As one must have realised from the plethora of photos produced regarding this hotel- its location is second to none, tucked by the historic Chain Bridge; surrounded by the natural complements of water and earth. The aforementioned is undoubtedly the lone aspect that ensured this review didn’t fall to one star- this is unfortunately not an exaggeration. For starters, the ‘main’ parking space is debilitating- too thin for a medium sized car to turn around (got a severe ache in my neck after having had to reverse the way after realising this) with little in means of a barrier with the river; after deciding that the overflow was the best car park of both (since you are at less risk there with more breathing room), there were no signs of any kind to delineate it (never mind the lack of the Chainbridge on a sat nav!). Indubitably, the steps leading down from the overflow does naught but make one despair as, especially when surfaced in water like it likely so often is, when burdened with belongings, one is certainly at a pretty dire risk of slipping gravely- this discounts the experience for small children. which I do not deign to fathom. Linking sublimely with this is the fact that, in concordance with pictures posted here, the rooms are a ill-conceived health and safety risking awaiting lamentation. Even in the Chainbridge hotel suite (likely the most expensive room- over £200 for the night might as well go into some triple glazing for the rather noticeable sound of rushing wate ), there were no visible latches on windows, and the fact that I could, without considerable exertion, tip out of the bathroom window to my demise necessitates no further elaboration- let’s not deliberate the pitch black gangway for those entering and exiting to the car park once twilight has ended- even dim lighting would have sufficed! I will concur that the bridal suite was furnished well, featuring a picture of the location back in the Victorian era I believe, a beautifully tiled bathroom (that mirror!), enough storage space (though it wasn’t required for my scheduled one day stay) with a rather expansive balconied area outside- unfortunately it was inundated when I was there in July (enough puddles with the rain to dissuade any perambulation). Unfortunately, despite advertising it, I did not experience any WiFi connection, or phone signal (even on their landlines) anywhere, even in the restaurant area on the first floor- my evening was spent slowly dozing off to music video channels on the TV. Apropos to the aforementioned suite, the positives outweigh the negatives to a degree, though I did notice the shower was broken in my short stay!! I should find it fit to mention that I also bought one of the first floor rooms adjacent to the gangway for a younger member of my family. Despite initial appearances, it exuded damp and decay, not just in the wall facing the water, as it permeated through the entire room- the shower/ toilet room was not pristine, but at least the room was stocked with the complementary tea, coffee, sugar etc. As a result of this, my youngest had to spend the night with their parents in the suite and, although they slept comfortably on the large sofa, my money was whittled away on a room that didn’t see any use due to it’s uncalled for lack of attention. This would not have made an appearance on the review if I hadn’t been exhorted to pay in full as soon as I got there- it may have worked best during COVID, but what it ultimately means is less chance of a refund (which I did not receive)- hopefully this taken into account for the future. Perfectly correlating with the attentiveness gone into the rest of the hotel was that of the nutriments- granted I could only stomach breakfast, but that was more than sufficient. I don’t generally comment on food in general as it isn’t what allures me, however, the best word I could use to denote this is passing. The food was pretty insubstantial, seemingly pre-cooked, exorbitant for the quality, and that is if you ignore the fact that the server were officious in attempting to direct guests to the tables that had been allocated to each room, notwithstanding the fact that my family were down first by a period- after much boorish discourse, the attending staff member moved our menus and cutlery (did not supply us with any napkins, jam & butter or salt & pepper though). At least you are permitted outside when the front door is locked though should you require a smoke break!! In summation, I do not recommend you stay in this hotel- by all means experience the Falls, Canal and the Chain Bridge, but this accommodation is by no means second in all of Llangollen (not really much competition in any of the company hotels though)- hopefully the situation is ameliorated once it falls under Japanese ownership, I shall not hold my breath though. I implore you, go for a B&B over this any day.…
