The monastery Maria Hilf is located in the northern part of the well- known Black Forest near Baden-Baden. Enjoy a bike tour along the German-French bike trail with a distance of 56 kilometers through the bordering Alsace in France, the northern Black Forest and along the numerous beautiful and historic wine villages of the region. You can visit a lot of places of excursion in less than one hour by car. Looking forward for the cultural city Baden-Baden, the European city Strassburg or the Blck Forest Metro pole Freiburg. The monastery Maria Hilf provides for its guests 2 gorgeous churches, free parking space, a generous park in the courtyard, 9 meeting rooms, 1 dining hall and 77 simple but friendly guestrooms - partial equipped with shower/toilet.

We were caught completely unaware with this hotel booking. We went for a small concert in the town center for one night. I looked up Buhl hotels and this one was listed on Trip Advisor in the same grouping as some of the major ones in the area. It looked interesting--a hotel with a history, being a convent. We arrived at 4p.m. We called on the way, because their website said that check-in only went through 4p.m. and we would possibly be late. The woman who answered said that it was no problem whatsoever if we were late. When we arrived, at 4:01, there was no one at reception, so we called the number provided for assistance. A woman came down a few minutes later to check us in. Check in was standard: directions to the room, code to get in after hours, Wifi password, etc. We asked about dinner, and she said we would have had to pre-reserve it. Fair enough. We went to our room in the Anna House. This was absolutely bare. Two twins with comforters (I like if the beds have sheets, comforters and outer spreads which can be removed immediately). There were bibles of many varieties on the "desk". There was a bottle of complimentary water on that desk. There was no phone, no number for room service, no television. There was a "TV Room" upstairs to share with everyone there, but only until 10:00p.m. (Luckily we wouldn't need to argue over stations because we would be at a concert in town). Check-out time is 10:00a.am--12:00 for free and later for a fee. We were glad we didn't reserve a dinner because in their informational brochure in the room it said it was cold. I recommend that, for this property to be on Tripadvisor, they need to put in BOLD print, that it is a quiet property to find solitude, that is has NO TV and NO TELEPHONE! When you travel frequently and are used to 4-and-5 star properties throughout Europe, this is like a Hostel for college students, but with a far higher price. Stay a few minutes away in the downtown of Buhl.

I stayed here for 4 nights for a family wedding and it was an interesting place to stay! Big downsides were the lack of air con/fan (the room was very boiling with no way to cool it down) and also the breakfast being so early meaning by the time I arrived at 9am there was lot's of things missing which was a bummer. Also the room walls were very thin meaning I could hear anyone in the hallway and doors slamming etc.

We stayed in Kloster Maria Hilf on our way from Holland to Switserland. Buhl is conveniently located close but not too close to the A5 Karlsruhe-Basel. The city center is just a 7 minute walk. We had a room with private bathroom in the Anna Building. Both the room and bathroom were rather small but large enough for our purpose. The matras was a bit soft. It is a short walk to the reception were coffee and other drinks are available. Annex to the reception is the large breakfast area. The breakfast was OK with everything needed although mostly of moderate quality. Given the price this an excellent stay over place.

This hotel is a cheat. They charged twice on my card and now not responding. On the day of check-in I wanted to have dinner but they denied as they didn't prepare adequate dinner. Room was not comfortable, bathrooms were smelly.

This is an extremely beautiful monastery that is located within easy walking distance of the town centre in Bühl where there are plenty of cafés and restaurants to choose from. It is a far larger town than I was expecting and is convenient for visiting many tourist attractions in the vicinity, especially Baden-Baden. Indeed, the building, the outside grounds and the whole atmosphere make staying here a wonderful experience. I stayed here twice, the first time for 2 nights and again for another one night On both occasions, I had a single room with shared bathroom for €36 which includes breakfast and which breakdown to €28 for the room plus€8 for the breakfast, but there is no option to only take the room without breakfast though. However, on my first visit, my room was located overlooking the inside of the monastery and was very quiet while, on my second visit, I was given a room looking towards the road where the noise of traffic was constantly heared. The rooms were a good size and comprised of a single bed with a thick mattress and pillow, a desk on which there is a Bible, other religious reading material and an information folder, a chair to sit on plus a stool, a good wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a large wash basin. There was also a radiator to keep you warm in the Winter. However, the bed on my second visit was hard with an awkward pillow and it was hot in the room. The other room had a comfortable bed with no temperature issues which was why I returned. Therefore, I recommend you only take a room overlooking the inside of the monastery. There is a silence policy in effect from 10pm until 6am, but this didn't stop a Chinese guest staying opposite me on my second visit from putting his electronic devices on maximum volume, banging in the room and clearing his throat in the corridor. There is a buffet which is quite varied consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, various kinds of ham and cheese, various cereals, a selection of yoghurts, many types of bread rolls plus roast and a large selection of jams. There is salad and fruit to choose from as well as many types of tea and coffee. All in all, quite a filling breakfast. I was very satisfied by the first stay at this monastery, but dissatisfied by my second stay. I would recommend you only stay in the rooms overlooking the monastery itself. The only other criticisms I would make is that you have to wait a long time for anyone to come and check you in and there is no WiFi.

We've booked a room for one night to restore during a car trip through Europe. The booking process and the acceptance has been as expected: precise and well organized. The room was clean and in a suggesting environment. Due to the short stay we haven't enjoyed the peace and the silence you could experience in such a place. Even if you don't have or want to eat within the structure, the centre of the small city of Buhl is at a walking distance and provide a good offer of bar/restaurants. The only downside I've noticed is the missing wheelchair access to the main building where the lobby and the lunch room are to wheelchairs; at least, I haven't seen it. This makes the entrance a little tricky with strollers, as well.

I made an online reservation at a platform a few weeks ago, to spend one night at this place. They never told me anything about the check-in times. My flight was delayed so I was arriving late at night (about 23:00 pm). I wrote them an email to let them know. They answered me that the reception was already close. I tried to contact them on the phone but they never answered. So... I had to book a place somewhere else and pay again. Because they were clearly not going to receive me. I think it's fair to say that they left me on the streets. Of course they kept my money (usd 32). The platform also decided not to refund me. Totally shameless. Stay away from this place.

The first impression is how beautiful, praceful and well-kept this hotel is! So, I must mention here clearly that this hotel is for those, who want to have a break from everyday hustle and bustle. Obviously, being a monastery, you'll encounter a few nuns here and there around the premises, stumble upon a couple of priests/monks, hear some hymns after or during your breakfast time. But, you know what, those hymns, the birds singing in the morning, the church bells during the calm midday, the tranquility of the area, the beautiful garden/orchard, the water spring, the surroundings...they all make you feel like you're being healed from inside out! You don't have to be religious to stay here and enjoy the atmosphere that Maria Hilf provides. You just feel like you needed that, trust me! The German buffet breakfast is descent, the staff members are helpful, diligent and affable. (Don't expect them to talk back to you in fluent English though. Instead, make an excuse to learn some basic German, if you can!) The room was clean and smelled good. Dinners are served only when you book in advance via the information desk. Parking places are in abundance. And, for those who have a bad habit of snacking during the night, there is a vending machine and hot/cold drinks, all night long! Once in a while, they have some special evenings and religious programs but as guests, all are welcome. We did not have a single disappointing moment in Kloster Maria Hilf, but instead, rightaway we started missing it already the day we left from there! What more can I write!

Its a real convent, although the staff for the hotel are "civilians". The convent consists of many buildings. We had a hard time finding the reception in the dark. The room was clean and warm. No television. The beds were a bit sagging. Free and good parking. Breakfast was average. The religion overbearing, will choose a normal hotel next time.
