The Maxwell House Bed and Breakfast was simply wonderful! Why? 1. The home itself is beautiful. 2. The grounds are beautifully kept, as well! With a lovely porch, too. 3. The innkeeper, Penny, is sensational . . . so kind, warm, friendly! Brava Penny! 4. Our room was so inviting and comfortable, with the fragrance of lilacs outside our window, which Penny opened for me, hearing that I love the scent of lilacs! 5. Breakfast was delicious and splendidly presented: The full pot of tea was perfect. The icy cold juice hit the spot. The small skewer of fruit was both beautiful and refreshing. The main course of breakfast meat and cheese-covered scrambled eggs was hearty, and the tender breakfast cinnamon crumb cake was yummy indeed. 6. There were homemade chocolate chip cookies with milk when we arrived.. The Maxwell House Bed and Breakfast is a really lovely place to stay when you visit Walla Walla. We'd love to go back and stay with Penny! We called her on the same day we stayed and she quickly worked to accommodate us despite being out at the time. She is just what an innkeeper should be! Thank you, Penny!

Our first trip to Walla Walla! So lucky to find Maxwell House B&B. Great location walking distance to downtown Walla Walla. Penny, the hostess, couldn’t have been nicer. Her homemade breakfasts, cookies & coffee cake were to die for. Penny’s home is comfortable with lots of places to sit & enjoy the garden, front porch or living room. She had lots of tips & was just a delightful woman.

My husband and I stayed at Maxwell House during a 2 day trip to wine country. We loved the personal touches and the great hospitality reminded us why we love B&Bs. The rooms are comfortable, breakfast is great and the fresh cookies and coffee/tea available 24/7 is a nice touch. We will definitely be back.

The breakfasts were the highlight, as well as the daily cookies (don't miss the peanut butter chocolate chip - yum!). The living room made a nice sitting area, and there were lovely places to sit outside as well. Our room was on the main floor and had a great shower. The bed however, was so soft when I laid down on it my legs and head went up and my middle went down. Our friends stayed in an upstairs room, and found the room somewhat stuffy. Their TV was in a separate room from the bed. That sitting room might have worked for watching TV. However, all their belongings were in that small sitting room, since there were no closets, dressers, etc. for their things. The B&B was billed as an easy walk into town, but it was about 10 blocks to the historic downtown. We did a lot of walking on this trip, and after the first time we drove into town to save our steps for more dedicated walks. We stayed 4 nights, and due to Covid wanted our breakfasts outside which was accommodated (though the first day we got the idea that it was asking a lot). Staff and guests were not asked to mask inside (no matter the vaccination status) and we were the only people wearing masks.

We stayed upstairs in the larger California Suite which was fabulous! Large, comfortable, very effective air conditioning which was critical during their heat wave. Our friends were in the smaller upstairs suite and were very uncomfortable as their A/C was not as effective until Penny added a floor unit that made it better. Penny is the ultimate host—so kind, such a delight, and so concerned that everyone enjoy their stay. The Inn is very clean and decorated beautifully. Breakfast all three mornings was great and Penny’s fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies each day were a treat. (Tip—you MUST book restaurants in advance, and very few are open Sunday and/or Monday). If we go back to Walla Walla we will definitely stay here.

We stayed in the New York room which is located up a beautiful wooden staircase. Despite our late arrival, our lovely hostess, Penny, ensured we had an easy check-in and even left us chocolate chip cookies! Our room had a separate living area that had plenty of space to lay out our luggage and our wine purchases! The bedroom was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. For breakfast, Penny cooked a wonderful home-cooked meal that usually involved a sweet and savory dish. Parking was very easy, but we usually walked the 15-20 minutes to Walla Walla Main street as it is shaded and very nice. By far, the daily fresh chocolate chip cookies were the best! We cannot wait to stay again and highly recommend!

This is our second wine tasting trip to Walla Walla and stay at the Maxwell House with our wonderful host, Penny. There are so many great things about a stay here. It is close to downtown for dining and tastings, but it’s in the historic campus area, so beautiful. Our preference is to taste at smaller countryside wineries, many of which are just minutes away to all subregions in the Walla Walla AVA. Penny is an amazing host. The Breakfasts and attention to detail are perfect can’t say enough. We will be back!

A very nice room, well-appointed, in a charming house on a quiet street that made our stay in Walla Walla a pleasure. I especially enjoyed reading on the front porch while being warmed by the late afternoon sun.

We stayed in the California room, spacious, clean and quiet. Penny made us delicious breakfasts, as well as evening cookies. Great neighborhood for an early morning walk until the heat bakes in on an August day in Walla Walla.

Penny is an amazing host, and her Inn is warm and inviting. Our corner room was spacious and comfortable, with four windows where we could look out on the gazebo and hear the water fountain. Penny always had cookies and coffee/tea out and was delighted to suggest recommendations (we took every one). The Maxwell House has multiple outside conversation areas; a deep front porch, the back patio, the gazebo, all surrounded by lush plantings. Thanks, Penny, for a lovely stay.
