Words can't really sum up the friendly and genuine welcome and service we received fro Dionisos and Irene. We arrived late at night and were welcomed with a drink in the bar and shown to our room. There were yoghurts, water, fresh fruit, home made olive oil and a bottle of wine waiting. We had room 31 on the top floor, which had a large balcony with views of the town, sea and mountains. The room was a studio with 2 single beds, plenty of space for clothes storage, fridge, two rings, kettle and adequate crockery, pans and cutlery. The air con and in room safe were free of charge. The bathroom was an adequate size, with the typical greek shower tray and curtain. The room was kept spotlessly clean with towels and linen changed every other day. There is a small swimming pool, and as we were there in October, we had the pool to ourselves. Drinks and snacks are available at the pool but I doubt that Irene and Dionisos ever make any profit on these as most days they gave us complementary drinks and cake. We go to Crete every October and always stay in family run apartments, and have always found the Cretan people to be wonderfully friendly and interesting. Irene and Dionisios took this to an extra level, they are the most lovely, friendly, genuine, humble people we have ever met. They always engaged us in conversation but were never intrusive. It was my birthday while we there and Dionisos had noticed this from my passport. When we returned to our room there was a birthday cake, flowers from the garden, and a birthday cake with candle in the fride, and Irene even apologised for going into our fridge! Irene told us about the Saints day in the town and we watched the procession and joined in the celebrations at the beach cafes which was a lovely experience. Agia Pelagia is a small resort, and the beach, where most of the bars and restaurants are found, is about a seven minute walk. There is a supermarket about five mins from the studios, and a couple more down towards the beach, and several tourist shops, a pharmacy and ATMs. There is also a service bus to Heraklion that runs several times a day. We tried several restaurants and didn't have a bad meal, our favourite was Acropolis where we ate 3 times. Some of the restaurants and bars were starting to close when we were there but there were still at least 7 restaurants and 4 bars open when we left on 17 October. On leaving Irene and Dionisos gave us both a gift and more of their lovely olive oil. I mentioned that we had been married 4 weeks previously and Irene was disappointed that we hadn't told her because she said we would have had a big party. That was a lovely thought but we didn't need a party to feel like part of the family. For the price charged for the rooms the value for money was excellent. If you love traditional Greek accomodation, traditional Greek hospitality and want to feel like one of the family then book Creta Sun. Thank you so much Irene and Dionisos and love and luck to you and your family.…
