We were staying at the hotel which was very comfortable and booked a meal at the highly rated restaurant Bloody Mary’s! We were kept waiting for ages before being shown to a table… one person dealing with bills and greeting people! Initial waitress very friendly...and helpful and took our drinks order. Eventually the restaurant manager came to take our order. We were persuaded against our better judgement to have a starter as there was a delay in the kitchen. This eventually arrived and was pretty disappointing. After another long wait and after me complaining to the manager our mains arrived. My husband’s meal was ok but my steak was cooked as requested but cold! I sent it back and my husband continued with his meal. Instead of cooking me a new steak my original one was reheated. By the time it arrived I was past eating it really. After making the excuse that the kitchen was swamped numerous times, which really wasn’t my problem, the manager made an adjustment to the bill but almost reluctantly. Really disappointed with the service and the reluctance to accept responsibility for it. Top prices poor service and quality. Surviving on a past reputation!More
Thank you for your feedback, Cath! We appreciate your compliments on the comfort of our hotel and the initial friendliness of our staff. However, we're truly sorry to hear about the challenges you faced at Bloody Mary's. Rest assured, we take your comments seriously and...More
Lovely restaurant with all different areas, the whisky lounge is a delight, would have loved to spend an evening in there, but with cocktails and gin Attentive and friendly staff, great service. Food was outstanding, Cocktail French 75 was divine.
Great ambiance and service. The rib eye and accompanying sauce was great. The truffle mashed potatoes were on point. The salmon was perfectly cooked and balanced with the acidity of the slaw.
Our experience at Bloody Mary restaurant was delightful. The chateaubriand was cooked to perfection, and the service from the attentive staff was excellent. While the prices were on the higher side, the quality of the meal and service nearly justified it. However, it's worth noting...that visitors having to pay $6 an hour for parking to dine there felt a bit excessive. Overall, a great culinary experience .More
Lovely meal and service but this was spoilt by the costs we incurred whilst dining there. We were not advised that the cost of still water for us was $24.00 and we were told that parking at the Ridges (where the Restaurant is located) would...be $6.00 an hour, we were charged $28.00 for being there for just over an hour, felt totally ripped off!! Be warned, this place is very expensive and their menu is not the same as online.More
This place has supposedly good ratings and high pricing to believe that the service, food and wine would be at least good. None was so. Starting with the wine, we ordered a bottle of Black Estate Sauvignon Blanc, which has to be their best Blanc....The waitress opened the bottle and did not even offer to try, just poured the wine into the glasses. Not expecting bad wine at such place we did not object. However, the taste of the wine turned out to be strange and the color was not transparent at all. The wine was spoiled. The waitress acknowledged it at the end and said ok. No refund, no apologies. It was the worst service during our 10 days in NZ. The food (ribeye and waguy) was overdone. We ordered medium rare and it was not medium rare at all, completely overcooked. Besides, it was salty. For the steak house, which specializes in meat, this is just a complete failure. The sides were bad as well. The only good and tasty dish turned out to be tuna crudo though it had only 3 smallish rings of tuna. Overall, 300+ NZD for a disastrous service and meat and spoiled wine. Worst experience in NZ.More
Hi mkromvelel, We're truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at our restaurant. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we sincerely apologize for falling short of your expectations. We will address the issues you've raised with our team to ensure improvements are...More
wine was spoiled, meat was overcooked, the wagyu was not Japanese wagyu actually When we said to a waiter about the wine, she agreed and that’s it.
We had the most incredible dinner at Bloody Mary's. We were on our honeymoon and it was also my wife's birthday and the staff went out of their way to make our meal as enjoyable as possible. The steaks were utterly heavenly and the portions...very generous. The cocktails were also brilliant - highly recommended!More
As we stayed in the Rydges hotel, Bloody Mary's was an easy choice for our last night in Christchurch. Having had breakfasts at their bar, we knew that they used excellent ingredients to prepare their meals. The tartar and the spicy cauliflower were both very...tasty and we had caramelised carrots and cauliflower cheese as side dishes. Their loaf of freshly baked bread is divine! It is truly a loaf of bread you get, with garlic butter and olive oil. The service was very good ! Kudos to the newbie who started her job there 3 weeks ago. She is doing extremely well! (sorry, but I can't remember your name.) I certainly recommend Bloody Mary's for brekkie, lunch or dinner when you visit Christchurch.More
great place to dine, great food with the ability to choose sauces etc. wonderful place for a special night. Was disappointed that the children's dessert was half the price of the adults, but very minimal, it could have been larger. Being told beforehand that we...could not spilt the bill at the end of the night would have saved a lot of adding and financial calculations at the end of an otherwise great night. Serving staff were very attentive and friendly.More
Food was great, although overpriced. The recent implementation of charging for car parking for restaurant clientele is nothing less than terrible. The staff can’t explain where the large amount of personal information goes or is stored. You need to enter all this after scanning a...QR code just to get you car out of the park. They’d be better off putting a sign up saying “Locals not wanted”. On top of that I was charged for 22 hours of parking for my sub 2 hour stay. Terrible experience even though the food was good. Never again!!!! Too much greed. They should make car parking free for people who are only attending the restaurant.More
Food was excellent, if a little overpriced, but our experience was tainted by the superior and condescending attitude of the staff. Waiters are not prepared to split the bill across a group and the venue charges $6 an hour for patron parking, no concesssions.
I am sorry I ever went to this restaurant. We came with part of an adventure travel group OAT who was staying at the hotel too. The number one thing that made us very disappointed is they would only split our check 4 ways and...only evenly. One of the 4 ways was a single. The rest of the group drank several drinks and bought a much more expensive dinner than we did and we ended up having to make it fair to the single, but no one made it fair to us. All they would have had to do is let us tell them what we ate and drank and ring it up. The rest of out group went to another BETTER place and that place rang things up at the register fairly. I plan to review this restaurant to my travel group and tell them not to go here, as we went here because someone at OAT said it was good. It also took forever to get our order taken. We asked the waiter - an Italian guy questions and were all ready to order and he took off. We waited and waited and finally had to ask for him. I ordered my steak cooked med well and it was medium - also there was nothing special about the meal at all. Completely disappointed in a place that will not divide checks. We also told our guide from OAT and told him not to recommend the place to other OAT travelers.More
The restaurant is part of Rydges, but it actually doesn’t feel like a hotel restaurant and bar. The decor is exceptional, and feels like an old English whiskey bar. It’s not far from the centre of Christchurch and we walked there from Cathedral Junction….just a...couple of blocks. The staff were really friendly and attentive. I had the rack of lamb which was amazing, as was the truffle mash that came with it. Didn’t need a sauce. My husband had the slow cooked rib fillet which was cooked perfectly, and came with potato gratin and broccoli…..he had been waiting for a great steak and finally had one (even though we’d had ‘good’ ones here too).More
