The location (right on the beach), the lovely pool and property are truly idyllic. During the day it felt like a slice of paradise. But, at night, the resort next door plays such loud music (until midnight), followed by ongoing revelry on the beach and the road directly next to the beach bungalows that it is literally impossible to sleep. It feels like a party in your room! After consecutive nights we couldn’t handle it anymore and had to depart early. I realize this isn’t the fault of the surf house but perhaps more transparency around the night time noise to potential guests would be fair.

Awesome place right on the beach with waves perfect for learning how to surf, lovely room with private bathroom, food at restaurant was delicious. The only downside was the noise from neighbouring hotels, but we knew about that and that this was not fault of this hotel. And as a bonus they have the loveliest black cat called Batman :)

The restaurant is open for everybody. But if you’re not a guest the service is really bad. They won’t provide the WiFi password if you don’t stay at the hotel. If you order food you have to order at the kitchen, then walk to the reception (if there is somebody), pay first and take your own drinks. Bad customer service if you’re not a hotel guest!!

It‘s really not worth going here, we had an overpriced breakfast, staff refused to share the wifi with us, coffee was a joke and There was only powdered milk availble. We couldnt sit under a cabaña even though Nobody was staying in it. a Better go somewhere else, I felt really unwelcome.

Took like forever to bring the food. More than a hour waiting. Bad service overall. Ordered shrimp tacos. Very simple. Not worthy. Besides ordered a Michelada, they brought it like 30 minutes later. Really disappointed.

Although the location is great, here are several reasons why you SHOULD NOT stay at Paredon surf house: - the surf equipment is really old / bad quality (they overcharged me for a broken fin even though it broke due to its bad condition and was clearly not my fault) - No room service (until asked for) - Stains on the bed sheets (for the rates they charge, I would have expected at least clean sheets in a private cabin) - The food is mediocre / not great (but prices on the expensive end) - We had one friend coming over who stayed at a different place and the staff was overly strict with him staying in common areas - The staff is really unfriendly (especially the manager is unreasonable when confronted with any of the above issues)

Response from Hotel Paredon Surf House Escuintla, Owner at Paredon Surf House
Responded Jan 7, 2023
Dear Sophia, Thank you for staying at the Surf House and thank you for your feedback. We appreciate all feedback as it helps us to improve. We're sorry that we did not live up to your expectations on your recent visit and we hate to hear of any guest leaving unhappy! We actually invest quite a lot in our surf equipment and are known to have the best surfboards in town. Unfortunately surfboards are fragile by nature and even brand new equipment can break when using it in the surf. We understand that it's upsetting when that happens. In the rental agreement we make it clear that the charge for broken fins is $35 and I understand we only charged you $25 on this occasion to help out. Thank you for pointing out that we do not have room service. We've never aspired to be like a mainstream hotel, and the vibe is much more informal and laid back. El Paredon in general has a very chill atmosphere and that's what draws most visitors. It's true that our hangout spaces are exclusive to Surf House guests, so we did unfortunately have to ask your friends staying in a nearby hostel not to come and hang out. This may seem like a strict policy, but it's for the benefit of all our guests. In the old days we would let anyone hang out and even sold day passes, and there were so many people using up the common spaces that it was unfair to our overnight guests. If you enjoyed the peaceful and quiet vibes of the Surf House at all then you also benefitted from that policy. We hope you'll consider giving us another try on a future occasion. ~ Surf House Team

I recently stayed at the Paredon Surf House with a group of friends (4 of us total) for a surf trip and we had such an amazing time. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff and were given a great tour of the property. The hotel was well maintained, with staff making sure it was beautiful everyday! The kitchen staff were amazing and the food was incredible! There’s something for everyone. Again, we went for surfing and caught some really fun waves with no one in the water but a few locals, who shred! All in all, Paredon Surf House should be you next destination for a tropical and secret getaway! Staff was amazing, management was on top of their stuff everyday, and the beautiful weather and beach was an added bonus! P.S. we went for surfing but got caught in some strong currents. So beware of the current and wave size and KNOW YOUR LIMITS! We still had a blast regardless! Also, BRING YOUR BUG SPRAY! 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

My wallet was stolen within 12 hours of arriving. There is little to no security, including no locking doors to the rooms, and lots of foot traffic being right on the beach. The restaurant is open to all, and so are your things! It sucks, but honestly the part that was truly salt in the would was how the staff and owners handled the situation. They were truly unpleasant and unhelpful. If they had had their way I would've rotted on the beach with no way back to town. All they had to do was point me in the direction of a shuttle that would accept my emergency credit card, but they basically told me to eff off. It's a nice looking place, but after spending 4 days there feeling like an absolute prisoner, I would try and get in at La Guava, Swell, Cocori, or Mellow. And if they're booked try going to Monterrico, avoid these folks at all costs!

Response from Hotel Paredon Surf House Escuintla, Owner at Paredon Surf House
Responded Jan 7, 2023
Hi Morgan, We're sorry you feel like we ruined your vacation. To be honest we're a little confused by your review because our night security guard found your wallet on the path to the bathrooms that same night, handed it in to reception, and we returned it to you the next morning will all the original contents still inside. As you mentioned you ended up staying 4 days with us. In your review you also failed to mention that you tried to leave without paying your bill, and that we had to stop the shuttle bus to ask you to pay. Even though our female-only dorm is very secure and we cannot remember ever having an incident of theft, you should never assume that any dorm is going to be a secure place to leave valuables. Your wallet was found in the end, thankfully, but even if it had been stolen there's a chance that another traveler with access to the dorm could have taken it. For that reason we always recommend using the lock boxes that are attached to each dorm bed. ~Surf House Team

We stayed at surf house for two nights, Mar 7 & 8. We came back to the hotel about 9pm on Mar 8 and it was dark, gate was locked, and night-time guard let us in. There is a pool and another little rectangle in the ground about 1 X 2 feet along the path. The pool is well lite. The dipping pool for the feet is not at all well lite and is rather dark. As we walked in, my partner did not see the little pool for dipping feet, stepped in and fell, hurting her arm. The night time guard ran to her and helped her up. She went and asked for ice and was given a bag of ice to help with swelling. My friend who tripped in the darkness is in her mid-70s. The following day my friend went to talk to the lady in charge at that time of day and suggested that a light be put in so this kind of problem could be avoided in the future. The lady told my friend that if these facilities do not match your needs you should go elsewhere. I often had trouble walking by the little dipping pool in the darkness. One has to always pay very careful attention to where one steps since it is very easy to step in little pool. Our room was in a elevated structure near that foot dipping pool and we always avoided it in daylight. The response of the host is not what one should expect from a person with so much responsibility.

I highly recommend Paredon Surf House. The accommodations are varied, something for almost every taste. We stayed in one of the two suites that they have. A palapa style room with a small porch, one large main room, and a very nice bathroom. There are also 4 elevated palapas that directly face the beach, but they share bathrooms that are located near the back of the property. Then there are two larger casitas that are nice, with a larger sea view bedroom upstairs and bathroom down. Also a dormitory for women only. A couple of nice amenities. All the coffee you want in the morning supplied in a large urn. Also filtered water, though best to have your own receptacle. The restaurant is good, though we tried others as well. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Honor system on all beverages. There was a mix of older (us) and younger people there and the atmosphere is tranquil. The ocean sound is constant, and just outside. Not an exceedingly cheap stay, but a good value for what you get.
