La Posada (1930) is the masterpiece of architect Mary Colter, hotelier Fred Harvey and the Santa Fe Railway. This was the last great railway hotel built in America, and the finest historic hotel on Route 66. National Landmark building and gardens, famous art collection, and one of the best restaurants (The Turquoise Room) in the southwest.

Nice room, great food, great people, the art work is mesmerizing. A drive to Winslow is worth your time. The La Posada is a re-built hotel from the “Harvey Days.” The food is amazing. It’s right by a major train route so expect a little noise but that’s just what also makes this such a special place.

We stayed for 1 night during a recent road trip. This is a former Fred Harvey Hotel that is full of Mexican influence in its design and decor. Check-in doubles as a gift shop with lots of interesting items. Our room was on the main level (no elevators) and had a terrace. The room was a bit on the small side but the bathroom was nice with a large shower. We had dinner and breakfast in the Turquoise Room and both were excellent. Great service and fantastic atmosphere. It's like stepping back in time.

My favorite hotel. It's an experience vs. a stay on the road driving cross-country even that's what it really is (for me.) Could be a destination since the food is so good, atmosphere just lovely and the town is getting more and more walkable and artsy.

ABSOLUTELY a must stay! Lovely, peaceful, clean, enchanting, friendly! Pet positive. We will find an event to come back to Winslow just to stay here again. October 2024 just might be the time to come back for the car show!

Easy access off I40 Beautiful and spacious property. Check in at gift shop which was prompt and very informative of property. Wonderful restoration and decor. The lighting looks original and is very beautiful. Tile work throughout is looking lively and colorful. There are several areas to explore and relax, chat, read or do a puzzle. Room very comfortable with lovely amenities. Definitely worth the overnight on our way to Scottsdale.

I would stay here again if passing through Winslow. This hotel is so charming. The beds were super comfortable which isn’t easy to find in a hotel. So much character in the room and the hotel lobby and grounds. Go exploring as there’s so much history here. All staff were pleasant and accommodating.

Very sad. We drove to see Navajo Rug. Told us they were on winter hours. Not on web page. Restaurant was great. Valentina is such a sweet heart. The hotel is beautiful. Two hours drive and two hours home. Maybe someday...

This lovely historic hotel is worth a stop as long as you value history and charm over modernity. The hotel maintains its original architecture/infrastructure as a Topeka and Santa Fe Railway hotel from the early 1900s. Service is very good and amenities (eg the towels and soaps) are excellent, plus the bed was large and super comfy but there is no elevator, and our room was definitely historical with low wattage lighting and a single electrical outlet. On the other hand, the WiFi was good. Beautiful Navajo rugs abound but the artist gallery is downright creepy, being focused on an artist who was/is apparently obsessed with death. Worth a one night stop - or longer if you seek a digital hiatus.

We stayed at the La Posada last week. They have done a beautiful job rehabilitating the hotel. It is like you are in an old movie. Specifically, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Most of the employees there are "pod people" who know only a tiny bit about the hotel and don't seem to be at all interested beyond that. So after about three sentences, any conversation comes to a halt. They were all friendly enough but were pod people. We checked in and went to the bar and ordered two beers. The server did not know how to pour a beer and the taps were not working properly. Two other people came to work on the pouring problem. Anytime you see three heads trying to solve a problem, you can conclude that none of them know how to fix it. They eventually gave up. So it was a sloppy pour with the glass wiped off with a bar rag. My wife cancelled her beer and drank nothing. Our room was the Lauren Hutton room. Interesting that the hotel closed in 1957 but Ms Hutton did not start her career until the mid 1960s. Perhaps she stayed there after it reopened but the photo shows her younger than that. In any case the room was large and nicely furnished Unfortunately there was pink mildew around the top of the bathtub. It was light but it was there. We took showers instead of baths to avoid the mildew (actually it is a bacteria). The room should have been designated as the John Wayne room in honor of the toilet paper. Because it's rough, it's tough and it doesn't take *#% off anybody. I thought we were now in a different movie - True Grit. La Posada is supposed to be a nicer property than to have TP like that. The hotel itself is very well restored but the style of artwork everywhere is not in keeping with the experience of staying at an historic hotel. All that art is apparently available for sale and is displayed everywhere you go. More supply than demand, it appears. Aside from all that art, there are photos of celebrities hanging randomly throughout the hotel and at each room. However, I did not see a single photo that showed any celebrity actually at the hotel. BS perhaps? I asked the friendly gentleman at the front desk about it but, of course, that short conversation went nowhere. A big draw to Winslow is the large Navajo rug spectacularly displayed at the old railroad station which is now the Affeldt-Mion museum, part of the La Posada. As one enters the rug room there is signage with narratives about the rug and which could have been written more accurately. For instance, the rug is described as single loom but could have been better described as single composition. The cleaver method of display is extremely well built with the half platform hinged to display 1/2 the rug at an angle. It is very strongly built and well secured for safety. The rug is displayed upside down. Perhaps this was on purpose to show the "spirit line" at the corner. But, of course there was no one at the museum with any information about the method of display or about the rug or anything else. As we left the museum, we asked about the vintage trailer out front. The clerk knew nothing about it. We have come to find out that there is quite a bit of information about it on the museum website. So she wasn't interested enough in where she worked to look up her employer's website. Another of the pod people. In conclusion, if you go to Winslow, be sure to see the large Navajo rug. If you decide to stay at the La Posada, be sure to bring your own toilet paper, your own beverages, your own bathroom disinfectant, your patience and don't forget the BS repellent.

Didn't stay at the Hotel, but stopped on our way out to Phoenix for breakfast in the Turquoise Room Restaurant and can say it was by far one of the best meals I've ever had!! The whole family tried many different selections, and everyone was very pleased. The whole place is just dripping with history!! Will certainly stop again on our next trip thru Winslow.
