Himmel House is centrally located in the historic southwest section of Pittsburg. In 1905, Arthur Lanyon built what is now called Himmel House Bed and Breakfast. Once and now again a Pittsburg showplace, our three story home is built of Pittsburg brick and Carthage limestone in Greek Revival architectural style. While a guest at Himmel House, enjoy being just minutes from downtown shopping, dining, and Pittsburg State University. Enjoy a stroll around Playter Lake and feed the ducks at Lakeside Park only a few blocks away. Combining an eclectic blend of the old with all of today's modern conveniences, we'll be sure to make your stay, business or pleasure, one to remember.
My husband and I spent 2 wonderful days at the Hummel House. Our hostess,Sherri, went out of her way to help us find ways to spend our days. The house is beautifully appointed and has many extras. Our breakfast was the best we have had after 10 days on the road. I definitely recommend it

Home away from Home! The home is beautiful! The town is nostalgic and the host is the “icing” and the “cherry” on top of the proverbial cake! Having a special diet, we anticipated just a few options for breakfast, but our host put on an absolute spread! We will be back soon! Thank you!

Although we live locally, we elected to stay at the Himmel House for our anniversary. What a nice experience. The house is huge, old and marvelously decorated. We stayed in the Decuyper room. Comfortable king bed and very charming down to the last detail. (The chocolates were amazing!) This room also has its own bathroom and a small outdoor balcony. Be sure to spend some time in the giant front porch swing as well. As for breakfast, Sherri served up a delicious yogurt banana split and individual quiches made with fresh ingredients purchased at the local farmers market the day before. Highly recommend staying here & we will be back!!

What a beautiful Bed & Breakfast! The house is a mansion with the best front porch on the planet! Both my husband and I have several food allergies - home made food custom made for each of us was both delicious and beautifully presented. This place is worth getting off the freeway for!!

This is the best B&B I have ever stayed at. Sherri is so welcoming and makes you feel like you are a friend, not a guest!! Her cooking is marvelous and every she has thought of every detail in regards to the accommodations.

Our return visit was perfection, as always! Sherri and Jeff are outstanding hosts, friendly and kind. We were in the two connecting rooms, which are great for a traveling family. The home is spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable, and we like the television and reading rooms for common use. The breakfast was like something from the Food Network! We didn't want to leave, but alas real life called us back.

We enjoyed staying at the Himmel House. Sherri was very nice but Jeff didn't say much. The house is older, or course, which made for some squeaky floors. Everything in the home was in good shape and made for a comfortable stay. The entire second floor is for guests which included two sitting rooms, one had a TV. We were also offered guest snacks FOR SALE. Only one other bed & breakfast EVER that we have have stayed at do they charge you for evening snack in addition to your room rate! Most are kind enough to offer homemade cookies or a small bag of chips, etc. We were never shown the first floor so not sure if that is off limits to guests or not. We peaked at the 1st floor rooms on our way out for dinner and they looked lovely. Some of the 1st floor rooms had a "private" sign hanging on the door knob but you couldn't see that when the door was open. Breakfast was delicious and homemade! All of our meal was very sweet though - even the bacon was coated in sugar or syrup and fried so it was like eating candy. The only other issue we had was - we were not told how to contact the inn keeper. There was no phone number given nor were we told if they would be on the first floor in one of the rooms marked private. Our room was missing an item and we wanted to ask were to locate it but had no way to contact them. The house was quiet - even with other guests in the next room. The town is out of the way but quiet lovely. We enjoyed our evening walk in the neighborhood. We would stay here again if given the opportunity!…

My husband and I and another couple stayed here during a nostalgic tour of Southeast Kansas. The house is beautiful! We had terrific weather and enjoyed our morning coffee on the expansive front porch. We came in about 8 p.m. on a Friday night. Our late arrival was not a problem. The owners are delightful and accommodating. There are three bedrooms, each has its own bathroom. Breakfast was delicious. Everything about our stay was pleasantly refreshing. We left after only one night. Next time it will be our destination not just a stop along the way. Stay here. You will not be sorry. We can't wait to go back!

This little gem is truly home from home. Rooms are fabulous and breakfasts to die for. The shared space is perfect for chilling, inviting colleagues over or why not let Sherri cater you a breakfast meeting. Obvious why all reviews are 5 out of 5.
