Mojave Sands is a private oasis of 5 rooms in a beautiful desert garden setting with a large pond and waterfall wall and large gorgeous Desert Willow and Palos Verde trees. The rooms are striking and cool in their remodeled state and are appointed with king or queen handmade Black Walnut platform beds, modern furniture, and record players with eclectic album collections. The bathrooms feature tiled walk-in showers with custom hardware and glass doors. Parking is free and gated.
Got in late, was not a problem because they have after hours check in. Tired and thirsty from travels. Got into the room, boom! Water in the fridge, thank you almighty majave sands hotel. Wanted a shower, so played some records which were provided, on the cute little record player, also provided and hopped in yhe shower. Let me tell you, that water pressure had me seeing the Lord. Went to bed. It was awesome. I'll never forget the water pressure; stories will be told of it for years to come.

The hotel was fantastic. Our room (suite 1) was beautifully designed and very comfortable with a nice galley kitchen. The bed was comfortable and the record player was a great touch! The small terrace outside with a bathtub was very nice after a day of hiking. The only complaint was occasional noise from the road. Mojave Sands is a fantastic place!

My partner and I stayed in the motel and couldn't fault the room, spotlessly clean, lovely touches included great coffee and a cafetiere, the vinyl selection, comfy bed and pillows, great bathroom products and the shared courtyard is lovely. However, we were the only guests and with no onsite personnel, felt a bit weird. I definitely would not have enjoyed it as a single female traveller, particularly with a porthole window in the door opposite the bed with no covering. I am a light sleeper, and whilst I heard the odd motorbike, it was not too noisy, just didn't sleep worrying someone might look through the window!! Thankfully the motel has changed the no wi-fi policy to include it, as a foreign traveller with no USA cell phone I would have felt even more vulnerable without wi-fi call ability.…

Response from Susan Burnett, General Manager at Mojave Sands
Responded Dec 30, 2022
Hi Sally, we are so sorry to hear you felt unsafe. We do have a steel cor-ten wall around the entire property with an electric gate and the public has no access to the property. We also have a full security system with cameras that notify us of any movement on the property 24 hours/day. If you had let us know you felt exposed from the porthole window in the door we would have immediately given you a covering for it. Joshua Tree is a very safe and quiet village and despite that we take every precaution to ensure the safety of our guests.

We were so glad to find this beautiful spot to spend a night in Joshua Tree. It's a 1940's motel that has been brilliantly updated, using reclaimed materials and vintage furnishings to create a truly special atmosphere that is stylish without seeming pretentious. Our rooms were comfortable and welcoming, down to the record player--with a truly inspired selection of LPs--and the small patio with a trickling fountain. The shared courtyard is a gorgeous desertscape with a koi pond. We will definitely come again.

The room in this boutique hotel was as beautiful as the online photos. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy my stay due to constant traffic noise on the immediate adjacent highway leaving me a sleep deprived zombie. When I shared my disappointment with the manager (via texts, I never saw her face) she only said "I'm sorry. I've never had one complaint. You should consider ear plugs." At $300 a night I am accustomed to more thoughtful customer service solutions.

My wife and I stayed at the Mojave Sands for two nights. The place is amazing and beautiful -- the room was extremely stylish and the grounds are impeccably designed and maintained. We stayed in suite 5, which was large and has a full kitchen. A few things would have been good to know before booking. The property is really close to the main road, so there's a LOT of traffic noise. It's hard to feel super Zen while hearing trucks barreling by at all hours. The 2nd thing to know is that there are no curtains in the main living area of suite 5. We felt like we were in a bit of a fishbowl. (This seems fixable.) The 3rd thing to know is that while the built-in furniture looks really cool, it wasn't super comfortable. On the positive side, the location is close to town and a short drive from the main JT park entrance. And it really is a unique space, provided you're cool with the issues mentioned above. …

Not only was this the perfect venue for our son's wedding, it was a perfect place to celebrate their love! The motel and grounds is a mixture of eclectic desert touches and a variety of mediums from woods, to metals to glass. The grounds are a beautiful desert setting and offers a number of seating clusters as well as space for the ceremony with a backdrop of a stone waterfall, platform/stage with walk way flanked by pools complete with colorful gold fish swimming around. Space to arrange tables for dinner and a dancing stage. We even enjoyed a fire blazing in the late evening to continue the glow of the afternoon love story. Each of the motel rooms were comfortable, accommodating and yes cool relief from the 98 degree temps. Any venue can be made beautiful but the best venue can not be great if the staff is less than sufficient. This is where Mojave Sands really stood out. AAA+ we could not have asked for a better experience Dana- is GREAT!!! She took our experience and not only gave us great service and assistance in areas we would not have expected but she made each of us feel like we were friends by the time we left. Customer service was superior! Thank you to all the staff.…

Can really only be described as beautiful, wonderfully simple design that fits the desert perfectly. No fuss, clear messages on how to get in and parking details. It was 104 degrees outside but the materials and design are cool in more ways than one. The outside bath is quite a thing indeed, it’s one of the most pleasant hotels we’ve stayed in in three big road- trips in the States. After nine hours in the car through the desert it was pretty much perfect.... lady who ran it was also charming. If you don’t like this place you have no soul!

Fantastic place to stay while exploring The Joshua Tree National Park. Clean, comfortable and spacious. We stayed in room 5 which is the largest and the best if you can get it. Others are lovely but smaller. I wholeheartedly recommend this motel to stay at.

We're still here but our visit has been nothing but pleasant. A very well designed small place, comfortable with great outdoor amenities. Staying in one of their suites so we have cooked dinner on their grill and in the kitchen. A record player (very pre-stereo) and nostalgic vinyl (what else?). My only suggestion? The highway noise would rule out suite #1.
