This is a peaceful hotel with super friendly service and relaxing atmosphere!! This is our third time staying at this hotel because we want to stay in a place where we can truly relax from the city, forget about traffic and noise! Sonia and Juan are amazing hosts and will try to make you feel at home! We are leaving now but dreaming about coming back!

Just back from 3 nights at the beautiful Hotel Horizontes. Very clean rooms with wonderful AC, very good for my partner who was unwell. The grounds are beautifully kept with many trees, flowers and birds. The owner, Juan, is proud of his salt water swimming pool and it is indeed a delight to swim in or enjoy the sun poolside. Typical Tico breakfast is included and it was delicious and enough food for half the day. Special thank you to Sonia who handles the front desk. She went above and beyond to help me when I left my phone in a taxi (and with her detective work, we found it!). Highly recommend this boutique hotel for value for money, quiet peaceful atmosphere and the wonderful staff. Pura vida Juan and Sonia.

The owner of the hotel is a really rude person. The swimming pool was really dirty and he didn't want to cleaned.I will never come back to this place. I even had to abandon the place becouse the owner was completly irrespectfull.

Response from Hotel Horizontes de Montezuma, Dueño at Hotel Horizontes de Montezuma
Responded Aug 20, 2022
Sorry for your bad expirience, though our recollection of the event totally differs from yours. This actually happened in 2019, so also surprised by the late and vengefull comment. In any case, your did not stay at the hotel , so "your sleep experience" rating is invented. Never got to try ourvspecial breakfast...

We really enjoyed our time with Juan at Horizontes. It’s a lovely hideaway a short distance from the village with only a small number of rooms, a delightful swimming pool and excellent breakfast. The rooms are simple but clean and air conditioned and great value for money.

What a find! This place is our fave accommodation in Costa Rica. Amazing salt water pool, tasteful rooms, quiet AC, and tranquil garden. And the cooked breakfast is superb! Best gallo pinto we’ve had so far. The owner and staff give guests the right amount of attention. We would definitely stay here again.

The Horizontes de Monetzuma is excellent. The hotel is an old colonial style with plenty of character. It has a salt water pool and is situated within a beautiful garden which is full of wildlife. It’s a spacious and calm oasis away from the compact and busy Montezuma centre. Our room was very clean with air conditioning and a balcony overlooking the gardens and pool. The breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica. Juan and Alex were great hosts, they were very welcoming and helpful. The only slight negative is the distance to the centre of Montezuma and the beach. It was a good 40 minute walk downhill and would take longer to get back uphill. But the taxis are cheap and Juan recommended a quad bike which worked out perfectly for getting around and allows you to see plenty of the coastline and surrounding area.…

We spent three amazing days at Horizontes. The hotel is a lovely colonial style building, and is impeccably kept, we had a first floor room with a balcony which gave great views across the gardens. It is a very peaceful retreat away from the relative bustle of Montezuma, with easy access into the centre by taxi for a fixed fare of 3000 colones. Juan and the team went over and above to make our stay as pleasant as possible, offering travel advice and providing a great breakfast daily. Would recommend sitting by the pool at sunset to watch the parrots come in to roost.

I almost hate to review this little jewel of a hotel in Montezuma because I don't want it to start being fully booked and unavailable to me. It is located a bit from town and I recommend a car. They provide a very nice breakfast but nothing more. The rooms are extremely nice and roomy. The pool is one of the most serene and relaxing places we have visited in years. I could just sit or float at the pool and watch birds, the occasional monkey and listen to the sounds of howlers in the distance. The two resident dogs are very sweet too. Don't book here if you don't like peace and quiet.

We stayed several nights here. The room was large, clean, and comfortable with a private bath. The saltwater pool was large enough to actually swim in, and situated in a beautiful garden. Breakfast was substantial and tasty. The biggest plus for this hotel was the staff, especially the owner, Juan. He really knows the area and makes excellent recommendations about activities and places to eat. He really watches out for and goes the extra mile for his guests! Cecilia, his assistant, was also very helpful. While the hotel is a bit out of town, the peaceful setting is well worth it and it’s easy to get to town by cab or by car.
