Dawson House Lodge built in 1929 enjoys travelers from all over the world. Only 25 miles from Crater Lake National Park we are a popular place to stay for those visiting the park & wanting to enjoy the many outdoor wonders in our area. Hikers, fisherman and 2 & 4 wheel bikes enjoy the area in the summer while the winter attracts fisherman, hunters, snowmobiling & skiers. We are one block from the Amtrak Station in the center of town. With rooms to sleep 1-8 we have one to fit your needs.
As close as most towns outside Crater Lake. I think there were 2 choices in town. I found this to be modest and older, but clean and staff was extremely helpful. It served the purpose very well for me!

The Dawson House is a nice place to stay but it really needs some improvements. There are so much nick knacks around that it appears junky. They also need to update the furniture so it is more comfortable. The beds were really comfortable tho.

If you want to stay on the north side of Crater Lake and can't get into (or afford) the lodge, there are not a lot of choices. The Dawson House Lodge is a mixed bag - I liked the old fashioned aspects like keeping reservations on a paper calendar and the owner/manager? was very friendly and helpful. I also liked the large wrap-around porch with chairs and tables. The room was clean and just spacious enough for our stuff. On the down side, there is a lot of traffic on the road right next to the lodge and the bed was very saggy. Not a bad place to stay but not one to go back to either.

A couple of months ago my boyfriend and I had just gotten off the train and needed somewhere to stay before driving back home in the morning. This hotel was the closest to the tracks so we stopped in. We asked about a room for the night and were given an outrageous price for the "couples suite". I asked the front desk worker if there were any more affordable rooms since we just needed a place to rest. She called the owners?, managers? in and told them we were being cheap and if they had any cheap rooms people like us could afford. I walked out after that. Theres no reason to be so rude and make such rude comments. We went down the road and were very graciously accommodated by another hotel that treated us with respect.

Loved the accommodations and the close proximity to Crater Lake. The hotel has such a wonderful history. We had a great nights rest and the host was very friendly. The bathroom was clean and each room was decorated differently which gave it a homey feel. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would come back again. The general store next store has anything you would need. The hotel was close to Gas and Food. Free coffee and tea 24 hours. Microwave, TV, Refrigerator in the room. Thank you.

It's small and you'll miss it if you blink, but it's a great place for the traveler stopping for the night in between destinations. It's quaintly furnished, the room had a queen bed and a twin bed, great for families. The office offered DVDs to use in room.

I had the family suite. It was totally awesome! It had 3 double beds & a pull out sofa so everyone in my party had there own bed! The room was very cozy & quaint. It reminded me of a country cottage...right out of a Thomas Kinkade painting! The owner was extremely accommodating & friendly. I would highly recommend this place.

This place looks a bit of a heap from outside but dont be put off. Inside the reception was friendly and helpful giving me a personal tour of the room and its features. Room had some intriguing furniture with definate pioneer suggestion made out of pine logs but the bed had a very comfortable mattress. Similarly the room was fitted out with air-con, fridge, microwave and a decent size bathroom. Outside door to a shared balcony which surrounded the property. No tea or coffee available in rooms but good coffee on tap in the lobby. No meal facilities but a diner offering a good breakfast across the road and a traditional restaurant 1 block south with good food and service.

Sort of a retro - lodge. A bit over priced, but that is not a big problem. Actually, not a lot to choose from in this area. Owner was very nice and the roof was very clean. If you are heading north from crater lake, this is a good option.

This place is definitely not for everyone. It is a 1929 boarding house, somewhat modified to be a hotel. The decor is straight out of a second hand shop or flea market. We stayed in the Rose Room on the back of the second floor. It was very quiet. Amtrak runs behind the hotel, but we only heard two trains in the evening, and I heard another around 5 a.m. (My wife didn't hear that one). We didn't hear any noise from the truck stop across the road. After spending about 10 nights in various chain hotels, this was a nice change. There is free WiFi, but it was totally unreliable. Don't depend on it. The staff made us feel like we were there personal guests. Oh yeah, it was clean enough.
