Really good location close to tourist spots, bars & restaurants, and transport links. Hotel was clean and we were happy with fridge and air con in the room. We had a rear room which was quiet and had a good size balcony. The room was quite big and had authentic Spanish decor. A few of the furnishings could do with an update and the shower was a bit poor, there was some noise out in the hallway on an evening sometimes, but other than that we enjoyed our stay here.

Booked a room here with shared bathroom to travel with my mother, they advertise it as a ''hostel'' but I'd define it as a budget hotel. The room we stayed on was very clean, convenient, it had a window, table, a desk, tv and a basin inside along with a small fridge in which you could store your food or drinks.

The bed was comfy, clean bed linen and a\c. I was really surprised with the quality, loved the design (old typical Barcelona style building) it had a lift. The staff at reception was extremely helpful and polite they answered all of our questions and helped us to book tours and activities I was extremely happy with them.

Even tough the hotel has got no breakfast/restaurant they offer free coffee and tea, however the hotel is located in a good area full of cafes, restaurants and bars.

The only downside could be the shared toilet/shower (which is clearly advertised) however the toilet is very clean and you are only sharing it with one other room, not with the whole hotel. My experience was good and the toilet and shower were always available and clean when I needed it so no complaints whatsoever.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel if you have a short stay at BCN.

The location of the propriety is good - about 10 minute walk to Plaza Cataluna; 20-30 minutes to Sagrada Familia.
We had a room with a private bathroom. The hostal is for a budget stay so the room was small. But it was clean and it had everything that we needed: a bed, a shower, AC (very important!!); and it also had a TV that we didn't use.
I finally decided to rate the propriety 4/5 because of the staff. This aspect is very important to me. They were friendly and helpful.

We Stayed in a Superior Double room. No 102. We had excessive Noise from internal sources. You could hear the conversations at the reception and the door buzzer for the external door to the reception as if they were in your room. Several times there were load conversations very late evening/ early morning from the reception area that kept us awake, after a while we knocked on our door and they stopped, so they must know how the noise travels in an old building. But the staff obliviously don’t have any considerations. The noise from the next room was bad as well with hearing everything including personal conversations and the loud noise from a shower/ water pipes late at night. After looking at booking details it says “Quiet hours” are between 22:00 and 09:00 this is definitely not the case in room 102.
The TV on the wall is the size of a laptop screen ,there is no English channels ,we do not watch TV generally when we’re away so not a problem for us but the tiny TV did add to the basic feel of the accommodation.
There were no Glasses ( not even plastic ones) in the room and no shelf in the bathroom. There was no plug for the sink and the light above the sink was not good for shaving.
The Wi Fi signal was not good.
There was only one bedside light switch on one side of the bed and only plugs on one side of the bed.
There were only 3 hangers in the wardrobe.
The plus side of the room was that the mattress and pillows were comfortable.
We know this is an old building but do not stay here unless you’re willing to accept very basic accommodation and a disturbed night / morning.

I got a room with view with big windows looking out. The location is also very centralised and we were able to walk to all major attractions from our hotel. The subway is also within walking distance. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's just looking for a hot shower and rest after a long day of sightseeing.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for four days, this hotel was so good for the money that we paid. We were central and just down the street from the underground station which was mainly how we got about. The beds in the rooms were comfy, it was clean and there was housekeeping everyday. The bathroom was also kept so tidy and had a lovely little window to view outside. I really did love this hotel it was cute and cosy, the room was small but it wasn’t an issue whatsoever. If I ever decide to come back to Barcelona I all stay again. Thank you Hostal Balmes Centro!

Good location, the reception is nice, but the room is poor, no fresh air, no sunshine, can not see outside, is hard to breathing in the room, let me feel dizziness and headache, I am afraid I will die in this room...and the toilet is dirty, have wifi but is difficult to connect, have heating but can't open...btw, if I can alive until tomorrow, I am sure I will never come to this hostel anymore...

We have stayed in superior double room, had a little balcony. Under our room was quiet loud street, but that did't bother us, you can sleep normally. We had shared bathroom, very clean, always when I needed to go it was free. Location is superior, we stayed in Barcelona for 4 days and beacuse of a great location we could do everything by foot! 24/7 desk

It’s around 5-10 minutes walking from Passeig de Gràcia metro station (depends on which sortie you take), and it’s a little tricky to find. Ring the bell to get in, and watch out for your head since the door is really small. The reception is on the first floor. Staff are really nice, and they provide you all information you need. There are free tea, coffee, and candies. The room is okay, cleaned up everyday, and has all of the basic amenities. The shared bathroom is pretty clean as well. The location is great. From there, you can easily walk to the centre, or take metro to go everywhere. One downside is that our door cannot be closed properly in the way that when it’s locked, there is a gap between two doors; hence, light and noise leak into the room from outside. Since many rooms share one hall leading to the main door, from my room, I can hear people talking, laughing, open/close the door, chatting on the phone, turning on music, etc constantly after midnight, which is irritating. From my point of view, after a long day strolling around the city, you get so tired and all you need is a good sleep to recover, but I could hardly sleep at all. It has nothing to do with the hostel, it’s just sad that some guests don’t know how to behave appropriately. Hope you won’t ever be in this situation.

Have a budget stay at this well-located hostal, which has all the facilities you may need -private bathroom, fridge, safe, a comfy closet, a desk and chair... And a great service! But do not choose room 114, since I got bitten by bedbugs, so this spoilt all the goodies... But Maria and Pedro promised to see to this asap, and I'll be back in 20 days ..., as it' s really worth giving them another chance ;)
