Excellent location, helpful and friendly owner, all the amenities you need. Beautiful views any time of day but sunsets spectacular. We enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Roosters crowing is the call of the Islands and to be expected. Amuri Sands neighbouring properties have roosters, maybe take ear plugs if you think it may bother you or embrace an early start to enjoy more of Aitutaki. Amuri Sands is a great place to relax and regather.

Kia Orana Kellie and Steve Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in the not to distant future. The weather continues to be very warm but we are now having some cooling breezes. One of the big features of staying at Amuri Sands in Aitutaki is the relaxed style of holidaying where you read, sleep, fish, watch the sunsets etc - no rush as it's "island time". Happy fishing in the Kaipara harbour. Kia Manuia Mark

Just spent three weeks at Amuri Sands, this is our second time there and it is a special paradise. Beautiful view, sandy beach and snorkelling right from the beach. Mark, the owner is very thoughtful and considerate making sure we had everything we needed. The units have everything we needed to self cater and managed to make some excellent meals after hunting and gathering ingredients on the island. It is an excellent spot to rest and relax and even managed to get creative and turned Mark's beach front into our version of Bocci ball, which we appropriately named "Coco Bocci". (Photo attached) We have travelled extensively and this is one of our top favourite places.

Kia Orana Louise and Mac Always such a pleasure to have you stay. Unfortunately with only two units we couldn't put all the family up but it seems everyone used Amuri Sands as the base which was great. I have no doubt you will have adjusted to those "cool" days in Canada by now - such an extreme to our weather here. Thanks for writing a review and we will see you in Canada or you here again but we will meet up. Take care Mark

The comfort and privacy of Amuri Sands was just what I needed. Best view with palm trees, oceanfront and sunsets. Mark was very helpful with scooter arrangements and island tips. I went solo but this a perfect spot for couples too. Stayed a full week with snorkel trips every other day. Several wonderful food choices within walking distance or get take away and eat in.

Amuri Sands is situated on the ocean front with a view of coconut palms, a frangapani tree and a breath taking, picture postcard, stunning view of crystal clear water from the veranda. The accommodation is clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and user friendly. Mark is a helpful, non-intrusive host who supplied us with rain water and fresh bananas and pawpaws. He answered all our questions about Aitutaki and helped us to organise transport, food and other bookings. (When you see the price of food in the supermarket you realise how lucky you are to get free fruit.) I would recommend Amuri Sands for accommodation on Aitutaki. It was a beautiful experience.

Kia Orana Kate So glad you enjoyed your stay at Amuri Sands and Aitutaki. You managed to ride the scooter again after a long spell and you seemed to enjoy the experience. The bananas grown in Aitutaki are the best I have had anywhere. Unfortunately I don't have them all the time - the same as the paw paw. But guests are welcome to have them if there is sufficient. The views are amazing from the deck and change on a regular basis depending on the weather. Hope to see you again but I understand it is a long way from Western Australia. Kia manuia Mark

Needing some serious down time from work, we stayed at Amuri Sands for 1 week in early October. Mark, the low key, funny and considerate owner, met us as the airport and explained all the nuances to us. He comes to the property twice a day to clean the coconuts and other fallen items from the pristine property. He was unobtrusive, unless we needed something. He arranged scuba diving as well as offered recommendations for meals. He even had a local cell phone in case we needed to reach him for anything. We aren't resort vacationers, so the affordable, self-catering accommodation is what we were expecting and wanted. It is clean, had the appliances we needed and is in the picture perfect location. The photos illustrate how gorgeous Aitutaki is and the Amuri Sands location.

Kia Orana Alison and Gerry What a pleasure to have you stay with us all the way from Monterey. The ten days seemed to wiz by and I know you will be back for a longer period next time. Yes it is easy to relax and read and do nothing. I seem to recollect that you came with out any phones, computers or even a watch so that there would be no distractions. The sea weed departed shortly after you left however the gardens did benefit immensely. Thank you very much for your review and comments. All the best. Mark

Aitutaki was the last step of our 2 years' journey. Hence Amuri Sands was perfect to calm down after travelling a lot and to enjoy the island life. The owner Marc is taking great care about everything. You have a wonderful view from your balcony. Just be aware of falling coconuts if you wanna go down to the beach 😉 The garden is full of tropical fruits and you can even pick some for yourself. Thank you Marc!!! Adrian & Jenny

Kia Orana Adrian and Jenny You certainly managed to open the coconuts with ease - well done. Paw paws are in abundant supply at the moment as the current guests can testify to, along with freshly picked bananas from the property. Not to many paw paws when you were here. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and relaxed, especially after the long period of travelling and then going back to chilly Germany to a new job. Take care and hope to see you again one day. Mark

We stayed at Amuri Sands for 8 nights on the recommendation of our friends whom also stayed here recently. The booking process was smooth as the owner (Mark) responds to emails promptly. He was kind enough to arrange a scooter which was ready for us to use upon arrival! You do need some form of transport on Aitutaki as most of the restaurants and shops are quite a hike away. Mark also picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. As mentioned by other guests, there are only 2 units therefore the location is quiet. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. The unit we stayed in was very clean and well maintained. The beach infront of the units are perfect for snorkeling during high tide with an abundant of marine life. We even saw a giant clam just in front! The tide times are

Kia Orana Davin and Moi Thank you for that interesting review. It was a pleasure to have you both stay with us and the time just flashed by. Yes you are correct, a scooter is a good idea even though the island is only 7 x 2.5km it can seem quite large, especially when it is warm. Also, ear plugs can be handy but as you found after a couple of days you seem to adjust to the crowing which is everywhere on the island. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you next year. Mark

We spent 5 nights at Amuri Sands and loved it all. There is a lovely garden to walk through to get to the accommodation which is right on the beach with fabulous views all day and stunning sunsets. It is excellent value for money, private & quiet, yet close to places to eat etc. Mark (the owner) ensures the place is very clean and even the beach area is raked regularly. The coconut palms give the place a real Pacific feel, but beware of any falling on you! Unfortunately while we were there some “sea lettuce” seaweed was lingering right along this coast so even the beaches in front of the expensive resorts were affected. It wasn’t so bad you couldn’t swim. Mark met us at the airport armed with beautiful "ei's," a lovely touch, thanks. He loaned us reef shoes and

Hi Jane and Steve, Thank you for your compliments regarding Amuri Sands, the gardens and the accommodation here in general. We love our beach and gardens here, and it's always nice when guests appreciate and enjoy the surroundings. Yes, it is unfortunate that occasionally we get seaweed washing up on the beach from the lagoon. This usually follows a period of high winds and heavy swells outside the lagoon, so the flow on from this is the uprooting of seaweed that gets dumped on the beach. We try to rake it and clean it as soon as possible, but it can last a day or two which can make the cleaning and raking process a bit frustrating! I'm very happy you were both able to relax at Amuri Sands, and I do hope you will consider coming back again, perhaps in tandem with a visit to Atiu (as you suggested) for your next holiday in the Cook Islands. Kia Manuia Mark

We enjoyed a very pleasant 7-night stay at Amuri Sands from 10 August. The weather was a constant 27 degrees and the accommodation perfect for us. We found it clean, tidy and very well maintained. Mark is a great host and the garden and surroundings a credit to all his hard work. Nothing is too much trouble to Mark from a friendly airport pick-up to providing daily rain-water for drinking. When our lagoon cruise cancelled at the last moment, Mark organised an alternative that same day. We love the freedom we enjoyed on the island to walk for miles on the inland roads and the lagoon is the stuff of dreams. We weren't so keen on the roosters!

Hi Jill and Ian, It was great having you here at Amuri Sands. Thank you so much for your kind comments, and I am very pleased you were able to appreciate the lovely aspect of the gardens and our private beach here. And, yes, the walks around the island are quite beautiful, and do provide an ideal opportunity to see Aitutaki from all aspects, especially from the highest points. I'm also relieved that a last minute lagoon cruise was available to you, and met your requirements. I do hope we see you here again at Amuri Sands. It was our pleasure to host you. Kia Manuia Mark

We had an awesome 5-night stay at Amuri Sands, Mark is extremely kind and helpful and a great host. The place was extremely clean and what we loved most was the well-maintained beach right at the back of this place. We highly recommended staying here if you want to enjoy some peace and quiet and something less commercial!
