Brilliant Tasty well presented traditional food with some fascinating insights into recipes and ingredients from Chef who clearly loves what he does. Sadly because the restaurant is in the middle of the Souks you'll have to seek it out only at lunchtime (it's not open...in the evening) but please do make time to have a lengthy lunch and conversation about your food. We opted for meat and fish dishes - but veggies would find plenty to fill their plates here. The Medina can be a bit of a challenge to navigate - but Dar Slah is reasonably easy to find - from Place de la Victoire take the Rue de la Kasbah (immediately adjacent to the Royal Victoria Hotel) and walk for a few minutes - don't be distracted by side streets. Dar Slah is on the right hand side if you get blocked by school kids queuing up for fast food at one of the numerous street food stalls then Dar Slah is the yellow door on your right.More

Why is someone travelling from the US or Italy etc. and looking for hamburger or pasta in Tunis is beyond me. I chose this restaurant which serves Tunisian cuisine. I picked the Menu de la Mar seafood which included first an appetizer of a small...grilled fish, and a couple of mashed vegetables. As I am not familiar with Tunisian cuisine I could only guess that one is the mashed carrots omek houria, and the other mashed grilled vegetables, a Mechouia salad. There was also an "eggroll' which I suspected was Fatima's Fingers "Doigts de Fatima” stuffed with cheese. Also there was a falafel-like ball (not shown in the photo) which I was told, was made from carrots. The main dish is a very nicely baked, tender white fish in a plate of roasted vegetables (potatoes, onions, tomatoes, green pepper) because I opted not to have couscous for accompaniment. For dessert I picked the Assida Zgougou. Zgougou is the Aleppo (?) pine seeds mashed up with sugar and cream and cooked to a brownish colour. Then a layer of custard (egg, sugar and milk) and topped with nuts. Some recipes use dried fruits for the topping but here they used roasted, chopped almond. All in all a very satifying dinner. With a large bottle of mineral water and Turkish coffee the bill came up to be about 45 dinars. The only suggestions I have for the restaurant, is to add some descriptions to the menu. This can also educate people who are not familiar with Tunisian cuisine, on what they are eating - instead of saying "menu de la mar'. Service was attentive and efficient.More

A hearty meal of tuna couscous in a clean, pleasant location in the Medina. The owner spoke to excellent English and French and even gave a helpful lesson on the Tunisian coins. Recommend without reservation.

I came here on the recommendation of other people in the guest house I was staying with and was not disappointed! The staff made me feel very comfortable, even though I was alone. Its a set menu but they happily changed things slightly for me...- my fish and couscous was lovely - the fish was so soft. To be honest the amount you get for a starter is enough to fill most people though. A good, friendly, safe and quick bet if you're in the Souk!More

Loved this restaurant. So wished it was open in the evening. It closes by around 3:00. We ate here twice during our short stay in Tunis. It’s food is creative and uses seasonal ingredients to their best advantage. The owner - whose brother owns Chez...Slah - is friendly, open and engaging. Undoubtedly, these were the best meals we had in Tunis. Sorry, Chez Slah does not compare to Dar Slah. We tried both, and hands down Dar Slah was the clear winner. Truly a dining experience.More

Had the pleasure of eating in this restaurant a few days ago. It was the best meal had during travels in Tunisia. The owner and staff were friendly and we learnt about local food and ingredients. Would highly recommend.

If you are interested in real authentic food in the old city better you book in advance. I was invited by a friend who knows the owner and believe it or not so many people walked in and could not have a table. Very nice...place, great food and welcoming staff that smiles all the time. Reasonable food in the market place. The entries were nice and ton fish good as major dish. The fact that one needs to get a menu and can’t order a la carte can be improved.

We went in with no expectation, and were surprised by the quality of food as well as service. Being in Tunisia where food is most often delicious but service may not necessarily be up to par, this is a great place that exceeded on both...side. Very friendly waiter, great atmosphere and delicious authentic Tunisian food. We chose different items on the main course then shared, so it was great to taste multiple main course dishes and all were delicious. Definitely will be back And price is extremely affordable by EU or North American standard.More

We ate here for late lunch and it was a great choice. The meal came with a soup and appetizers, including brik, and then a terrific choice of main courses, and dessert. The service was excellent and the atmosphere very homey and casual/nice. We wished...we had found the place earlier in our stay. For our excellent meal we paid just over 20 Euro for two. Highly recommended.More

Dar Slah is a really charming little restaurant with typical genuine Tunisian food and rapid and efficient service. It is in the old city heart, in the souks, not far from the prime minister offices. His owner is a dedicated restaurant manager with a long...experience and more over a passion and love for his role. He daily goes to the market in order to chose himself the premium and highly fresh quality ingrédients and then prepare the menu for his customers.More
