We loved this place. We have been twice, and both times it did not disappoint. Overall we went to a few high end restaurants including Florilege, Narisawa, RyuGin, and Takazawa. We loved Takazawa. The creativity and flavors of Takazawa are incredible, although Narisawa comes close...second. The space is so intimate and unique that we would choose this over the white-tablecloth setting at Narisawa. Akiko, the chef's wife is so sweet too. The wine pairing is incredible as well. Overall, amazing experience.More

Put simply, it is one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Takazawa is an artist, his passion shines through in every intimate detail. His wife was the Maitre D and she was also impeccable in her service. Yes,...it was extremely expensive (especially with the amazing wine pairing) but it was worth the experience. There were only 2 tables of 6 in the restaurant, how intimate it was. And we we rushed through so that they could seat more people, it was a long slow dining extravaganza, a feast for every sense. I would give it 6 stars if i could! Thank you, thank you, thank you.More

I came here almost 5 years ago but they treated us like we were there just yesterday. The service is impeccable, the food is sublime and anyone writing reviews criticising the food must be crazy. Sorry but it is sublime. It is expensive: very but...it is a restaurant that seats 10 people only and serves each person individually with the chef coming to the table to cook and dress various courses. The wines are expensive too..it is Japan, wine is expensive. Get over it or don't and choose some lovely local food that is not ever going to be as amazing, or such an experience but if fine dining and attention to detail don't matter to you then you don't need a place like this and you probably don't want to pay for it. I am not trying to criticise anyone, I have just read some reviews that are very unfair. This is a place to go for a treat, a memorable occasion, like our honeymoon. I think the food is brilliant, every dish is presented in a unique manner down to the hand designed plates, cutlery and glassware. The emphasis is on the experience and the flavours. Akiko is a wonderful hostess, fun and knowledgeable and Takazawa is a lovely, quiet man.More

We had the full course plus wine but were bitterly disappointed. The food was average the wine cheap and plain. Only the ice cream at the end was of any culinary value. Avoid at any cost.

I have been in love with this restaurant for years ! It’s been impossible to return in the last few years as ever time I get back to Tokyo they are fully booked! Well to my delight Akiko-san (wife of Takazawa and manager of the...restaurant) managed to accommodate me. And wow! It is even better than I remember. The creativity married with the use of the finest ingredients- what an amazing treat. The service is exemplary- on point and not obtrusive at all. I just love, love this place! If you can’t get into the “mother” restaurant - try the more relaxed concept he has next door - Takazawa Bar. Again fabulous albeit much simpler food but really well worth trying! I went there on another evening to try it and I must saw bravo!More

This is the one restaurant I wanted to visit on this trip and I’m so lucky to have secured a reservation. On tonight’s service there were only six covers so from the moment you arrive up the stairs into the intimate restaurant it is really...akin to Chef Takazawa cooking for you personally in his home. He is assisted by his chefs and his wife perfectly and passionately attends to the diners front of house. They make a fantastic team which showcase the skill in cooking perfectly. We were served a multi course tasting menu where nearly every course stood out in its own way. Without going through every course some stand outs were scallop and sea urchin “spaghetti”, mini eels on brioche, milk fed lamb and chef Takazawa’s take on a spring roll might be in my top ten dishes ever eaten. A special not on the wine which in this meal was paired perfectly. From the perfect service on arrival, wonderful food and drink to chef personally thanking you outside at the end I couldn’t really fault it. I do hope I visit again next time I’m in Tokyo.More

This place is very small with only a few tables giving a cozy atmosphere. They were on the Best 50 restaurants in Asia guide last year but I noticed they dropped out of it. Having been to many top restaurants, I have a clue why....Even though we appreciated the food, there were a couple of things that should have been better when you pay 1000 USD for the menu and a good wine for two persons. The food consistently lacks a bit of salt and spices. I guess it is the idea to have the natural touch but would be nicer with more spices. The wine list is good but there are no medium priced wines, only expensive ones above 120 dollars. Still, if you don't mind the hefty bill, it is worth a visit since most of the dishes are really creative.More

The concept of having just 4 tables is very interesting. It creates a private setting. Chef takazawa cooks many things on his raised kitchen island in front of the guests reminiscent of a world class dj spinning in front of the crowd. I'll start with...the bad... The fan doesn't suck up the smell enough. So within an hour into the meal, the whole dining area is full of smoke and other smells. Smoke from the burning charcoal, smoke from the machine used to create smoke, smoke from the branches he burns and general smoke from the teppanyaki. I am addressing this because if you come to the restaurant, you will need to send all of your clothes to laundry right after and ladies will need to redo their hair. Both of which cost a fortune in tokyo for tourists. More of the bad... Only a handful of sake options, least expensive of which still runs 300 dollars for the bottle! Totally crazy. More of the bad, many of the dishes have flavors that just don't combine well. Truffle use is unnecessary (even if in season in Europe). His clientele is international and not local meaning they have access to truffle everywhere else outside of Japan don't want their menu money going towards such an expensive ingredient which isn't even local. The bread with the pork pate should be taken off the menu entirely. It is a waste of stomach space for something that tastes so average... The gazpacho should also be taken off the menu. It is very average as well and everyone living outside of japan has had the opportunity to eat gazpacho hundreds of times before. His is not any better. Some of the good... the hokkaido mozzarella with olive oil, it's extremely simple but the hokkaido mozzarella is very special and the olive oil as well. 2 terroir ingredients which are a joy to try. The "dinner in the forest" very amazing plated with many different simple japanese ingredients. The only thing I would change is the selection of wagyu cut. He chose a chewy and too fatty cut. He should consider sanuki (olive fed wagyu) and use the tenderloin portion. The black caviar ice cream with truffle (here is one place where the truffle pairing was perfect). It's simply amazing. So simple but so special. The presentation of all dishes is beautiful. True work of art. Modern kaiseki style. It feels like being at a modern kikunoi in kyoto. All in all, I think the chef is still young and will improve a lot in the decades to come. I would like to try him again in 10 years. Overall a good experience, but considering the price we only expect the best and this was not the best.More

Chef Takazawa and his wonderful wife receive you in this small but beautiful space where all focus is on the culinary experience. And wow - what an experience - I have tried some and this is at the top. Perfection in all detail and new...experimenting flavours and textures , and sublime combinations. Rich and beautiful ingredients. And a sommelier who will take you through the very extensive winelist with ease (they keep two of every bottle at the venue and have a cellar elsewhere for the rest he told me). Expensive for sure - but the experience is unique. The lack of 3 michelin stars here is glaring - It is right up there with the best in the world.More

Young Chef Takazawa is making deserved waves in the media. The experience of the service is more Japanese than the meal itself. (Small number of tables, but spaced with luxury). What I can say about my experience in Japan is - the food culture is...different: Chef's want to cook for a repeat clientele who are foodies. Because of this, it's harder for someone without an introduction to get a reservation. These smaller establishments pride themselves on the using the best ingredients, therefor the price of the products purchased are a higher level and more expensive. All this to say! Is that Chef Takazawa has an arsenal of flavor combinations that are delicious. His presentation is poetic and often with humor - creativity that is both edible as well as visual. I would recommend his restaurant if you are not looking for a Japanese Traditional meal - but one with defined signature. I appreciate TripAdvisor as I have had conversations with Japanese Chefs who have pulled out of Michelin because -food is reverence- not hype or trend. They want to know who's in their house and welcome them back as often as possible.More

My gorgeous wife called it four courses into the nine course degustation. It is not a title she would bandy about lightly, and six months later she stands by her judgment. This was, and remains, she says, the single best meal she's ever had. Me...too. We've both had some decent meals in Japan and other places before and since: Motoyoshi Tempura is sensational. Joel Robuchon, Tofuya Ukai, the kaiseki lunch at the Abudai Bekkan (if you're ever lucky enough to get there) - all fantastic. But there was something about the whole package at Takazawa: the personal service from Akiko and Chef Takizawa, and the tiny restaurant's intimate atmosphere, the creativity that goes into the dishes, the attention to detail and sheer hard work, the flavours, and the visual feast. It is an awesome combination, and it was hard to disagree when my bride made her pronouncement. I reckon the great strength of TripAdvisor is that -almost without exception - those attractions that consistently rate highly with a large sample group over many years turn out to be excellent. Takazawa is a classic example. It's absolutely no mistake that this restaurant has a certificate of excellence; that it has been rated one of the best restaurants in Asia and the world. It's a truly class act. Of course, it is not cheap, and unless you're seriously cashed-up, it's probably best reserved as a special treat. But, if you can get a reservation, and put off the kids' school fees for a month, you're very unlikely to be disappointed. Strongly, highly, recommended.More

I read about this restaurant prior to getting to Tokyo and, after reading about so many people who had not been able to get a reservation, I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to land one. I was even more pleasantly surprised at the...speed of response to my emails! The restaurant is very small (I think there were only about four tables of varying sizes). and the lighting quite low. We were greeted by the chef's wife who settled us in and made us feel at home. There began a flow of creative concoctions! We went for the seven course menu and were extremely impressed. This is food art at its best with my most notable being the dishes that was staged like a village with a volcano and another that looked like the breakfast of champions: cornflakes and milk! Just for the art alone I will give 5 stars but these were all delivered with awesome taste. Beware that it's quite price though but, if you can afford it, it is an experience to remember! Please note: My visit was before September 2015 but, for some strange reason, tripadvisor restricts the choice of dates.More
