Hotel Indigo Newcastle, part of the IHG group, stands out for its modern and stylish atmosphere, with many guests appreciating the tasteful decoration and vibrant color schemes, though signs of wear are apparent. While travelers are torn about the value, with some encountering unexpected charges, the hotel's location earns high marks for its convenience to city attractions. The rooms offer comfort with some boasting balconies, yet issues with noise, cleanliness, and maintenance have been noted. The staff is generally commended for their service, despite occasional inconsistencies.

Arrived to find reception area being upgraded (not advised in advance). Wet paint, construction mess and lifts out of order. Breakfast service which is usually fab was adequate. Room housekeeping was poor, floors needed cleaning and it was obvious cloths used for surfaces were not clean. Used to be a favourite in Newcastle but not this time :-(

Working in and around Newcastle so booked the Hotel Indigo. Good location with parking but glad I got there before 5pm as with rush hour traffic the local roads would made it challenging to find even with sat nav. Underground parking available but very tight spaces. Hotel very nice with friendly staff and comfortable and good sized room. Lots of bars in the area and a short walk down to the river. Ate int restaurant and pasta was very nice and chocolate brownie for pudding was perfect. Will stay here again if in the city. I stayed on Tuesday so assume at the weekends very busy location.

Room Tip: Car park very tight. In a city centre so during rush hour roads could be confusing.

Stayed here for one night. It was nice and cozy. No complaints! Very Clean and convenient to the rail station. There are lots of asian restaurants near by. Bathroom and Bed were clean. Easy to check in and staff were friendly and courtesy. Would stay again!

Stayed one night for a gig in the city and overall it was fine for one night. Check in was swift, informal yet friendly. Room was on the first floor and was comfortable but showed some signs of wear and tear - marks on the wall, stains on the desk but nothing too troubling- the shower was amazing! Hotel is undergoing a refurb, which wasn’t mentioned at the time of booking but I did get an email shortly after. There is currently no bar or restaurant available due to the refurb but it didn’t bother us as we had other plans. As it was a Saturday night stay there was no building work taking place. Location wise, it’s great. It’s not the fanciest part of town but is only a very short walk from Central Station. Lots of bars nearby (again, not the nicest of bars) and main shopping area a 5-10 minute walk away. There is parking available but we didn’t want to run the risk of not getting a space and having to navigate Saturday afternoon city centre traffic so opted for a nearby Q Park a few mins walk away. Overall, a decent enough stay for 1 night but nothing startling. Would possibly stay again.

I stayed here whilst working in Newcastle. The hotel is a really short walk from the station. The only issue getting there is, randomly for a hotel where nearly everyone will be bringing luggage, the entrance has quite a few steps. Certainly not great if you have heavy luggage. Checking in was super easy and quick, the staff were all really nice, welcoming and helpful. At the moment there’s a lot of refurb work going on so there’s no main restaurant or bar, but they’ve managed it really well. There’s still hot breakfast and pastries, tea and coffee, which you can take back to your room to eat. They’re available from a temporary breakfast station next to reception. I had a delicious bacon and egg bap with a side of fresh crispy hash browns. It was really tasty. I think this is a great option rather than offering no breakfast service. The room was really nice, very clean, lovely bathroom and comfy bed. There is some nighttime noise but no more than any other city centre hotel. I’ll be working in Newcastle quite a few times over the coming months and would happily stay here again.

We paid for the most expensive room, but it was still just like a premier inn room (but with a balcony). They commented that it had just been renovated - not sure if that was the full room, or everything but the bathroom. The downlights in the ceiling kept falling down (we did try to push them up), the shower floor was cracked and stained, there was splats of paint on the main bedroom floor, one of the side bed wall lights had a broken switch and wouldn’t turn off easily (had to mess about flicking it on and off a few times to get it to turn off) and the patio slabs were very loose on the balcony. They did ask us for feedback on what we thought of the renovation, so we did tell them about the issues and they offered us another room, but we weren’t drinking and aren’t smokers, so the loose slabs weren’t an issue. The back of the toilet was stained yellow and it was slanted (which is why I’m not sure if it was just the main bedroom renovated, or whether the cleaners just aren’t thorough). I’m only 5ft 2 and the bathroom mirror is also very high, so I could only see the top of my head which was a bit annoying. Good job theirs other mirrors in the main bedroom! I did however like that the shower controls are on the opposite wall to the shower head - no one likes getting drenched in cold water when it’s first turned on! It wasn’t all bad - they had Samsung tvs so we could connect to the built in chromecast to put whatever we wanted on and they have a complimentary mini fridge with bits in that was a nice touch. Staff all seemed lovely so can’t complain about them either. I think their biggest problem is we stayed at the York one first and that was is miles nicer! We’ve stayed in the Newcastle one twice now (although a cheaper room the first time), but both times been underwhelmed. The breakfast is alright too, can’t comment too much as the restaurant is closed due to renovations.

Stayed here in Jan for a couple of nights for a business trip and had a lovely time. The hotel is really central to Newcastle and prices are really good value. The staff are all really friendly (but who isn't in Newcastle? Haha). Check-in is pretty standard although I arrived at about 13:00 and managed to get into my room even though check-in is advertised after 16:00. The rooms are fairly standard although my room had a mini fridge which had a bottle of sparkling water in there, and was supplied with a bathrobe and slippers. These were in a drawer in the wardrobe and I wouldn't have known they were there if I hadn't checked all the drawers. Still a nice touch though. There were a couple of issues such as not having a remote control for the TV and the desk lamp didn't work on the first night. But all sorted by night two. Although housekeeping didn't clean half the room that day. Facilities were limited as the hotel was being refurbished and the bar and restaurant were closed. I was told about this in advance and told there 'might' be some disturbance. Breakfast was a serviced buffet and had to eat in the room but it wasn't a huge deal. The hotel has a car park at the back of the hotel, which is really convenient and the location of the hotel is great. It's fairly close to everything and I'd definitely come back again. The free wi-fi is pretty decent too. Other stuff: Room number - 239 Tea making facilities: Standard tea tray with tea, coffee and hot chocolate Toiletries - Shower gel, shampoo and body lotion in pump action bottles, screwed to the walls TV channels - Quite a few channels. Freeview I think but not sure In-room safe - Yes Internet - Free wifi throughout and works OK. Other: Renovations are expected for a few months from the start of 2024

Basic is an understatement. Booked in for 4 nights & got an email 2 days before arrival advising of no restaurant or bars but nothing when booking. Upon arrival paid for parking as per the signage yet reception advised if I had checked in 1st they could have saved me money… No signs in the car park to advise of this. 1st night in a king room found 2 single beds zipped together with a differing mattress heights so had to change to a standard room for the final 3 nights. No shower gel, no slippers and a used dirty dressing gown. All reported to reception I have a robe & slippers but still no shower gel and the dirty gown is still in the drawer, as I sit here packing the same clump of hair (not mine as I’m bald) is in the same place that was here when I moved in this room. Breakfast is a poor offering at the moment, grab and go choice of bacon barm, sausage barm or omelette barm with a drink & cereal bar or yogurt. Promised additional IHG points that haven’t arrived as yet. Wouldn’t recommend this place unless it improves greatly when the work finishes in a couple of months.

Aside from the great location, this hotel really doesn’t have a lot to offer. I like the Indigo brand usually, but this one didn’t represent an Indigo at all. In fact it could be a Travelodge, a Novotel, a holiday inn express - it literally has no identity. I don’t understand why hotel investors buy into brands and don’t execute them at all…this one may as well have been nameless. The hotel has no life in it, one of the lifts was out of order, there are literally no staff so if you need anything - prepare to wait 15 minutes before even having the opportunity to ask a member of the team. The furnishing in the lobby are all worn and in dire need of an uplift….just a general disappointment all round. To end on a lighter note, the bathroom was clean and rather spacious. Wouldn’t recommend, perhaps would try another boutique hotel in the city next time.

Arrived by car and was able to use the car park hotel for a reasonable fee; very convenient (although it was difficult to find the exact location of the hotel even using sat nav) - I had 24 hrs from the time I checked in which was handy as it allows some flexibility. Check-in was fine, although the reception staff wanted to do this using the minimum number of words possible. Had a room on the third floor which overlooked the car park so didn't have any external noise. I could hear noise from rooms while in the corridor and could hear talking/doors banging when in the room so not great sound proofing. The room itself was clean and tidy enough. The shower wasn't great and didn't give a powerful flow (tap was broken so flow came partly via the second (flexible) shower head). Aircon didn't work and my room was cold through the duration of my stay which admittedly was only one night so I didn't complain. Bed was clean and comfortable . Tea, coffee and biscuits were available in the room and there was a good size TV and reasonable wi-fi internet connection. There was a safe in the room to store things securely. The room decor was fairly modern and was clean and tidy enough. Amenity kits are available if needed e.g. toothbrush/paste but these have to be requested from reception - they aren't provided in rooms as standard. I had a deal with breakfast included and went down to the restaurant for around 8.30am and it was fairly quiet. It was a table service so I ordered a vegetarian breakfast but was served a full english which I had to send back - disappointing as the person who brought it to me was the person who took my order so should have known. Tried to use the in-room phone to call friends in other rooms, it didn't work. Reported this to the main desk who didn't really seem interested but did offer to call the room for me. Checkout was by 12 noon and was easy enough to do.
