The idea behind our Bed&Breakfast SolSicily is to offer a 3-star service at an affordable price. The building, a palazzo constructed during the second half of the 19th century, and the interior of our B&B have been restructured according to an individual taste, without however disavowing the original characteristics of the era of construction.

SolSicily is very centrally located in what was once a 19c palazzo. It’s on the 3rd floor, and the only way up is a winding stone staircase. The trip up is worth it! Our host, Christian, a Sicilian native, gave us a very warm welcome. Our room was ready – a delightful eclectic room with a balcony, sofa sitting area, in room coffee and biscuits and a bathroom full of toiletries for our use. There was a guest refrigerator as well. Christian made us coffee, gave us a map and pointed out sightseeing and restaurant highlights in his very good English. Our hearty breakfast was laid out for us at our own table when we arrived in the breakfast room, with plenty more on the counter should we want it. Breakfast consisted of light and fresh croissants, flaky rolls, meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs and a platter of tomatoes, peppers and olives. There was a pitcher of water, fresh juice, coffee, espresso, cappuccino and various jams and spreads. It was the perfect start to our day. Our two nights at SolSicily was a perfect way to start our Sicilian adventure!

Amazing room! quiet, clean and beautiful with chill area, balcony and private bathroom. The B&B is very well located, near the center of the city and the train station or bus station. Breakfast is generous and Christian, our host, was very welcoming and friendly. He gave us a lot of advices, we enjoyed our stay at Solsicily !!

Characterful great value rooms in a family apartment. Friendly helpful hosts, generous and tasty breakfast selection. Area is a slice of contemporary Sicilian life. Yes, perhaps some less than salubrious individuals about but never a feeling of intimidation. A good location near to centre and within walking distance of lidos for swimming and sunbathing. We'll definitely stay again if back in Catania.

There is absolutely nothing to say bad about Sicily or Catania. People are great, friendly, interested. I've lived there for 5 years prior and visit as often as possible. Every 4 years or so. Excellent country 👍. So much to see & do. Travel around the island is easy. Great golf course, el piccolo on Mt. Etna, so many beautiful little towns, beaches, bars, coffee shops, deli's. It's simply the best place I've ever been. I like others, such as Antalya, Turkey. Mallorca. Torremolinos, Spain. Sicily is #1.

This is a traditionally Sicilian flat that has been converted to a B&B. The host family live above. Upon arrival it was a bit hard to see the gate to enter the property. Be aware that it is many stairs to get up to the B&B. Our room was nice and fairly big with a double bed, desk, chair, sofa and a small balcony towards the street. Our bathroom was private, but across the hall. Bathroom was big. The air condition in our room worked well and was not noisy which was helpful for me as I need to be in a cool room to be able to sleep. We had a small fridge in our room, but it didn´t work. But there was a common fridge by the entrance to the B&B that we could have used if we wanted. The breakfast was basic with local food which is nice. It was self service as no one were there all the time. When I booked the room I asked for gluten free bread, but the host insisted on giving me fruit instead of providing gluten free bread. Would have preferred gluten free bread, but fruit is good as well). There are prostitutes and immigrants in the area, but they didn´t bother us at all. They were just sitting around here and there in the street. We never felt unsafe and I don´t think a woman would be in any danger there either(that´s my opinion). The hosts was friendly and helpful. Location is good. Walking distance to most interesting areas in the historical part of Catania. There is also a big market every day few minutes walk from the hotel where you can buy every thing from fresh vegetables, cheese and fish to clothes and perfume. There is a small food store just below the B&B on street level.

We arrived to this hotel late at night due to a late flight. Unfortunately, we were greeted by prostitutes on every corner of this neighbourhood - and they were not discreet.... The hotel itself was hidden by behind an insignificant door and a long flight of stairs! The room also had steep stairs with a handrail that kept coming off. The room was not very inviting, and breakfast consisted of some sweet pastry and cereal left on the kitchen table for self service. In the end we decided to check out the following day and find a new hotel. I would not recommend as a pleasurable experience of any kind. Ratings here are too generous in my opinion.

This B&B was the best accommodation out of three places where we stayed during our trip. We stayed there for 4 days in October 2014 and were very glad that we spent our time there. First of all, we booked an en-suite double room and got quite a large room under the roof with a little private area outside where the bathroom is. The room looked very nice and clean, there was a bed, a sofa, a wardrobe, a table with chairs, a TV, air-conditioner and even a kettle! There is good wi-fi, too. We could also use a guest fridge. Secondly, Christian is a fantastic owner and host! He speaks very good English which was a relief in Sicily. Moreover, he starts by giving you useful travelling tips about the town and his own map. The only possible disadvantage is that the B&B is situated on the 5th floor without a lift. But when you arrive, just leave your luggage at the bottom of the stairs. Christian has a special device to lift the luggage, so he will help you. Wish you a nice stay!

I would love to give Sol Sicily 5 stars but because of my short stay I was not able to explore the location and feel it unfair to rate the area properly. But, for all other accommodations I think they were a very good choice for me. I am a solo traveler headed back home and needed a place close to the airport. Very good value for a comfortable, clean room with a great air conditioner! After climbing the stairs with my luggage the clean shower and cool room where very relaxing. Cristian helped with dinner options and information about the area. Breakfast was a feast of many selections that I enjoyed with another family in the large kitchen. Very warm welcome and a true Sicillan atmosphere. Do not use this BnB if you are wanting a cookie cutter hotel experience. It is much more unique and authentic! Highly recommend!

We only had one night in Catania and we booked the room mainly because it was close to the train station. The rooms are very nicely decorated and the owners of the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Just note that there is no elevator and SolSicily is located on the top floor, which means that it's not very handicap accessible.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 3 nights and it was a very nice experience. This is a very homey place to stay at. you are basically living with a really nice sicilian family. It is an authentic sicilian apartment converted into a couple rooms. On the down side the room didnt have the best lighting in the world and the bed was springy. Bathroom was good size. But most importantly the breakfast is GREAT! They have kids and the other guests are rummaging in the flat from the morning. So if you are here to actually do things and not lay around picking your belly button all day this is the place for you. Close to the bus/train station and ferry which makes travel convenient. So it isn't in the nicest neighbourhood and let's not beat around the bush, there are prostitutes ("working girls") in the neighbourhood. It grows on you though. The locals are nice and there is plenty of ethnic diversity. Don't miss out on the wine that comes from a plastic bottle for 3 euros in the little shop with the awesome clerk downstairs, it is not as bad as it seems! To conclude I stayed in a "regular" B&B in Palermo as well which had a nicer bed, was in a nicer area and they cleaned our room every day but had no character. A place like that will never be as rememberable as SolSicily.
