First off, this is not the place to stay for more than one night. It's a place to be for our night back from being out of the country, before we fly back to our home state. Reasons are: front desk: we got there late at night, around 10pm-ish. I did not see the guard then, but what I did find is a front desk clerk talking to what I believe is another front desk clerk, the 2nd one just standing around a few feet to the side and not acknowledging us. The main guy was nice, but too relaxed and just doing his basic duties to get us in; thank me for my Platinum status, and send me on my way. Note that I don't expect for an upgrade in the middle of the night for a one night stay, but considering the only upgrade I'll get is to be on the 4th floor and he offered me a 3rd floor, I was too tired and too uninterested to stick around the lobby area for too long to ask for it, since I feel like I was getting in the way of their conversation as it is. He did offer me a late check-out which I took, but I had to leave at 10am the next day anyway to get on with my day which includes driving around for work before I head back to my home state later in the night. The hotel's area is safe-ish enough, but the hotel is situated where I would not be walking around in the middle of the night. The good thing is that I can see from my room where my car is parked. The suite itself is clean, it has a kitchenette, but the bed is one of the worst I've slept in. It had zero lumbar support whatsoever. The room is fairly clean. The breakfast area is small, but it had the basics of the scrambled egg, bacon, coffee, OJ, waffles and bagel. Do not expect much, but it's free. Granted there were only 3 other group eating at the time we were there, the person in charge of the breakfast area stayed on her phone for half the time we were there. I employ people, and my pet peeve is paying someone to just sit/stand around on their phones half the time on the clock. It's just run by mediocre crew. I like the fact that the gym is visible and easy to find, but it's certainly small. The pool is in front of the hotel, and it looks safe and nice enough but we had no time to enjoy it. I did see the guard, and the front desk clerk in the morning are better and there were 3 of them. I did tell them that the room, when I opened the door, smelled a bit musky. I was too tired the night before to fuss around with a room change, I doubt the next room would have been better. IMO they would not need a guard if they pay more for better staffing and better amenities or breakfast selection. Better paying guests will pay top $ if they think they can get what they pay for, and this hotel definitely did not offer the best bang for your buck. The room smell, and the bed will not make me want to go back again definitely. It seems like I'm paying good $ to deal with crap room for the same price I can pay for much better Marriott hotels, albeit with no kitchen and no free breakfast.

Response from Marisol Meza, Guest Services / Front Office at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Manhattan Beach
Responded Jan 29, 2024
Ligaya72, Thank you for taking the time to provide your honest feedback. Receiving warm and friendly service from our staff sets the tone for a great stay. This was not your experience, and I sincerely apologize for failing to meet your expectations. I have shared your feedback with the associates in both front desk and breakfast departments, and as a teachable moment, we have discussed our service standards and reviewed improvement opportunities in the service they provide. I am confident that these necessary steps will ensure your experience at check in, and breakfast hours is an isolated issue, and we hope you choose to give us another opportunity when your travels bring you back to the area. Warmest Regards, Marisol Meza| Operations Manager

If you stay here, be sure to get a room away from the metro rail. The hotel is situated just a few hundred feet away from the elevated rail, and trains rumble by every few minutes. I was in a room facing the train, and my nerves were frayed. Otherwise, the location is decent, the room is decent, and laundry facilities were good. I just can't stay here again because of the train noise. Oh, and the $20 / day parking charge is a bit of a rip-off.

Although the morning supervisor was attentive and did credit us for having no hot water, other than smiles from the housekeeping staff, the rest of the employees were uninterested in guests. But the main concerns are the facilities: the elevator is shabby, dirty, and needs service. The general feel of this hotel is somewhat rundown-not at all to Marriott standards. The breakfast area was seldom cleaned, very hot, and in reality closed at 8:45, not 9AM, in that the server started cleaning up and not replenishing by then. One day they even ran out of butter well before closing. I had signed up for every other day housekeeping and double checked that we were on the list, only to return to a dirty room and no new towels. Our TV didn't work correctly and after calling the desk found out it needed to be unplugged and replugged. Finally, we had no hot water one morning, and only lukewarm for my husband's shower another day. Definitely not what I would expect from Marriott.

We were disappointed upon walking in. There was a security guard standing in the corner of the lobby. While one person in my party checked in, I walked to the back of the lobby to see what else was in the lobby, specifically a laundry. The guard raised his voice and told me that was employee space only. It was not marked as such, and I told him that. He was rude. When we got uostairs to our room, there was a person working in it, and it was not ready. The person was very nice about it, though. We hung out in the fitness area and used that equipment while we waited. The fitness area is basic at best. They don’t change the linens or clean during your stay here. The rooms are dull, old, and abused. The desk workers play on their phones and don’t acknowledge guests in any way. Security guards are ever present, and since the area around the place looks okay, this seems eerily uncomfortable. We didn’t feel welcome, happy, or safe. It’s a bad place.

This hotel is committing fraud. I could forgive having to vacuum myself, the terrible Wi-Fi, the tv never working, the broken sink, the trains every five minutes, the fire alarm going off for hours. Even the roaches. I cannot forgive spending thousands over the course of two months, where the inconsistent front staff would charge arbitrary amounts saying we were good and then at random times demand more money, locking us out of rooms after we pay, threatening us and then we pay them and they kick us out anyway in the night. They call the police on my family with three toddlers who threatened to take my children! And even now, weeks later they keep charging multiple times every day, $50, $144, $2, $2700 (which is more than our reservation). They have refused to remove our card and even after stealing $1000 for days we did not stay there, demand we pay another $1000 more. I have to cancel my card, dispute with Expedia and my bank, and take legal action. I will never stay at any of the properties associated with this hotel and will make sure nobody I know does either. Don’t stay here. And if you do, I suggest paying through a third party. Do not trust them with your card information.

My sister, who lives in the local area, wanted me to stay in this particular area because she felt it was safe. I was welcomed by David at the front desk - he is such a good ambassador for TownePlace Suites, very welcoming and accommodating, always a big smile on his face throughout my stay. My reserved one-bedroom suite was not available, so my 5-day stay was upgraded to a two-bedroom suite at no extra expense to me (with a tv in each bedroom and another in the living area). The website promised a grab-and-go breakfast, but it was really a full breakfast so that was a pleasant surprise. Eggs & bacon, 2 wafflemakers, oatmeal with toppings, packaged muffins, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices/coffee/tea, bagels/toast, sometimes eggs & bacon & other times packaged breakfast sandwiches that were kept warm. I used the fitness center daily – 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills, a stationary bike, & free weights - & never had a problem with wait times. I loved having plenty of dresser and closet space – some more modern hotels I have stayed in have had no place to store any clothes. Water pressure in the shower was great, shampoo/conditioner/body wash provided. Although I never used the kitchen for anything other than storing some items in the refrigerator, it seemed to be stocked sufficiently if I had wanted to cook.

Got terrible experience. Stayed in this hotel for more than 45 nights. In the last week, my luggage got stolen from hotel store room. Once I notified the staff, they never bothered to update the status. Error can happen, but the way my case handled by Marriott Hotel Group is very much disappointing. It is already been over 10 days, they yet to give a proper response. Only response i got is Claim#, what will I do with that. Their room service and TV also sucks, since I am independent and seldom watch TV, I didnt bother about it. Their WIFI coverage is very poor in the room, always faced difficulty taking meeting in the room. Free Breakfast: very limited options, don't select this hotel because of Free Breakfast. My daughter and I spent one night here, in two separate studio suites. Mine faced the pool area and hers was on the other side. I really liked this hotel. It is close to a very nice beach (Manhattan Beach). My suite was bright, sunny, and spacious. The hotel is also close to the airport, making it extremely convenient. Everything was modern, clean, and comfortable.

We had a single night stay there at the beginning of our holidays. Convieniently located 10 mins away from LAX and 10 mins from the Manhattan Beach Pier. As other mentionned, rooms are a bit dated, but all was functional and clean. Wifi worked fine and breakfast is what you'd expect from a Townplace suite. 20$ is a bit steep for parking knowing there's plenty around, but I guess it's a rate that comes with the LAX proximity.

I have been staying here for years and it used to be much cleaner and cozy. Apparently so has everyone else. The room stunk as though someone had deep fried something. I asked for a spray bottle or something to get rid of the smell. They gave me something watered down. Could not get rid of smell. Carpet was gross. Bathroom old..needs an update. Front desk very friendly.
