I chose the St Marks hotel because of its location. I didn’t expect it to be brilliant due to the price but did expect basic cleanliness. On arriving we were allocated room 19 and proceeded up the stairs to that room. I was extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of the stairway - marks on the carpet and even a mouse trap on one of the landings. When we accessed our room, once again I was extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of the room and other aspects such as no plug in the sink, only one curtain which didn't cover the whole window, the window was filthy, holes in the bathroom door, stains on walls, marked duvets etc. My friend also cut her finger open when she put something on the shelf of the bedside table.

There's a lot that can be said about this hotel but I will keep it short and simple. Our room had MICE! Mice as in plural... We got a room in the basement basically and while I was in the room and my mom was taking a shower, a mice suddenly appeared and hid under the bed. We then got a room on the highest floor (no lift so had to drag our suitcases upstairs). Unfortunately we went during NYE so no other option for an affordable hotel in London. It made our trip awful as we were dragging to go back to the room and sleep. Felt dirty as well sleeping in the bed so I slept on clean clothes instead of the pillow as the whole room just felt dirty.

Great value for money for the location and a weekend night. Contrary to other reviews on here, I found my room very clean, bathroom had been very thoroughly cleaned too prior to arrival. Yes it’s a little dated and could do with replacing sinks, fittings etc but it was all clean and the shower was hot with good pressure. The members of staff at breakfast were welcoming and lovely. Food is simple and not a lot on offer, but for £37 for a clean bed, breakfast and in central London on a Saturday night, I’m not complaining. If you’re not spending huge amounts of time there, then it’s a decent place to get your head down. I think some people need to lower their expectations or spend another £150 per night elsewhere! Only real downsides were the heating was on full blast right next to the bed with no ability to turn it down so had to have fan on overnight. I also found the receptionist who checked me in a little un-talkative and not incredibly helpful, as I had to ask about breakfast times myself, location etc. But again, all in, can’t complain too much.

Avoid at all costs. This place is filthy. It needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. The carpet on the stairs is an absolute disgrace. Thick with dust behind bedside table, I wrote the word "dirty" in the dust. Mould in the shower, on the walls and fridge. Radiator corroded. Uncomfortable beds, no mattress or pillow protectors. Bathroom door "pieced together" Floorboard/skirting boards thick with filth. Massive chip in the bathroom sink. No running hot water in bathroom sink. Handles on shower doors tarnished and dirty.

I've read other reviews, my experience was not too bad, room ok, usual basic facilities, plenty, even generous tea / coffee etc., ditto shower gel, breakfast limited but you could fill up if you wanted, these limited continental breakfasts i view as a get you going / holdover until you get to a proper breakfast. After all, i only paid around 70 quid which ain't a lot in London. Room was clean, ditto sheets, shower acceptable, plenty hot water, usual basic towels, guy on reception friendly, the real test is would i stay here again? Yes. Though Earls Court is not in my preferred area to stay, i will keep it as a back up. After all, its basically somewhere tokip, shower and poo!

Before coming to the hotel I was a bit scared after reading the reviews, but our stay wasn’t bad at all. We were offered room on the 4th floor or beneath the ground level, we chose the top one (there was no elevator, but we only had carry-on baggage so it was ok). Room was small, but we got one big bed and one normal one for two people and the beds were really comfortable to sleep in. What was important for me - sheets were clean and so were the towels (they were new - very white and thick). The bathroom could use a renovation, but the shower was spacious and there was no water outside when someone was showering. There was a bit of dust under the beds, but other than that the room was clean. Breakfast included toasts, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, honey, milk, cereal, tea and coffee. It was ok, if they added some vegetables (cucumbers or tomatoes), it would be completely satisfying. There was one thing that bothered me - while eating breakfast you could see the kitchen. The ladies working there were using no gloves and putting out food for guests. One of the ladies was using her phone and right after putting it away she started taking out slices of cheese and placing them with her hands on the plate for the guest. She didn’t wash her hands or sanitize them, that’s not really hygienic! Other than that, our stay was really nice. Location was great, subway very close (two stops from Victoria station) , a lot of shops and restaurants around.

I remember once, in my misspent youth, attending a house party in a really area. The house was trashed, people were assaulted and robbed. Several visits from police throughout the night and morning. Yet. I would rather spend a night there than this hell hole. They should consider putting a shower on the street to clean you as you leave, because the place is filthy. I felt dirty just looking at the room, let alone having to place my body on the stained mattress. I thought I would try to distract myself from the filth by watching a little television. By little I refer to the size of the 15 inch TV. To be fair, it didn’t need to be big, as you are never more than a couple of feet from it wherever you are in the room. Ironically there is a tardis in Earls Court, the structure famous for being so large inside, despite its slight appearance. Because from the outside, the “hotel” look to be spacious, but somehow when you walk into your room you are transported in what many would consider a cupboard.
