Went out for a family meal to the restaurant first time going here. Starters were amazing, service was a bit slow but understandable because it was busy. Problem came when the mains were brought out. 9 of us out for this meal and 4 had the beef burgers all 4 agreed that the meat was to dry to eat no one finished there meal because of the dryness. All other mains were lovely. When the issue was raised with management this is when we were met with hostility from the on duty manager who went on to blame us for not speaking sooner even though we weren’t asked how our meal was going throughout. Manager then went on to try and explain that the burger was dry because thats how they cook their burgers. The bad burgers aren’t the reason I wouldn’t recommend this place it is the poor customer service that has spoiled my view on this place that will now prevent me from returning.

Very good food and friendly staff however a few issues which needed addressing. TV in room had really poor signal, no attempt to rectify this despite my mentioning it a few times. This was really disappointing as I was on my own and wanted to watch TV in the evening. WiFi was poor and intermittent. Rooms clean but very basic, lumpy well worn pillows, very few electric sockets and faulty towel rail in bathroom. Domestic staff very friendly and polite.

We were stuck in Montrose because of the Storm and we were relieved to get a room. The check-in experience was easy and the room rate, which included breakfast, was a little steep given the quality of the rooms and service. The room was clean, bathroom could have been cleaner as there was a little grime around the shower glass and the previous guest's hair in the bath! The bed however was comfy, which was what we needed and there was a smart TV, so we could log into our Netflix account. We were told to go down for dinner before 8, which we did, and when we walked in there were 3 tables of guests and around 15 or more available. There was no signage to advise us we should wait to be seated, so we chose a cozy seat away from the door as it was so stormy. A waitress approached and asked if we had booked a table as if we should have! We were then asked to move from that table as she said it was reserved, however, there was no sign on it. We were given a choice of 3 tables, despite there being around 15 empty, and they were quite near the door so we chose the one furthest from it. The order was taken by a different waitress and there were no issues going forward. No one ever came to sit on the original table, and when a guest came down and asked if they were still serving, was put there. It seemed to me it was an issue with the waitress, great customer service in a small private hotel is what would ensure recommendations, so if that was my hotel, her manner would not be tolerated, and it has meant that I wouldn't go back for a meal. Breakfast was nice, and the highlight was the lady at breakfast who was really nice and chatty. I am giving it the rating I have because it was a pleasant stay, the staff was okay, and the bed was comfy. Not the worst stay or the best. I understand it is an older hotel, which they have mentioned in previous reviews that they are working through to make better, but if this is the case the customer service would be the thing that would give them the higher ratings, as people want an experience when they pay to stay at a hotel.

My uncle suggested this hotel and my husband and I loved it. Lovely big room,, great service, and wonderful breakfast. The wifi was strong (a necessity for someone teaching an online course when traveling) the bed was comfy. We would definitely come again.

Lovely wee hotel, very cosy and homely, a welcome change to the faceless corporates. Staff very friendly, fantastic breakfast (spoiled slightly by complaining South Africans on the next table😒) Would stay here again.

Spent a Monday evening here on an overnight visit on Business. The reception was very warm with no issues with friendly staff. My room was large and very clean with a walk in shower which was great. The bed was fluffy and comfy and was perfect post a 7 hour train journey from Manchester. I did try the food after hearing good reports, and they were spot on, and so was the food, with good portions and presentation. The George is a great place to try.

A Sunday night visit, oddly the waitress said there was no tables before the waiter intervened and said there was . Potions were huge ...Soup was tasty , but the roll was microwaved. Main was excellent and tasted very fresh. Cheesecake was a huge slab. Can we why it's so popular...all in all ... excellent.

Went for Sunday lunch, just 3 of us, booked in advance. The bar and restaurant were busy, fair enough. Drinks order was taken reasonably quickly, then we seemed to be forgotten. Eventually our food order was taken, then again we didn’t seem to exist. After considering going elsewhere, our food arrived just over an hour from ordering. Very disappointing and not sure we’d be in a hurry to go back. Staff were friendly, but obviously overwhelmed. Food was average at best!
