I chose this B&B based on the pictures, the moderate price, and the availability of a king size bed. (Also, the hosts responded quickly to my inquiry... a plus! I like good communication!) The bed was great, but that was the best part. We were assured that the wall unit a/c would cool the room fast. Um, if you call 2 hours fast. We were HOT for a long time when we came 'home' every evening. Some evenings it was very uncomfortable! The bathroom is tiny, the shower is small but adequate. The kitchenette has a microwave and a little fridge, a few dishes that you have to wash in the bathroom sink or outside in their dirty outdoor kitchen area, some utensils, towels and hot pads. You can cook or grill in their outside kitchen but like I mentioned, it was not clean. We never used it. We ate out or just ate fruit and stuff that didn't require cooking. We were told they had all the beach equipment we'd need but we found it very poorly stocked and maintained. The umbrella was totally broken and would not even stay up. We wasted half a day driving 35 minutes to Walmart in Kahului to get a new one... then 35 min back to the beach at Kihei. (The highway speed limit is 40!😳) They did give us a new umbrella the next day, after we bought our own. We used both everyday after that. Their snorkel gear was just gross! Sandy, dirty ...no way we were going to put those things in our mouths or on our faces! We bought our own snorkel gear at Walmart too. Their beach chairs were fine and we appreciated the straw mats to set our gear and bags on so they didn't get so sandy. A small cooler was furnished, but only the ice you could make in two little ice trays in the itty bitty freezer of the tiny frig. (Bring your own zip lock bags for the ice.) The breakfasts were disappointing, except for the mango! The first few days, they gave us fresh mango from their own tree! It was fantastic! But the tree ran out of mangoes and then we got store-bought fruit ( which by the way is no better than mainland fruit, much to our dismay). We could choose 4 items from a limited list: gluten free cereal (Cheerios), regular cereal, (I don't remember what kind... something like Raisin Brand I think), a croissant, a cup of orange juice or milk, a homemade muffin, (it wasn't that good) or fresh fruit. After trying everything on the list, we just stuck with a croissant and fruit every day. It was not fantastic or even great. It was just ok. The laundry facilities are down a steep driveway in a carport of another unit. No one else was staying there so we didn't feel like we were intruding. They furnished the laundry soap but no dryer sheets. The parking situation leaves something to be desired. You have to go up that same very steep driveway and park in front of their garage in one of two narrow spots. (Don't get a low riding car! We had a Buick and ended up trading it in for a Jeep!) If there are other vehicles on sight, you have to park down the hill in the carport where the laundry is. I enjoyed the little chameleons that skitter all over the property. They didn't come inside, though I think they would have if we'd left the screen door open. The grounds and yard were beautiful! We ate breakfast on the deck most mornings, looking out over the treetops and neighborhood, listening to the birds and insects. It was glorious! We were told it was a short 15 minute walk to the beach. Ya no. We drove to the beach. But that was ok because we were able to choose a different beach everyday... until we found the one we fell in love with! Then we just stuck with that one for the rest of our stay. It was about 6 miles from the B&B but soo worth the drive! The hosts were nice. That's all. We didn't really click or bond with them. We tried. (We were there for 12 days.) However, on our last day, they very graciously allowed us to check out late since they had no one checking in that day and to make up for the parking difficulties we had during our stay due to their workers working on the property everyday. Our flight left late and we didn't want to give up our last day at the beach... but would have had no place to shower before going to the airport, so they let us shower there and leave late in the afternoon. It was very kind of them! We had a fantastic time in Maui! The beach we fell in love with is called Po'olenalena. It's to the south in Wailea. But if we ever go back (which we hope to do) we will try another B&B. We don't feel any nostalgia or loyalty to this one. …
