishes, none of them were disappointed. The original flavor dumpling were very delicious indeed! Great food, but I have to say the service were bad, not the best environment either! 包房里工作的女孩子们,面无表情,服务态度极其恶劣!
We came by here after the visit to the Shenyang Imperial Palace (about 15 minutes walk) because this was ranked #1 on Tripadvisor. However, I didn’t feel it was so fantastic that deserved a #1 rating. It’s probably a very touristy place for Westerners who...never tried dumplings before. I say this because the service staff on the 1st floor completely ignored our presence and only greeted the Westerner group behind us. We had to actually listen to their conversation to realise that the restaurant is on level 2. That aside, service staffs on Level 2 were pretty friendly. Price wise, we spent around RMB150 for two adults. We could order two portions of dumplings, one fried pig trotter, and half jug of soya bean milk. Not too sure what the gimmick is with this place to get #1 rating but I probably wouldn’t return, and wouldn’t even be coming here if not for the close proximity to the Imperial Palace.More
Its damn good! We tried the steam ones, panfried ones and spicy pork. The pork is so tender and not fatty. The dumplings were awesome!
Lao Bian Dumpling (老边餃子館) is popular Dumpling shop. There are s verbal chain shops at this area. I visited one chain shop in Department store near the Shenyang station. Tasty and reasonable.
