I lived in this wonderful old house from1945-1949 and had been wanting to return for many years. I was so gratified to find it restored to its former glory. I just loved the charming decor and antique furnishings. Everything has been provided for the comfort and enjoyment of the guests. And better bring an appitite! The breakfasts were amazing! Peter and Barbara are delightful host and hostess and Peter amused us with his magic tricks. Altogether a delightful visit! This was my 80th birthday present from my son and daughters and the best birthday ever!

It's our anniversary and this was the perfect place. Beautiful home, fun yard, cozy family room, comfortable bedrooms with their own bathrooms. Private, yet family friendly... had a great time visiting with others staying too. Short walk to shops, movies, and food. Definitely coming back here again. 😊

Lovely Victorian home complete with furnishings from the era. Walking distance to old town and fun garden/yard theme. Breakfast served at 9:00 a.m. family style. Delicious offerings and plenty of it. With any luck, Peter will perform acts of magic to delight you. Prices quite reasonable. I would suggest this place to any single travelers, quite secure and you're well looked after.

We love B&B's and this one is among our best experiences. We stayed in the Brunswick Room and we loved it, very warm and inviting. It was nice to have our own bathroom, the other rooms have their own as well. Grass Valley is a wonderful setting with so much History and oh so much to take in, no way you will be bored here. Great Dining, great entertainment and so much to see. You will be hard pressed to find better Hosts than Barbara and Peter. They have a wealth of knowledge in regards to the History of the area. You will enjoy Peters "Magic" Breakfasts.

My family and I have stayed at Elam Biggs multiple times a year, for six years, and counting. All of the rooms are well kept and unique, with different items that perfectly fit the motif of this area. The house is a Victorian from the late 1800's, and the interior intends to display the building's history. Hot coffee and tea are available at 7am and a warm, home-cooked breakfast is served at 9am. Peter and Barbara have been nothing but kind to us, always offering to make out experience as enjoyable as possible. That could include using the fridge for leftovers or recommending places to explore in Grass Valley and Nevada City. In the warmer seasons, the yard is the perfect place to relax, sit in the sun, and maybe enjoy a good book. Peter and Barbara are gracious hosts who open up their home to anyone who is seeking a home away from home on their vacation. Their company keeps us coming back at least a couple times a year. If you're going to stay anywhere in Grass Valley, I highly recommend staying with Peter and Barbara!

Hard to find a more charming couple than Peter and Barb!! Their B&B is one not to miss! They go out of their way to make you feel more like family than guests. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights while visiting the area. Peter entertained us with his magic and Barbara made incredibly tasty breakfasts and yummy cookies!!! Highly recommend!!

My husband and I discovered this beautiful B&B several years ago on our quest to experience Grass Valley's Cornish Christmas. As, avid, B&B travelers we cannot express enough just how inviting Elam Biggs is. We have made this a family & friend's tradition annually and book every room in order to enjoy all Peter and Barbara do to make their guests feel welcome. Top Notch Customer Service!!!! You will not find another location with such hospitable owners. You are welcomed with homemade cookies to enjoy throughout your stay, tea/coffee bar with all the "foo-foo" and a home filled with timeless treasures that take you back. Peter and Barbara prepare a breakfast fit for royalty! The table is prepared with beautiful settings and guests are served a delicious meal to enjoy before heading out. Definitely some of the best dishes I've tasted! Peter provides fabulous entertainment that lightens your heart and makes you laugh. How can you go wrong with such attention to those who choose to stay at Elam Biggs? Every room is uniquely decorated with plenty of space for luggage or belongings. Rooms are clean and provide a beautiful environment in which to relax and enjoy. Elam Biggs Bed and Breakfast caters to all generations. The historic nature of the home is what draws you in, but the love and passion for making you feel at home is what keeps you.

We just got home. Its Thanksgiving night. We had booked the wed night before Thanksgiving. Then at the last minute, since the rooms were still available, I added Thursday night, since my husband was able to get Friday off. I am extremely careful at selecting any hotel, b&b, resort... as I am allergic to dust, cats, and dogs. I have asthma as well. So I had called to ask if their home was a pet-free environment. I spoke to both Peter and his wife. They both confirmed it was a pet free environment. We arrived after dark. When I walked in, I didn't smell any pets, so I was happy. The place is very decorative inside and out. It's like sleeping in a museum. I loved that. But it made it difficult to find a place for our things, in the bedroom. My college son had his own room. He has very mild allergies as well. It was 2 hours after falling asleep that I woke up with asthma. I pulled out my rescue inhaler and the Pulmicort. I drank a lot of water, and sat there for 5 hours working through it. I was able to sleep 2 more hours, then got up. My son said he developed a stuffy nose at night. We all went down for a very yummy breakfast with Peter doing magic tricks, which was interesting. As I looked around, in the light of day, I realized there was a thick layer of dust on many things. During breakfast, the other couple talked of how they always come to Elam Biggs b&b and how they always travel with their cats, since their dog died. By the end of breakfast, I realized my lungs had gotten worse. I ended up in the emergency room and unable to go back to the b&b. Peter would not refund our 2nd night. I didn't press the matter for several reasons. They havent had many people come lately, they need the money, and I highly respect Peter's military service. It is a reasonably priced b&b, I think its seen better days, but I if DC you don't have allergies and travel light... without stuff to hang up or set out. It is a nightmare for anyone with allergies.

We went to Grass Valley without reservations and were shocked at the hotel prices--about $200 for one with decent reviews. This led us to the Chamber of Commerce where we saw the brochure for Elam's. We had backed off from B&B's because of a couple of uncomfortable experiences, but our surprisingly great experience at Elam's has caused us to re-evaluate B&B's. First, it was only $95. Second, they were as nice as can be. Third, the breakfast was great. Fourth, we had a great time visiting with them and the other guests. Fifth, the place was so cute. It was so great that I wanted to write a review, and when I went in to do so was shocked at the one negative review I saw. I can't imagine!! I have nothing but praise for the owners and the entire experience.
