I stayed at the Hotel Alegria for a month in March 2022 and it was just lovely - friendly, welcoming staff could not do enough for me. It was just a few steps from the hotel to the beach bars and restaurants where one could dine with toes in the sand. It was also a couple of minutes walk to the best supermarket in Cabarete and other shops. Hotel Alegria is at the end of the bay, giving stunning sunset views, and you can either walk left along the main part of the beach, or walk right to find rockpools and a totally deserted beach where you can often have it completely to yourself. I rented a motorbike to get around easily, but I spent most days just enjoying the mature garden, the rooftop terrace and the atmosphere of this lovely small hotel. While I was there it was changing ownership, and the new owners had a wealth of ideas to make it even more comfortable and pleasing. I look forward to going back. It was also surprisingly cheap for such a wonderful location.…

As always hotel alegría is very quiet and cool place to enjoy a few days vacations in the heart of cabarete and the beach. Joseph the comandante in chef keep the place alive with us great service and information Hotel very clean But if you want some water make sure you are very thirsty lolll because the restaurant in the front sell the bottle of water 50 cents so is better to go to the super market janet As a travel agent I suggest this place

Nice area and great hotel on the beach. The rooms were nice and clean and there is a restaurant on the main floor. No elevators so there are stairs to climb to your rooms. Cheap rates for a nice room.

My husband and I spent a wonderful week in September at Hotel Alegria. Our room had sliding glass doors and a patio where we had coffee every morning. From this hotel, we could walk to the beach and its restaurants, down the main road of shoppes, and to the local grocery store for fabulous bakery bread and anything else we needed. Staff was helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable. The host couple made it a point to meet us and ensure that our stay met our expectations, and more. This was our second trip to the DR, and our second stay at this hotel. We hope to return soon.

Comfortable bed, no A/C but ceiling fan cooled room off well. Good hot showers. Fridges in room are great for stocking up on groceries from nearby Supermarker! 3 minute walk to beach, 1 minute walk to grocery store - really ideal location! Wi-fi could be spotty in rooms but full strength in lobby or on roofdeck. Roofdeck and jacuzzi an added bonus (great for sunsets) and small area with weights. Food - great bar/restaurant sharing space with hotel, offers Sunday movie night and quality food. Staff - amazing! Peter couldn't be more accomodating or easy to communicate with.

I had no issues here which were not minor and quickly addressed by the owner, who is American. He is a fine gentleman who bought this place years ago and has kept it a budget priced small hotel where you get a bang for your buck. I don't mean the bangs of the motorbikes on the main road, which it is far enough away you don't get the noise--instead you get a peaceful, perfect spot almost on the beach itself. I did not want the extra air conditioning because of the pleasant sea breezes which kept me happy at night. I saw not one single bug. (referring to other reviewers). I could not ask for more for my money. The staff looks out for you and tries to make you happy. Thanks Peter for making Alegria what I am sure has been a joy to many travelers from many years ago until now. I would not hesitate to stay here again.…

1. You have to pay beforehand and they didn't asked our names until later. 2. You have 5 minutes to decide if you like the room and of course because it took us longer to get our stuff due to rain we couldn't get a refund after telling we didn't liked the room. 3.the room was overpriced (65$!!!!!) and it doesn't even includes breakfast 4. The kitchenette was dirty, the fridge was rusty and unconnected. 5. Floor tiles were broken. 6. Queen bed it's actually two individual beds connected in the middle. 7. they asked us where we were from after we asked for the refund as if their answer depended on our nationality or ethnicity. Don't recommend this place on high season and wouldn't definitely pay more than 20 bucks for a room.

Response from AlegriaOwner, Owner at Hotel Alegria
Responded Jan 9, 2018
The guests examined the studio early in the day and paid for a one night stay. No problem with either the cost or condition of the room. They returned in the evening saying they decided to stay elsewhere and asked to be refunded their payment. No hotel is going to provide a refund under those circumstances.

This last trip for my wife and I was our 7th time we stayed at the Alegria. Peter and his staff are again very kind and helpful in accommodating to make you feel at home. If anyone is looking for a nice clean hotel for good bang for your buck I really do suggest this hotel. Its location can't be beat with access to Janet's supermarket and the beach just steps away.A good place to have a quiet time with a book and coffee on the patio. We definitely will be back.

February 2017 was the 5th or 6th time we came to stay at the Alegria. The place feels like home, love the fact it's small and all the staff knows you and your preferences. This year we were there for 3 weeks and again it was wonderful. Staff is amazing and super helpful should you have a concern. The first 2 nights I didn't sleep well because I had a lumpy pillow, I mentioned it in passing and came back to the room that evening to a brand new awesome pillow. We stayed in on of the garden rooms, and loved the patio at night. Nice and quiet with the ocean waves for ambiance. After a rainy day there is bound to be a bug or two that finds it's way into your room, you are after all staying right in a tropical garden, but no big deal! The location is second to none, minutes to walk to anywhere in Cabarete. And beautiful long beach walks can be taken to the East and the West. Love this place, will be back again!…
