Warm and comfortable stay in a lovely part of the island. Sonia was friendly and helpful. I loved the sherry offered on arrival. Everything luxurious without being overwhelming. Hearing running water at night was very relaxing. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We are here to celebrate my birthday for 2 nights and have only been here for 1 night so far! We are in room 11,and it is a really tired room which needs renovating. The electrics are a joke, there is nowhere to charge phone properly as the sockets are on the skirting board! We are so upset to be in such a substandard room. There is no luxury or finesse about it. The mattress is not a king size it is 2 singles joined together so it’s uncomfortable- it is definitely not a romantic getaway as sold by the hotel and virgin experiences. We are not happy here.

I would have liked to give this hotel 5 stars, particularly with respect to staff, especially Casia and Hannah but I do have some criticism. I had booked 3 nights stay. The hotel boasts an excellent restaurant and previous reviews were very good. But I found that the restaurant was closed during my entire stay for unspecified "operational reasons" and I had not been warned when I booked or until arrival. The only local alternative was the Rozel pub down the road, also owned by the hotel where the food was good but not the fine dining experience that I had been looking forward to. The rooms are excellent and well equipped. The breakfasts were excellent and the hotel did their best to compensate for the restaurant closure. The house is grand with large comfortable public areas. But I do feel that the whole hotel needs some TLC. The windows desperately need renovation. The gardens are overgrown and not maintained which is sad as they had once been the pride and joy of a previous owner. Rozel is a very quiet little port and not much there as the only other restaurant and tea rooms have closed down. An hourly bus service can take you to St Helier in about 30mins. I have not stayed at any other hotel on Jersey so hard to compare but I suspect Chateau la Chaire is one of the better ones to stay at when its restaurant is functioning.

Attractive Manor type House with lively outside water feature. The staff were friendly to us if somewhat condescending to some elderly guests ! The bed was very soft so not ideal for us but each to their own . The weather was hot and we were put in an attic bedroom with one fan that had little effect we asked for an extra one but they had all been handed out . Unbearably hot as somebody had left the towel rail on I discovered later ! So not much sleep was had . Disappointed that their restaurant was not on site so we had to walk down the lane to it in a pub - not far at all but after a long journey we just wanted a restaurant in the hotel that is why we had chosen this hotel !

Response from General Manager, General Manager at Chateau La Chaire
Responded Sep 15, 2023
Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately the classic rooms as booked are all on the top floor of the house and during the unseasonal September heatwave all the rooms were hot but the top floor possibly a little more. We do have fans in all rooms but perhaps in the 30 degree heat perhaps were not as effective. With the hotel being fully booked unfortunately we did not spares available. As well as the hotel we also own The Rozel Restaurant, being a two minute walk from the main building. This is a traditionl pub and dining downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. We do serve breakfast and afternoon tea at the main hotel but lunch and dinner is served at our Rozel Restaurant which is no more than two minutes walk from the hotel entrance. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

This place has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, I took my granddaughter and wife for my Birthday, on arrival we noted the room was dirty, the coffee table needed throwing away, the windows were falling apart and needed replacing, curtains were thread bare, the view was of an extractor fan and bed was like an MRI scanner, Ceiling 3 feet about your head, all this for the BEST SUITE in the hotel, at nearly £270 per night !!!! even my granddaughters chocolates were all melted on the bed, asked to see the manager NEVER CAME, following morning at breakfast this was total carnage, after breakfast I asked again to see the manager, I was told she was at home and could not see me, We left £800 out of pocket, I rang and asked for some part refund and was told the hotel said my comments were incorrect, LOOK AT THE PHOTOS and then please DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE. AWFUL

Response from General Manager, General Manager at Chateau La Chaire

Thank you for your comments. It's difficult to agree regarding the room because although we're an old house with old rooms they are certainly not dirty or falling apart. I agree that there is some maintenance required due to heavy use but this is part of a winter maintenance programme carried out each year outside of the summer season. The Rose Suite you had booked does have a sloping ceiling above the bed which is what you may be referring to but this is just a quirk of the room/ house and not a design element. I also agree you can see a roof with an extractor on it but from one window only at the back of the bedroom, the rest of the room and balcony faces front with views of the woodland and hotel terrace. The house itself is 180 years old and is not purpose built as a hotel. The chocolates supplied were part of a package also including flowers and a teddy bear and these were simply left in a location where the sunlight had gotten through. We did offer to change them but this was declined. You did also leave with the other items without paying and bar drinks were removed from your account as a goodwill gesture. I can assure you that breakfast was not 'carnage'. With a fully booked hotel and a small conservatory it may seem a little hectic with lots of people milling about but this is perfectly operated and maintained every morning. Unfortunately I was away during your visit and the reception manager wasn't at the hotel at the time however she did spend 15 minutes on the telephone trying to resolve the issue to your satisfaction. Despite offering alternatives you were determined not to view any other rooms and left. Your comments seem a little harsh and we didn't really get the chance to rectify anything which we would gladly have done to ensure you were happy.

We found Chateau La Chaire very charming and we enjoyed our stay. Chateau La Chaire is located on the side of a lush valley surrounded by trees which was very peaceful. The beach at Rozel Bay is only a few minuets walk away, which is a lovely walk in the early evening. There is a car park down the hill from the hotel which is accessed via some steps or a walk up the road to the main entrance. There is a bus stop near by, the hotel owned pub, and Rozel Bay, generally the area seems very quite. We found a hire car useful to explore, the bus was not very frequent. We also ventured up into the hotels lost gardens. The trail is a basic and back to nature, if you can make the walk to the top of the hill the view of Rozel Bay is worth it, we spotted red squirrels on the way. The hotel should make more of this feature. The hotel was clean and had lots of original features in the public areas. Our room for the stay was on the top floor, it was comfortable and well equipped, with a traditional style of décor but less original features than downstairs. The bathroom was clean and functional, but the hot water did take a few minuets to arrive, but it arrived. The shower had adequate pressure but could do with more volume of water. The staff were friendly, you get a warm welcome. Breakfast was included as we booked direct, this was very nice with a buffet and cooked selection.

We booked this hotel a few days before we traveled to Jersey as our previous booking with another hotel had been cancelled. We spoke to the hotel a couple of times to confirm suitability ie whether the rooms and hotel were quiet. The staff were very pleasant, friendly, professional and helpful throughout. We had 2 superior bedrooms and both were gorgeous. Breakfasts were great. The setting was verdant and felt sun tropical. We were a stones throw from Rozel Bay, a pretty small harbour and beach. We had a lovely time and food was very good everywhere we ate including the Rozel pub which is associated with the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel for a quiet break. It is very quiet (dead) at night but this suited us as we enjoyed going out for dinner. The Liberty bus and the bus tracker were reliable and efficient.

Cannot fault the food but the room and customer service strange. The room The carpet is rotten and coming away from the wall by the bathroom door you can see the floor board mark because it’s so old and thin. The room smells on damp. We had no running cold water when I reported to Sonia her reply was what do you want me to do I have no other rooms. While talking to another couple about the rooms we found out that it was only us that had had no clean bedding after 5 days. They didn’t replenish any shower gel, shampoo or body lotion. Until these was requested. The jacuzzi was loud and kept coming on during the night after use so we didn’t use it again. The the shower head would constantly keep falling during our shower. We have 2 dogs but the was only allowed in the rooms or to leave them in the car. For some reason Hannah fell she should score you out of 100% when clearing the dinner and breakfast plates. When I asked for chips instead of new potatoes sonia wouldn’t let me have them. As a paying customer this is atrocious treatment. You had to sit were you was told. Very very controlling

Thank you for your comments. It is not correct the room smells of damp. It is just a very old house and and might have some historical issues but the rooms are generally well maintained although heavily used particularly in summer. We are a very dog friendly hotel with many guests bringing dogs to stay and you are very welcome to sit out on the terrace for dinner with your dog. It was unfortunate it was raining for much of your stay but like most restaurants we are not permitted to allow dogs in the restaurant unless it's a guide dog. It's wrong to suggest bedding wasn't changed. All bedding is changed after 3 days use. You left your dogs in the room using the pillows and bedspread as their beds on the floor on which they urinated and had to be replaced so we know it was changed. It's also wrong to suggest that staff didn't care because we spoke with you at length. The cold tap simply required a few extra turns and the spa bath turns itself on for 2 minutes after use when empty to self dry the pipes and lines to prevent mould growth. Regards the food and service we really don't restrict where you can sit and are not controlling as you suggest. Tables are prepared and allocated before service but if you prefer to sit a dirty table just vacated then all we ask is a little patience whilt we clean. Nobody is scoring customers so unsure how this has arisen and you would be very welcome to chips if they were available.

We are visiting Jersey for a wedding in Trinity. I checked online for hotels nearby and found Chateau La Chaire. We arrived and were immediately blown away by the location and the building… upon entering we were given a fabulous warm welcome and shown to our room (4). Beautiful big room with four poster bed and huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi. The hotel is truly beautiful, maintaining original features. The surrounding grounds are lovely and a short walk to pretty Rozel Harbour and shingle beach. We will stay here again.

Stayed here for a week while visiting Jersey and honestly couldn’t have been happier with our choice. The hotel itself is an old building with history, beautifully decorated. Rooms were lovely and clean, beds were comfortable and we slept fantastically all week! The staff were always lovely and helpful, we got to know them a little over the week and they were constantly busy but always had the time to help. Food was delicious and cocktails were fabulous too. If you’re looking for a quieter hotel away from the traditional tourist areas this is a great hotel. We felt very relaxed after our stay and would definitely come back!
