Detailed Reviews
Was a really great experience. Ann made us feel like family. Loved the fun she brought to our experience. If you are looking to be left alone, this might not be for you, but if you like conversation with the owner/host, Ann won't disappoint. Was really great and a goo price too. She also had so many neat things in her B&B for sale from her world travels. Very unique and fun!

This historical town has many old house, one of house turned to be bed and breakfast. Each bedrooms are specious and unique. Look like you traveled to 1900 era. The owner traveled all over the world before she open this bed and breakfast. This town offer Bourbon distillery. In September they have Bourbon festival.

I really wanted to like this place. I read the reviews and thought I knew what to expect with the "flea market" vibe that had been discussed. The location is great and Anne is a sweet lady with a wealth of global travel experience and a charming personality. She very much reminded me of my grandmother. As a bed and breakfast, however, The Veranda fell short for us.
The Veranda is a beautiful old home (more like an in-town mansion) in a great location. Overall it could use a substantial update throughout and possibly a total renovation. We had the master bedroom - the only one with a private bath. The bed was not very comfortable and the flea market clutter in the room was unnerving and a little creepy. Breakfast was delicious but the coffee was terrible - my wife is convinced instant coffee was used in the coffee maker.
Some people may like the "eclectic" style of this place but we did not. On our first trip away with the kids in a year, we were looking for quiet, calm, and comfort and unfortunately it did not deliver despite the nice owner.

Terrible experience! Never again! If you have read other reviews, you know to try to avoid the house tour. Ann, the owner, seems very pleasant. However, there are post-it notes everywhere, don't do this, don't do that. We were informed the day we checked in and after we paid our bill, that we had to leave early on our check out day, because she had to catch a plane for a trip she was going on. I have NEVER been told that I had to check out earlier than the check out time at any other establishment!! My friend and I told Ann we only wanted coffee, no breakfast. She told us she was fixing breakfast and we WOULD eat what she fixed. My friend ate salty bacon, which, she has a health issue and isn't supposed to eat a lot of salt.
The beds are very uncomfortable!! My friend ended up sleeping on a couch in the room. We killed a huge black spider in the room next to our bed. We were afraid to take a shower or bath for hygenic reasons.
Got lectures on what doors to keep closed. We had to run a fan in our room all day and night, because the air conditioning is turned down so low. Suspect it's turned off during the day, and turned on, very low at night. It is so low, our room stays hot.
Ann is very nice, but I believe the bed and breakfast is way above her capabilities, as she is a very spry senior. It would be lovely, if someone would purchase and do a total renovation. Ann needs to retire and downsize.
All in all, the one room we had for $142.13 was EXTREMELY over priced, dirty, mis-managed, and in a state of dis-repair!!
THE VERANDA also sports a FOR SALE sign in the front yard. This should be your first warning of what is yet to come.

Gorgeous Victorian home & wonderful hostess & owner, Ann. She is a well travelled lady having lived all over the world. Five bedroom home (4 up, including owner's BR, and one downstairs). Only one BR suite with private bathroom & whirlpool tub, as well as your private upstairs porch. This is the suite we were in at $ 149 per night & if you figure your wonderful & filling breakfast is worth at least $ 30.00 (couple), the room is a bargain.
The home is about 2 1/2 blocks from the downtown bars, restaurants, & shops. It is five minutes to "My Old Kentucky Home." Numerous distilleries nearby & we toured Heaven Hill Distilleries & went through the bourbon tasting & this was only 7 - 8 minutes away.
Very nice & clean home, and Ann made you feel as if you were at your own home. We would definitely stay there again.

4 bedrooms upstairs share 1 bathroom, and the bathroom didn't even have total privacy. The rooms are decorated with thrift store junk. All the thrift store junk is for sale, so there are price tags on everything. The mattress was also thrift store quality and like sleeping on a wood plank. The house is in need of maintenance and really not a good set up for an inn. We stay at B and B's whenever possible, this was the only bad experience we've ever had.

I found this B&B online and called to make a reservation. Anne seemed nice on the phone. We found the home right on the major road leading in and out of the northwest part of town. It is very close to everything. You can walk to downtown. The home is very large and the rooms very spacious. Anne was very nice. She asked us if we wanted a tour. We did, but not a long one (I read the other reviews). She didn't go on long and was easy to talk to. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. She does have things for sell, but they are mostly confined to one small room. They are mostly old, decorative pieces from around the world. The house was a little warm when we arrived, but Anne turned the AC colder and it was soon comfortable. Anne offered another room to our daughters free of charge, since there was room empty. Our daughters chose to sleep on the sleeper sofa though. They wanted to be near us. The Bed was very comfortable. There are two bathrooms upstairs, one per two bedrooms, typical of B&Bs. The bathrooms were nice and roomy. Anne made a great breakfast for us and was very nice to our two daughters.

I travelled to Bardstown to visit the local distilleries. Our stay at the Veranda B&B was exceptional. The place was clean and attractive and had artifacts from all over the world. The proprietor, Ann Josserand, is an extremely well travelled person who comes with an armload of fascinating stories to relate. The beds were comfortable and the sheets felt fantastic. Slept like a baby. The bed and breakfast offering was hot and delicious and the endless cup of coffee available. Pancakes and French toast always come with lipsmaking bourbon syrup. Cleanliness is a standard offering at the Veranda B&B. This was our fourth stay here and we certainly will come back again.

We stayed at The Verandah for Bourbon Festival in Bardstown and had an amazing time. The house is a historic landmark in Bardstown - mansion would be a more accurate description. It is on the street that a number of notable people have lived on including the owner of Jim Beam - Booker Noe. The house has a number of collectibles and nicknacks from all over the world that the owner has collected during her own travels. The owner knows everyone and everything in town and is more than happy to assist in arranging things to do or giving advice on what not to miss.
Breakfast was a full affair with fruit, french toast with a bourbon maple syrup, and eggs with bacon.
The master room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable.
The Verandah was the perfect place for us to stay to complete our Bourbon Festival experience.

Background we like to try out bed & breakfast properties when available since they lend character, feel like home, and have breakfast included. So we are willing to give most any place a shot. We booked two rooms at this establishment for an event happening one weekend in Bardstown where we could walk to it. When we arrived to check it the elderly proprietor takes us to the room then quickly whisk us away from the room.
She then pressed us to take a tour of the home which I can only assume is here ritual. This started off ok. Down the hall from the room was her "Tax Free Gift Shop"(which there are many similar rooms) and don't get the wrong impression she is not in the TEA party either... the "shop" was beyond all clutter. I had not already mentioned the whole house was cluttered too. If you stay please avoid the tour. So I will not go on about the property and do not want to completely be mean but please consider another bed & breakfast.
-Clutter everywhere without any charm at all(make note we frequent antique stores, junk stores, etc and this is beyond that disorder). It is really not very clean.
-Bathroom was dirty and had many things for sale in it too.
-Some "guest rooms" are actually former dinning rooms and libraries which just have doors shut between them to make a room. It is very weird... (in fact the next morning the couple staying in the old dining room which is next to the stairway said that they could plainly see hear people walking up and down the stairway since the room was not really private/designed to be cut off like a bedroom, that is the only room on the main floor).
-Breakfast consisted of cubed ham.
-Outside of the home is the best part. It is an imposingly beautiful home but needs a lot of maintenance to have it's former glory.
So finally we would not stay here again and really enjoy Bardstown so we would not want another couple to stay and have the same experience. Please look elsewhere.
