We were very excited about visiting Sake Brisbane. We love Japanese food and Sake was well reviewed. We were disappointed. As a special treat we both ordered #9 Wagyu strip loin. At $110 each we were expecting something special as you see on YouTube of...top quality Wagyu being cooked in Japan. We were very disappointed. The steak was cooked medium rare with the thinner ends, well done. We expected (hoped) for rare to raw which I would have thought was the default for top quality steak. Another aspect of the experience perplexed us. The wait staff protocols were dysfunctional. We were served initially by a person who did menus and initial drinks. Then our order was completed by another but she didn’t do drinks, only food. We ordered additional drinks from a third person who forgot our order so we had to re-order with a fourth person. Weird. To add insult to injury the bill automatically included a service charge! The total bill came to just under $400 for 2 people which is not acceptable for a below par experience.More

My sister and I dined at this delightful restaurant and loved every morsel of our lunch. Delicate flavors and a good variety of fish dishes made the dining experience very memorable. We are not experts on Japanese food but thought the range was superb.

Sake was on my 'to try' list for years and we finally got there for my birthday. The menu looked great so we ordered a number of dishes - sushi (nigiri) plate, edamame, karaage bao, popcorn shrimp, nasu dengaku, wagyu gyoza, king salmon and brussels...sprouts. My husband also pre-ordered the dragon egg dessert. Overall for price ($220 including one drink each), it really missed the mark. The best menu items we had were the nasu dengaku and brussels sprouts. The nigri rice was too warm so it fell apart, the edamame was frozen and floppy, karaage bao had an overpowering sauce and not chewy (not crispy) chicken. Popcorn shrimp was smothered in a sauce, making it soggy, gyoza had a questionable sauce that didnt match the flavaour profile, salmon was smothered in a sauce/butter that wasnt great. The dragon egg was a strange mix of flavours. Overall, I am glad I went to tick it off my list, but with so many misses I really couldnt recommend a visit. Service by our waitress was friendly and great - she was the star of the whole experience.More

Have been to sake in Sydney many years ago, thought we would give the Brisbane one a go. The food was nice but it is way overpriced for what it is. Don’t like how they use the blow torch on the sushi, it smells and...wrecks the flavour. The wagyu steak was the nicest but for $60 for about 8 small pieces it’s not worth it. I love prawn dumplings but the weird texture on theirs I didn’t like. Service was excellent, wine and as beautiful but to leave after paying $200 still very hungry is not great.More

The most delicious Japanese Brisbane experience- perfect for if you’ve been travelling for a while & want delicious, healthy meal. Ask for a kitchen counter bench- My husband & I have been travelling all over Australia for weeks so being able to sit up close...to the kitchen is pure theatre. Love watching the happy, absorbed chefs cook these amazing meals is a revelation. Even the house salad is a revelation- crisp kale over lettuce. The gyoza is sublime. We’ve come here 2 nights in a row. Highly recommendMore

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Sake. We went for the New Classics set menu for $99. The food was sublime. We particularly enjoyed the ceviche taco and the steamed dumpling, though the roast lamb was also delicious. Our waitress suggested we try the fresh...oysters and wow we were glad she did, they were splendid and we wished we had ordered more. We’d love to give a 5 star rating but our experience was diminished by the substandard drinks service. We ordered glasses of prosecco when we placed our food order. These however had still not arrived when we had the oysters, kingfish and taco already delivered and in front of us! We should not have had to chase them up. Sadly this was the trend throughout the meal with our constantly having to ask passing staff to top up our water and too long a gap between ordering glasses of wine and their delivery. If you are going to offer wine-by-the glass the service needs to be prompt. We were also amazed at the huge list of differing payment ‘charges’ on the menu. And intrigued re the variances, particularly between EFTPOS and debit cards. Neither our waitress nor the manager were able to explain!More

My husband and I dined at Sake Bar with our niece (10) and nephew (13). The kids have good table manners but dining at a sophisticated Japanese restaurant as a family was an adventure for all of us. The staff were fantastic with helping us...to handle the kids. Menus were explained, special kids sushi roll was offered and dropped chopsticks were swiftly replaced. There was even a staff member who monitored the toilets for us to ensure hygiene. The food was delicious. We went with the normal menu even though the kids looked dubious. When the food was dropped onto the table, it looked so good that the kids actually asked to try new dishes and loved the meals. I have been to Japan so I gave them a brief overview of the country and told a few funny stories from my travels. They loved hearing about samurai (assassins!) My husband and I felt like this was a unique learning experience for the kids. The final bravo was dessert. Our nephew ordered a chocolate “dragon egg” that sat on smoking dry ice. The waitstaff made a big production of pouring hot caramel over the egg so that the chocolate egg partially melted and appeared to be hatching. This was very exciting for all of us! Thanks so much to Sake Bar for a great evening! (And just to be clear - this is not a family style restaurant. I think our booking only worked because our niece and nephew were trying their hardest to be on their best behaviour and we kept an eye out to ensure that other diners were not disturbed.)More

Outstanding evening meal and friendly and efficient service on holiday in Brisbane. The prawn dumplings are the absolute best we have ever had and the 'dragons egg' desert was a real highlight!

One of the best Japanese restaurants my husband and I have been to. We came here for dinner and ordered a little bit of everything and it all tasted so delicious and was plated up so well. The sushi rolls were incredible! It is a...little bit pricey but worth every cent. Will definitely be back. Next time I will request a window seat because the view is also spectacular!More

This isn't really a child friendly restaurant no specific selection for kids meals . You have to guess how the meals will come and they may or may not like it. This is potentially so people don't bring children & when asking if they do...a simple tuna sushi for kids I was advised yes and I then said with mayo and they responded no. So ok that would be OK but big chunks of raw sashimi tuna arrived which my kids won't touch. $11 for 1 ltr of mineral water if I new tap water was free pretty sure I would have gone for that . The mains were lovely however pork belly 39 for what was recieved .. very over priced . I felt the menu was ok but not overly exciting and doesn't have me wanting to go back to try again . Service though outstanding lovely ladies front of house 10/10. 2 kids 2 adults $250 for this spend it was sadly a let down.More

We ordered the Banquet for 2 people and were not disappointed. The food kept coming and was so delicious. I would recommend ordering the chef’s banquet if you can, as we were able to taste food that we wouldn’t normally order from the menu.
