New owners as of January 2020! Welcome to Trail Town USA! The Dancing Bear is on the Appalachian Trail and within site of the Virginia Creeper Trail. We are the perfect jumping off point to the MABDR and a good way point on the TAT
Clean and convenient but downright rude reception upon arrival cast a pall over our stay here. Nobody answered the front door so, as instructed, we went around the back of the building and encountered a man on the phone smoking a cigarette on the back steps. Told him we wanted to check in and he got up, opened the back door and loudly said "Honey you have people!" and went back to his phone call. He then noticed we had parked on the side of the cross street and proceeded to actually YELL at us about where we had temporarily parked. Very disconcerting. There was no signage to guide us and NO traffic on the street. His honey witnessed his rant, made no comment and checked us into our unit. Neither one managed to give us an actual welcome and thankfully we didn't encounter him again. Maybe we caught him on a bad day but there appear to be other places to stay in Damascus and we will be checking them out next time. …

Very sorry for the rude welcome. You got caught up in one of our pet peeves: forgoing the ample, legal, on-street parking in front of the house to park in a traffic lane on the small side street needed to access our (and our neighbors’) property. There are many other places to stay in Damascus that may have more obvious places to park legally.

I spent two days here and went to Grayson Highlands State Park and the Virginia Creeper Trail. I had stayed in a hotel and a couple of airbnb's earlier in the week, and this place was so refreshing. There is a historic main house and two smaller buildings. I stayed in one of the smaller buildings in a room with a private bath. Clean, fresh and airy, with a microwave and small refrigerator, Keurig coffeemaker. Simple and very pleasant. Would gladly return.

We have stayed here before with previous owners and enjoyed it so we wanted to return. New owners helped my group work in a relatively last minute family vacation. My kids and I stayed in Mama Bear while Grandma and Aunt stayed in Papa Bear. We used the kitchen and living area in Mama Bear for when we all were hanging out together eating , chatting or playing cards. Rooms were clean and we used the fans provided when night was cool enough that A/C wasn’t needed but we wanted airflow. Love that they provide clean, older towels we could use to clean off after long bike rides. They have a QR code on form inside rooms that has tons of info on what they provide along with area info. We enjoyed Mojo’s, Damascus Diner and the new coffee and bakery shop across the street ( Main Street Bakery). We hope to return again!…

Elizabeth and Pat were awesome hosts, providing us with local info and conversation without being the least bit overbearing. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities needed. The refrigerator, sink, and coffee maker allowed us to have some meals/snacks for the road, and the Roku was great. Damascus is a really neat little town to base an outdoor adventure, and the Dancing Bear is a great base camp. Looking forward to making it back down there soon.

Pat and Elizabeth are the best. MABDR and motorcycle friendly. Excellent accommodations. Got in late Sunday after 9 p.m. knowing we would be hungry Elizabeth went downtown and got us a pizza. Pat has a full motorcycle shop out back.

My wife and I stayed two separate nights at Dancing Bear while Section Hiking the AT in Southwest Virginia. Shannon and Melissa were very helpful and attentive. Our room was clean and well kept. Be aware that the rooms in the main house share a bath but we had no issues with that. This B&B is close to everything in town and we recommend it as a good location to experience Damascus and all it has to offer.

Clean. Friendly. For sale. Beds were comfortable. There is a hiker box. They are aimed at the community and at through hikers But ...no laundry service. I wish the owners luck in selling. Seems like it was wearing them out though they were working very hard. Only local criticism came from a guy who made them seem better for his being a critic.

Breakfast available and is priced separately due to so many not showing up after confirming. We are not necessarily aimed at a particular kind of traveler. We accommodate section hikers, Creeper Trail bikers, Trans American bikers, fisherman, Crooked Road music fans, sight seers...

Showed up late on a Saturday night with no accommodations planned. I was in town to deliver a car. A local gentleman suggested to give them a call as, they were only a couple hundred yards down the street. It was after 9, yet the woman said they had 1 room left. I got dropped off there , and the owners were waiting on the porch. They showed me in , to a very large room in the main house on the second floor. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I slept great , never heard any of the traffic that others wrote about. There was only one bathroom for a few rooms , but that is not uncommon for this type of place. While this was no issue , as I never once saw another guest , I felt that Iwas being inconsiderate and may have woke others when I was showing at 6 am on a Sunday morning, but my schedule required me to be back on the road by 7am The only reason I did not choose the top rating is not a criticism, but because of the short amount of time I was there never saw any of the other things they offered , and I was not there long enough to enjoy the breakfast they offer, so I can not honestly speak to those amenities But if I am through the area again I will definitely return to this place. The town looks like a great place to spend some time , it is definitely worth a few minute ride off of 81 , as opposed to staying in a chain motel right off the ramp.…

We heard a lot of good things around Damascus about Dancing Bear but we were disappointed. I met our host to get the key and was told then (after getting room price over the phone) that breakfast wasn’t included in the price. That worked out ok but would have been good to know in advance. after that, we never saw our host again. Our room and the bathroom were both very clean but our room was very hot and never cooled off. The bathroom light kept flickering and we couldn’t fix it so I had to shower by flashlight. I called host on cell phone to ask about water and ice and was directed to the dollar store up the street. For someone hiking the AT this is definitely a step up from the tent, but for a couple looking for a special night this was a letdown.

Dear Disappointed, We are a true bed & breakfast, as opposed to a resort or full service hotel, which is maybe what you were expecting (also would have been a lot pricier). We try to accommodate request and are usually on site, but it is not always possible. We decided to separate breakfast prices, as is the current trend, to avoid excessive waste and I apologize that you were not informed.
