Detailed Reviews
It’s been over a year since our family of four travelled to Yokohama due to COVID. We were quite impressed with the lobby and friendly service upon arrival. Check-in at 2pm is nice and allows time to check out the city and eat your way through Chinatown (couple minutes walk!).
It was our children’s nap time so we got settled into the room. In Japan there are hotels at which the a/c only blows warm/hot air during the winter months. We’ve been through this once before at a hotel in Karuizawa and had a horrible night’s sleep. After almost 2 hours of not being able to nap and the kids getting cranky due to the heated stuffiness of the room, we decided to just check out, cut our trip short to return home, and likely eat the cost of the room.
However upon hearing of our wish to check out, the front desk was more than accommodating and offered two separate rooms to choose from - both with actual cool air conditioning. Deputy Director Mr. Takaki Seto especially was beyond helpful and understanding of the need for our two small children to be comfortable. The new room was perfect and the a/c worked great.
After the nice stay on the day of check-out, we were about to leave our room, but my wife discovered she had misplaced a very important sentimental ring. We spent an hour looking in the room for it to no avail. Our son had the brilliant idea to check the other room we were in for the two hours the day before. Mr. Takaki Seto not only let us back in the room but personally helped us search for 20 minutes. When we couldn’t find it, he called the front desk to check if the cleaning staff had found anything. They had! Only in Japan. The irreplaceable ring was returned. We gave our effusive apologies to Mr. Takaki Seto for his troubles yet he apologized for our worry. His kindness was amazing and we thank him again.
Can’t say enough great things about the quality of hotel and the superb location. More importantly, the staff went well above and beyond. 5/5 and would definitely recommend!

Response from HOTELNEWGRAND YOKOHAM, お客様サービス / フロント オフィス at Hotel New Grand

Use a hotel new ground this time, and thank you very much truly. A stay at a hotel new ground is that I'm happy that you could be satisfied for us, too. Future, I exert myself by a smiling face so that better service can offer it to you. When coming to Yokohama, please drop in by all means. I'm waiting more than the visit to the hall center which is again. An answer becomes slow, and I apologize for that truly.

This is one of classic hotels in Japan.
You can feel historic story of Yokohama
from Modernization to recover from WW II.
Main building has such exotic atmosphere.
Of course harbor view and Minato Murai view from hotel room is great.
In this period if your plan includes breakfast, I recommend room service it’s offer no extra charge.
And I surprised ! GUNDUM moving.

I chose a single room in the main building for my 4-day visit of Yokohama. It was clean and spacious, overlooking the Yokohama Marine Tower. Staff were helpful when I had questions, and the location was great – right across from Yamashita Park, a quick walk from the train station, and very close to Chinatown, shops, and restaurants.
I enjoyed exploring this historic building (as well as the historic ship right across the street, NYK Hikawa Maru). My room had all the amenities that made my stay very comfortable.
I would absolutely stay here again. Loved that it was my home base while exploring Tokyo.

We had a fourth floor room overlooking the bay, which could not have been better. Any imperfections within the classic nature of the room were almost charming in a way. The walls were thick and we never heard the elevator nearby. Everything was first class and of course the hotel lobby and public spaces were classic rarity in Japan.

Just had a very good stay at this lovely Hotel.
Close to the cruise terminal and perfectly situated opposite the Gundam factory and the vintage liner . We could see both from our room.
We had bed and breakfast and the breakfast is in the magnificent Normandy restaurant. Very enjoyable and elegant.
The café in the hotel is certainly worth eating at and is very popular.
Our room was large and well fitted, but in need of refurbishment.
Insufficient USB points, and a message that you could easily overload the system if you use a kettle and hairdryer at the same time!
But what a magnificent historic building this is with wonderful displays of its history throughout.
Staff throughout are attentive and charming.
We did have one problem on our last day concerning out included breakfast. There was a huge queue and we didn’t have time because of our trip to the airport.
Room service was provided instead, but it’s worth checking in advance if you need to book for breakfast and to make sure they can accommodate you if you have a flight.
We would definitely stay here again. It is our hotel of choice in Yokohama. Some lovely shops nearby and of course a few seconds from Chinatown.

Sweeping sea views, historical building, location, location, location and the staff! Superb staff, and we encountered at least 2 dozen of great staff, all of them unitedly demonstrating omotenashi beyond many of the top ryokans we stayed in our travels across japan. We sent a bag days before arrival, and they kept it for us, no charges. Service and warmth beyond any city hotel I encountered.
Really uxurious hotel, ridiculously great value for the price we paid.

We stayed here for two nights. Rooms in the new tower have unimpeded views of the harbour, the rooms 1,2,3,4 all face the sea. The higher up you go the better the view. Other than the rooms mentioned rooms have a side view of the city. Very close to Chinatown so there’s a wide range of things to eat.

I had a wonderful stay. The room was big and luxurious with a stunning city/water view - much better than I expected for the reasonable price. The staff was wonderful, the location was fun (near the water and Chinatown). I'd love to come back.

We stayed in the Hotel New Grand for a week prior to embarking on a 10 night Summer Festival Cruise of Northern Japan. We originally intended to stay in Tokyo but because I broke my arm we decided to use Yokohama as our base. This was a wonderful decision given that it is only half an hour from Haneda Airport and there is an airport shuttle bus to Yamashita Park just minutes from the hotel. Unfortunately we arrived at 5.15 am and the first shuttle bus does not start until 8.40 am so we caught a taxi which cost Y7500 which included a road toll.
It is a 1927 hotel with a modern annex which has an adjacent tower with modern accommodation. The original building with a grand staircase is being renovated. The renovations are due to be completed in October 2016. Because we arrived at 6.30 am and the hotel was full we were told that our room would not be available until midday. We left our luggage in the baggage room and walked to Chinatown which was only a 4-minute walk away. We enjoyed a coffee in Starbucks in Chinatown and relaxed before returning to the hotel via Yamashita Park just across the road from the hotel. The waterfront is just beautiful with a waterfall, beautiful gardens and Yokohama Harbour. When we returned to the hotel at 11 am our room 803 was ready for us. The staff were all so helpful. The king sized corner room in the tower with views over the bay and Yamashita Park was simply gorgeous. We had been warned about the extremely small hotel rooms in Japan but that was not our experience. The staff supplied extra pillows, clothes hangers and a bath mat. They supplied us with Western cups and saucers and because there was an electric kettle in the room we were able to buy our own tea bags and milk from the nearby Family Mart Store. The mattress was firmer than we usually prefer. There was a ? silk doona, 2 bedside tables, a small round table, 2 sofa chairs, a desk with a chair. It was very clean and well equipped. There was a small TV but the English channels need to be reprogrammed each time to override Japanese voice overs. The fridge was a small, well stocked minibar and there were 2 complimentary bottles of water. The wardrobe was large with complimentary kiminos, scuffs, shoe horn, clothes brush and luggage stand. There was a washbasin in a nook and lots of thick face flannels, hand towels, towels, bath towels, bath mat and complimentary good quality toiletries. The bathroom had a bidet toilet with a bath with hand shower and rain shower overhead. There is free Wifi. The hotel is well located 4 minutes from Motomachi-Chukagai train station, numerous restaurants, McDonalds. There are several supermarkets nearby including a Seven Eleven where Westerners are able to draw money from the ATM. There are loads of restaurants in Chinatown and Motomachi "upmarket" shopping centre is nearby. Minnamato Mirae 21 shopping centre, the Red Brick Warehouse, Marine Tower, Osanabashi Cruise Terminal, Sakuragi Shopping Centre and Pacifico Yokohama are all nearby. Bus stops are just outside the hotel. There are beautiful walking paths along the waterfront and you are able to get into Central Tokyo on the subway in about 30 minutes. We bought the Pasma card for use on the subway. The Suica card is similar. They are a debit card which you put Y500 on as a deposit and then add credit to it as required. This enables you to just touch on and touch off as you travel and when you are leaving Japan you can retrieve your deposit and whatever credit remains. You cannot use this card for the bullet train (Shinkansen). This ticket must be bought separately if you have not already organised a JR Pass before leaving home. We had the buffet breakfast in the Le Normandie hotel restaurant one morning which cost Y2800 and 10% service tax and ? 7 and a half tax. It was OK but not worth the money!
All of the staff were wonderful but Yuko Ono, on of the concierges at the hotel was an absolute standout she helped us in so many ways! Thank you Yulo, we appreciated what you did for us! Also thanks to Mr Oyo.

No flexibility with early check in. After flying for 12 hours most hotels have some flexibility if the room is available, but not here. The cost is per hour and literally calculated down to the very last yen.
However there wasn't that efficiently to explain there would be a person hanging from a rope looking into our room while cleaning windows.
Very disappointed.

Thank you for your inquiry.
We have laundry service.
(Monday - Saturday *Except for National holidays)
And also there are some laundromats around our hotel.
(5-10 minutes on foot)
Thank you.
There is a direct bus - called limousinebus - it’s not a very frequent service though. So much will depend on what time your flight arrives. Look at the limouisinebus website and it will give you more details. The busses are easy to find. There’s also a YouTube video showing everything, so worth checking that out. Enjoy your cruise!
