High quality hotel in the best location in Kyoto – the centre of the city’s transport network. Bus and metro links to anywhere in Kyoto are on the doorstep, and the hotel is directly connected to the main rail station. Lively, fascinating food court and great shops nearby. Regarding the Granvia itself, it’s hard to list all the things about this hotel that are good: everything about the place is good.

If you can afford it, the Granvia Club floors and services only available at the Club Lounge are worth every penny. The service at this hotel really is flawless as you would expect it to be at any Japanese 5 star hotel. It was a delight staying here. The bathrooms are a little small when compared to other 5 star hotels in Kyoto but the service and cleanliness make up for any size deficiency. The location of course cannot be beaten in Kyoto as it owned by the rail company so you have location, efficiency and expertise in hospitality.

During our recent visit to Kyoto, we had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Granvia, an experience that surpassed all expectations. From its prime location to the exceptional service and luxurious accommodations, every aspect of our stay was truly remarkable. The service, in particular, was outstanding, with impeccably dressed women reminiscent of 1940s bellboys escorting us to our room and providing detailed explanations of its features—a charming touch that added to the overall experience. We indulged in a decadent dinner at the teppanyaki restaurant on the top floor, anticipating a typical "show" akin to Bennihana, but were pleasantly surprised by the sophisticated and entertaining atmosphere, far removed from any Disney-like theatrics. Additionally, the vintage-inspired bar adjacent to the lobby provided the perfect ambiance to unwind and enjoy a drink, adding another layer of elegance to our stay.

Excellent, convenient location! It's so easy to do public transport since the bus and train stations are also in the same building. Big room and complete set of amenities! Lots of shopping, convenience stores, restos and fast food also in the same building as the hotel. Breakfast had a lot of options and ok.

We had a mixed experience on our 4-night state at the Granvia and will likely pick a different hotel in the future. Location: as others pointed out, the location is perfect. Traveling around Kyoto or for a day trip to Osaka was a breeze being on top of the train station. In addition, having access to probably a 100 restaurants of different kinds right in and below the station was a huge boon, especially when you’re tired at the end of the day. It was also great to have a department store that is a part of the Kyoto station easily accessible. We ended up buying a Nespresso machine and capsules there for our stay (read below). The hotel itself is a sold 4-star hotel, not the 5-star claimed by Granvia and on many Websites. It’s a solid business hotel and nothing more. Service is pretty much non-existent. Our somewhat subpar experience began at check in where the receptionist spoke very little English, which I found to be shocking for hotel of this size and popularity. We booked a Superior room which I knew didn’t have a Nespresso machine, but I knew that their Deluxe rooms do (see the picture from their Website). However, the receptionist claimed that none of their rooms have Nespresso machines. Either she was incompetent, didn’t understand English enough, or their Website is misleading. I was hoping that maybe that could offer us the machine if asked (I’ve had multiple hotels in the past accommodate such requests). That’s why we ended up just buying a machine for our stay and leaving it behind. At $100 for the machine it was still WAY cheaper than booking their Deluxe rooms. The room was very comfortable and big, but definitely not something I would characterize as a luxury / 5-star room. The beds were comfortable (we opted for the Twin bed version), the sound insulation was great, and the shower was great as well. The blackout blinds worked as intended.

Mega hotel, above Kyoto station, a sprawling metropolis, wonderful designed station with all amenities Takes a while to navigate around, but fantastic access to transport links and bus station (which is often quicker than Metro) is right outside. Many Shrines and temples are in walking distance Breakfast buffet, lots of choice but a busy restaurant. I would say a business hotel, best asset is the location. Lots of hotels nearby that would likely give as good an experience. Easy to walk of the train and in to the hotel…..

Pros: Location, location! Very nice rooms. Very nice restaurants and buffet within the hotel. Cotaciel was especially delicious. Access to loads more dining options in the station. Attentive staff. Comfortable bed. Wifi was strong enough to stream. Cons: DO NOT PAY EXTRA for club lounge access -- it was very disappointing, not even close to worth the money (the concierge in the lounge was helpful, so were the concierges in the lobby). Long long corridors leading to more long corridors to get to your room (which is good if you want to get your steps in). Soothing lighting in the room, but not great for make-up application. Chairs in the room weren't comfortable for sitting longer than a short while. All-in-all, pretty good, but when I return, I'll try a different hotel, hopefully one with a REAL lounge.

PROS: 1. Conveniently located within Kyoto station 2. Large clean rooms with a lot of amenities 3. Accommodating and warm personnel. They have the initiative to immediately approach us to ask if we need anything when they see us going towards the front desk and during our check-out they automatically asked if we want them to keep our luggage. 4. Great in-room breakfast! We tried both Japanese and American set menus. Special mention to their croissant which was as good as the ones we had in the boulangeries in Paris! CON: 1. A bit of a language barrier during our stay: Case 1: Husband had an episode of epistaxis, I phoned the front desk if they could connect me to the clinic, the answer I got was "Ah! No clinic, no clinic. Sorry, " so I assumed they thought I had the wrong number? Or maybe the hotel does not have a clinic? Case 2: I called room service to tell them that we are finished with our breakfast and they may now clear our plates, the staff on the other end of the line thought we were ordering breakfast and told us that there is no more breakfast and we could check the TV for the lunch menu.

Super busy and popular hotel with views of the city, modern rooms and great service. After a bit of a journey by bus from Osaka Kansai airport, we arrived and walked through Kyoto station to get to the hotel. Check-in was relatively fuss-free; though our room was not ready yet. After lunch and a walk about, we made it back to the hotel and our room. Our room was on the lounge floor and we had lounge access. These rooms are modern Japanese styled; modern with a touch of Japanese flair. Rooms are good sized and gave us enough room to walk around without bumping into each other. We had a king-sized bed which was comfortable and the pillows provided were perfect. It did take us awhile to get the room temperature right. There’s a work table at the usual place by the window. There’s USB-charging stations at the table and on both bedside tables. The kettle is under the table. TV played only local stations with BBC and CNN for non-Japanese speaking guests. A single easy chair& ottoman faced out to the Kyoto hills. We had the Kyoto station side, but had no access to the balcony. There’s a sticker on the window stating that the emergency alarm will ring if doors are opened. The toilet/shower area is compact. There’s a single sink, toilet with usual Japanese bidet functions, a walk in shower and to the side, a bath tub. If you prefer Japanese-style, a plastic seat and water scoop is available. There are plenty of amenities available, together with shower gel, shampoo, Cao ditto we, face wash and moisturizer. Good amount of space around the sink for your personal items. There’s a fridge, kettle with tea and coffee options and beside this, a compact wardrobe space with enough hangers for jackets and clothes. There’s a 1 liter Tetra Pak complimentary water available. Extra water is chargeable. I used the gym and pool and access comes with the club rooms. Gym had a handful of treadmills and elliptical machines, a small free-weights station and a weights machine with three stations. Small but gets the job done. Also, since the weights area is small and nattiw, it gets filled up with 2-3 users. The pool was nice. Warm water in a heated environment. 20m in length, one can get a a good workout with laps done. I enjoyed the personalized service at lounge. Although limited in choice for breakfast, I could order my eggs and have it delivered to my table. There’s some hot food options and some cold items in the fridge. Pre-dinner drinks and snacks are worth the time spent here. Granvia Kyoto has plenty of food options in-house as well as in the train stations and surrounds. They’re a choice convenience stores nearby and plenty of shopping too. Being above the train station, it makes things super easy to get out of Kyoto or to visit a nearby prefecture. Service at the hotel is warm and very Japanese. Housekeeping Staff took great care of our room and made sure everything was just right. Service in the lounge was superb. Staff were all well trained and greeted us every time they saw us. Overall, a great stay at Hotel Granvia. Kyoto. Would recommend this hotel!
