We had lunch, dinner and breakfast during our stay. The food was excellent with plenty of choice on the menu - traditional pub fayre presented well.
Our room was well presented and clean with quality products including biscuits and toiletries.
You can tell by the positive attitude of the staff that this is a well run establishment, and this comes from the top. The manager was visible at every meal, making sure that the operation was slick and that everyone was satisfied with their experience.
This is a period 400 year old building, and as such has it's own quirks and character which, in our opinion, add to the stay. Thank you, we would love to stay again in the future.
We went into our much dearer hotel in Exmouth and wished we hadn't bothered. (See following review) Will definitely stay here again. Only word of warning is that the hotel is in the middle of town on a fairly busy road although we were told that much quieter rear and side rooms were available.
I was here for the Frome Festival (Andy Fairweather Low at the Cheese & Grain) and the Monthly street market (the best I have seen in this country)
Sunday lunch was perfect, a carvery roast with plenty of everything and as it is a brewery owned hotel, I had a great pint of Wadworth 6X
The room was perfect, I actually had the four poster room and had the best nights sleep in a hotel bed for a long time.
The breakfast (included in the room price) was fantastic, coffee, yoghurt, juice, full English, croissants.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
There is also a free undercover carpark which was ideal
The breakfast was good, and service good throughout.
I was initially placed in a room with a noisy radiator, but the manager efficiently and obligingly found me an alternative upon my pointing this out.
Altogether a good experience, and good value for money.
Our room was deep in the labyrinth of this old fashioned hotel. As we have a little one, we had to take all of our things down small winding passageways up and down several flights of stairs. This hotel is not buggy friendly at all and has no other enterances for access. If you’re bringing a travel cot or folded buggy, it’s also going to be difficult.
Parking is free, but limited and first come first serve. It’s underground beneath the local cinema and is very cramped and hard to get into. They claim that it’s unlocked from opening hours, but it was padlocked the whole time we were there and the shutter you have to manually open is stiff and difficult to move by yourself. The code to the padlock is supplied by phone after booking (email if through a third party).
The room itself was a good size, double bed was clean and there were many amenities available: drinks and snacks. The bathroom was spacious, but very cold. The windows are old single glazed with plastic film coating to try and keep heat in. There was only one radiator in the room which on full didn’t keep the room warm at all with overnight temperatures below 0 degrees. We had to sleep in hoodies under the duvet and wrap pur little one up really warm.
The walls are paper thin as we found out at 1:30am when the other guests next door came in very drunk and loudly engaged in what sounded like a good time. We wouldn’t have minded if it hadn’t lasted over an hour. They politely stopped once we banged on the wall in frustration.
Breakfast was a little disappointing. The staff didn’t feel very accommodating, they gave the impression that they didn’t want to be there. When our food arrived, we found that the vegan breakfast was lacking. The toast had no butter whatsoever, no replacement for bacon and one kofta style sausage that didn’t taste very good. The size in comparison to my normal full English was a lot smaller. My meal wasn’t as bad, but still felt small for how much it costs.
All in all we were planning on staying later this month again, but now are reconsidering our booking.
