The hotel is conveniently located for this, but a bit far from the metro. There are however many many buses in front of the hotel. The park is not far on foot.
Restaurants around are so so (OK Japanese in front of the hotel).
About the Hotel itself.
This is a place that seriously needs some refurbishment. It is ancient. But still OK.
Staff is very helpful if you can speak Portuguese. There is only one person speaking english (a lady at the computer desk in the morning). So, if you have a problem, it may take a while (spanish is also not an option). But, they do try to understand you.
Rooms: as I said, they are old, but large enough and comfortable. BUT ... there are many buses in the street below, and they are very noisy. Since windows have single glazing, buses are in your room at night. Do not use the from rooms, i.e. numbers X-01 to X-04.
I started in 904 and quickly moved to 712.
The quietest rooms are X-12 to X-20. The best are X-17 to X-20. As always, the higher (11th), the better.
If you turn AC on, you will also have a bus in your room (obviously the AC is from the last century). hence, if you need to open the windows during the night, you'll need a quiet room.
Cleaning: It is random. They do come in the room, but don't take care of things, e.g. not removing used tea bags or replacing dirty cups. Even the sink was not cleaned everyday. But globally OK.
Breakfast: there is a big table on the first floor. More junk food than anything else. For example, why not giving fresh orange juice. This is overabundant in Brazil. But they provide from concentrated. However, there is fresh pineapple, papaya and water melon every morning. The rest is just average.
Wifi: access tends to be random. Sometimes it stays off during the week end. You have to go the lobby to get a connection in that case.
Overall, it is average average. Nothing special. I was there for work, and it did not bothered me to stay there.
Was pleasantly surprised by this value hotel. Reasonable prices whilst not too far from the city center.
The rooms are large although slightly aged. Nice unobstructed views from windows that can actually be opened!
The only minor negative comment would be the lack of pressure in the shower, and (although affordable) the fact that wifi was not complimentary.
Highly helpful and accommodating staff.
The area is very quiet (and safe) at night, as it is mainly comprised of hospitals and clinics. (very lively during the day)
The room was big, clean and well kept. Silent despite facing the street (on the 6th floor).
Wifi worked fine and the flat screen TV did so too though not all channels were available (i.e. BBC or Discovery were not).
Breakfast served after 6 AM was complete and is the usual fare in biz hotels in Brazil: fruits, yougurt, cheeses, ham, scrambled eggs, variety of cakes and bread. Fruit juice.
No complaints on the service or the cleanliness.
