Good points: - while not on the beach, it is less than 10 minutes (by car) of a very nice one, Pragueira; others like Lanzada are not far away - from here it is easy to visit all the other nearby points of interest without getting stuck in the traffic of Sanxenxo or Portonovo - heated indoor pool! quite rare in Galicia generally, even if you need to pay it's good to have the option - very good breakfast with wide variety of options (except for eggs - only boiled ones, not fried or scrambled or poached - strange) - rooms were ok size - labels itself as 3-star and that's what it is Bad point: - for me really only one, the noise. Partly not the hotel's fault, but the Spanish habit of staying very late (midnight and beyond, including small children) and assuming that everybody else is doing the same means hearing people coming and going, and TVs, and arguments with and between kids when we were trying to sleep; not-too-thick walls; nearby road; and a generator or something that was running until late at night. Note also that in common with most hotels in the region it has no air conditioning, which is usually ok but we had a heatwave!

We went on an organised bus tour and were highly delighted to be checked in at the Nuevo Astur & Spa hotel. A whole bus load was checked in within 10 minutes. Room was immaculately clean. Communial areas were to a very high standard of quality and cleanliness. The dining and bar staff were exceptionally conscientious, courteous, attentive, kind and gracious. The food was remarkable; traditional and the variety and quality far surpassed a 3* hotel rating. The waiters/waitresses insisted that you had had enough by offering seconds or even thirds (if you were actually able to chizzle more down.....). There was music every night and one night there was an entertainer along with a traditional Galician show 'Tipica Queimada Gallega' with full explanation (obviously in Spanish; afterall, we're in Spain). Overall, it was a terrific weeks' holiday whereby the staff simply couldn't do enough for you and nothing was any trouble at all. As we saw it, they bent over backwards to make you feel at home. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

I found this hotel some years ago, and am returning every year since then. The rooms are very nice and big enough, everything is very clean. The staff is so nice, and do everything to make you feel comfortable and have the best time ever. The breakfast is the best i had in Spain, very complete with so many options that you dont even know where to begin. And also the restaurant part is very very good. Typical Spanish food. If you have the chance have at least one meal in the hotel, for sure you will love it. The swimming pool outside is very nice, and also the new spa. Some days a week they have a show in the bar with live music, good for any age. I recommend it.

We chose this hotel based on its website, excellent pool / spa facilities and price (not cheap), all suggesting it was an nice upmarket getaway for a quiet 3 day stay. In fact it is a mass market package holiday type hotel geared up to processing large groups. Very friendly staff but working with 1970s type organisation. It was hard to find - it turns out that the address on the booking form is not the correct the geographical address so the GPS took us a small farm down a country lane. Check in took forever as our online booking form was meticulously hand copied on to 3 separate manual forms, a carbon copy of one of which becomes your room key for charging at the bar (when did you last see a carbon copy of anything?). Its the sort of the place that doesn't seem to trust it guests. There are patronising notices everywhere telling you not to do things (like take food from breakfast), you pay for every round of drinks as you go (unheard of in Spain) and if you want to watch TV in your room, reception will provide you with a remote control - against a EUR 10 deposit (yes really!). Dinner was a farce. There is only 1 sitting at 9pm and most guests are on meal plans. We had no meal plan and trying to order a la carte created great confusion with the staff, they genuinely didn't seem to know what to do. Eventually, a menu was produced which was basically a an inkjet printed price list. A lot of what we chose was unavailable and when we found something that we could order, it was on the table in 90 seconds - we concluded that that they were only serving what was on the meal plan. A bottle of house wine was EUR 10, a lot for Spain, it had a cork but no label! Its the sort of place that if you don't finish your wine or water the waiter writes your room number on it and it will be waiting on your table at the next meal and you WILL of course be sat at the same table for every meal. There are no other food options, no snacks or meals at the bar for example. The room was very small with the smallest beds we've ever tried to sleep on, air conditioning is an open window and there was even one of those "hotel radio" systems piping music to a speaker in the headboard (it didn't actually work though). At times we were in fits of laughter at the place because it was such a throwback to early tourism. There were however many pluses though: GPS notwithstanding the location is good for the beaches and there is a free shuttle: the pool / spa facility is outstanding, indoor and outdoor pools, gym, new tennis courts, beautiful gardens, treatments etc. It is immaculately clean and the staff were without exception very friendly. Basically it was not the hotel for us and was very expensive for a short, independent stay, presumably because they cater for groups and longer stays. I imagine that if you book a full week half board for a large family it would be good value, as other reviews have suggested and there were many large family groups here enjoying themselves. Had we paid half the price, fair enough, but at over EUR 120 a night B&B, it fell well short.

I stayed at this hotel when on an organized trip. The journey there, from Alicante, was horrendous due to very heavy rain & we arrived very late. Nevertheless we were made welcome by all the staff & shown to the dining room within a short time. I told the waitress that I needed a Gluten free diet, which hadn´t been pre-booked, & it was no problem at all. From then on all my food was brought Gluten free without having to remind them & the food was wonderful. So often it is dry because there are no sauces. The hotel has a large bar, with entertainment, & a number of other sitting rooms, all with comfortable chair & armchairs. The outside grounds were beautiful although we were rarely able to take advantage of them due to too much rain. As we were with a group we didn´t have to worry about transport but there didn´t seem much to see nearby. I couldn´t recommend this hotel highly enough.. We actually visited at the end of Septrmber 2012 but ther wasn´t an option for that

Having experienced many such like hotels, our first impressions of helpfulness, cleanliness and comfort surpassed by far,the comments we had read.Every member of staff deserves recognition for their professionalism and friendliness. Even personal attention by the owner of the hotel, asking if everything was satisfactory in the restaurant, which offered service and quality second to none! Well done Nuevo Astur!
