We have recently returned from a week's holiday at the Toorak.

The Toorak and its neighbouring hotels in the same group form a complex of accomodation and facilities. The facilities are one of the best features of staying here. They include the two indoor pools and jacuzzi, the large games room including bowling alley and snooker tables, the Aztec Bistro and the Conway Bar. Without these I would not give the Toorak a score of 4 out of 5.

We had a spacious room with sea view. Whilst clean, the bathroom must have been at least 40 years old, and the dark wooden furniture in the bedroom has seen better days. The old wooden frame windows in our room could not cope with windy weather and rattled loudly enough to wake us up even when locked. Window frames in other parts of the hotel were clearly rotten.

A major problem is the insufficient level fo car parks. The various hotels in the group have several car parks, but all of them very quickly get full. On more than one occasion I had nowhere to park. I raised this with a restaurant manager (the only manager I could find at the time) but she could do nothing to help. This is not acceptable given the price paid to stay at the Toorak which includes parking. They have land on the site that desperatley needs to be converted into parking spaces.

The room was not cleaned throughout our week there. We were expecting this, but we were told when booking that our sheets would be changed once. They weren't.
We had to ask whenever we needed toilet rolls and clean towels, there was nothing organised to provide directly to guests without asking.

As other reviewers have commented, there is a clear need to invest in the fabic of the buiding. Buckets were left uder leaking ceilings, eg in the Conway Bar for the whole of our stay.

Bars closed at 11pm sharp. A lot of guests commented this seemed too early.

Location is good, 15-20 minutes walk to the town centre and very close to Torre Abbey and the crazy golf course, and easy to get out of town by car.

Hi Fomzine, Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us, I'm sorry to hear that you did not find certain aspects of your stay with us up to our normal standards. Our rooms and all the public areas have an ongoing refurbishment programme in place across the complex but as you can imagine there is only so much that can be done at once and especially at peak times of the year. Regarding the parking, yes we offer free parking on site but as stated in the brochure and online it is at a first come first served basis. We as a group decided the best way to deal with housekeeping requests was to have the guests come to us for any supplies needed, this was the best way to limit contact between ourselves and our guests. Guests are offered a linen change if staying with us for longer than 4 days. Regards.

Spent a day & a night in the Toorak hotel in Torquay Devon. Found the staff very pleasant and helpful nothing was to much trouble, room was very spacious and clean and well presented we also used the pool, sauna and steam room which were all clean & easily accessible and plenty of staff on hand. After our swim returned to our room to get ready for dinner was a varied menu and me and our partner enjoyed the meal very much it was all very tasty & well presented & in the morning we had a full English breakfast which we also enjoyed would say overall the stay was well worth the money we paid & would have no worries about returning in the future .

We have stayed in this complex over 10 times since my eldest daughter was 4 years old. There is much to love about it, with the pool, sauna, communal areas, games room, bedrooms, location and price. This time we returned with 25 of us for my dads 80th. Sadly the main thing lacking was Staff flexibility, consideration and kindness. We were made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in the restaurant when we asked if we could have the tables in a more family friendly manner, the answer was a flat no before giving any thought to our request. They hung over us when we had finished eating so we felt pressurised you leave. My parents requested to stay for one extra night but this was made impossible as the computer won’t allow ‘single night’ bookings!!!! They then tried to charge them for an extra night even though they didn’t stay as they were told they couldn’t! The one thing they did allow us to do when we asked, was to use a room to cut the cake and take photos. We had a brilliant time and made the most of our stay. I am not sure we will be back again but will always have fond memories of our time’s there,

My son and I stayed for a long weekend in a,twin room on the 1st floor. The check in was quick and easy and the receptionist was friendly and helpful especially as it took 2 trips back to reception before our room key worked. They blamed the sanitisers used to clean the keys. The room was large and clean but very dated and tired looking and stifingly hot. We opened the 2 large sash windows which overlooked the children's playground. We had a small roof directly below us with some discarded rubbish on it which was slightly off putting.

Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and the servers were friendly and efficient but most wore their masks below their nose which is not right. Perhaps face shields would be more comfortable for them.

The whole hotel is very tired looking and in need of modernisation. Our room had scratches and dents in the furniture and the bathroom mirror was very mottled. The indoor pool however was very good and although we didn't always get the time we wanted we did get a slot every day.

The location is great, near the beach and harbour and great restaurants and cafe's.

The amenities for young families seemed good although we didn't need it the children seemed to love the outdoor pool.

So, as our substitute holiday it wasn't all bad, great staff and location, just needs modernisation.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my best friend to celebrate a special birthday! We had a riviera room which was spacious and clean. Yes some of the decor is tired but the beds/linen are spotless and very comfortable.
Lots of wardrobe space and all the equipment you need for a couple of nights. When we needed more towels or tea/coffee the reception staff were more than happy to provide plentiful replacements. Breakfast was table service and served by attentive and friendly staff. Large portions of everything and served hot and tasty.
We both had a treatment in the Aztec spa, my friend a full body massage which she said was amazing and I had a facial from Magda. Sublime! Fabulous Elemis products and Magda was delightful and very informed about skin care.
The best part of this hotel is the staff! EVERYONE was so friendly, informative and responsive to any queries.
From a Covid safety perspective all staff wore masks, sanitiser was available throughout and one way system was in Place. But we didn’t feel uncomfortable at any point, in fact we were made to feel very welcome.
Management should feel very proud of their front of house staff thank you for a lovely stay.

Despite the current situation, the Toorak hotel and its staff have shown excellent care and attention to the social distancing measures. The one way systems are clearly marked also and hand sanitiser was always available for use.

Health and safety prevented the use of the spa and swimming pools currently but it did not affect our enjoyment of being here.

All staff were excellent and we were well informed throughout the holiday.

Looking forward to seeing you next year.

Stayed at the 3* Toorak Hotel between 17th - 20th January 2020 . We arrived as a coach party early afternoon and checked in. My wife and I were allocated room 212 located on the 2nd floor. The room was very spacious with a large king size bed and two single beds. There was also a wall mounted TV, large double wardrobe with hangers , large dressing table with adequate drawers and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. There was a seperate shower room with toilet. Complimentary soap also supplied. The room was nicely decorated and the king size bed very comfortable. The room also benefited from a sea view.. .We were allocated specific tables for dinning which we kept for the duration of the weekend. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful. My wife has Gluten intolerance and was given a seperate menu. The staff were most helpful in advising regarding her food choice. The main menu choice was varied and food tasty and hot.
The bowling facilities were very good with competitive games played on Saturday and Sunday.
To summerize: All staff were friendly, efficient and helpful.
The bedroom was clean and comfortable , however the only negative points regarding the room was not very warm and quite a chilly room. The room heater appeared to be only about 30% efficient.
The windows were constantly wet and marred somewhat the seaview.
The negative points did not distract from having a brilliant weekend and the weather was excellent for the time of year. .

Just returned from a three night-stay at the Toorak and was very happy overall. The TLH complex of which the Toorak is part of clearly takes Covid seriously, guests are required to were masks at all times in all communal areas. I didn't see anyone not adhering to the rules. There were signs reminding guests, as well as floor markings with a one-way system in place.

Owing to the pandemic, breakfast was table service only. There was no problem with this as staff took orders and food arrived promptly. It was standard hotel fare and was fine.

The 'Riviera facing double' was a large room with two full sized single beds put together. The first thing noticed was that it was very clean with no dust visible, stains or anything else. This would be important any time but even more so during the current circumstances. The only things in the room I'd change would be to have a fridge, plug sockets near the bed, and a shower with greater water pressure.

I used the pool every day, for which you have to book a one hour slot. Some slots get busier than others but it was never fully booked, probably due to being out of season. The pool area and changing rooms were clean and I thought the Aztec Bistro was good. The food was decent and it had a nice view overlooking the pool.

Overall apart from a few minor things in the room I wouldn't have changed much, maybe get some new carpet in corridors as it's a bit faded, but it was a very good stay. I'll definitely go back.

We bought a Blues Weekender package via Boogaloo Promotions for last weekend and it was such a lovely event in a lovely location. We danced to our heart’s content every day and night!

Event was so well organised with incredibly awesome Blues bands from all over England and Italy too. There were afternoon short acoustic performances with 3 nights of double headliners bands performing till midnight followed by a jam session in another room which was lovely too. Mornings there’s the Blues cinema playing right through after lunch.

We had half board of breakfast and dinner included and sat at same designated table throughout our stay which was a very nice arrangement as we made new friends and had lovely chat each time.

Abbey Restaurant looks to have adequate staff working efficiently especially when restaurant is in full capacity. Meals were served warm so that was good and we dropped a £20 towards their gratuity box outside. Staffs really did work hard last weekend for around 170 of us!

We had a lovely time exploring the indoor and outdoor pool and I had a swim one morning and laze on deck chair after.

Just to note that our room though standard was very spacious but there’s no shampoo or conditioner, just a bottle of multi use liquid for hand and body wash so best bring your own. We brought some fruits and juice and was disappointed to note that there’s no mini fridge or bar either so do note not to bring anything that needs refrigeration.

Overall a lovely experience though one of our key cards stopped working twice and had to be replaced on day 2 and 3.

Hi jayceek2013, Thank you for taking the time to leave us with a lovely review. We are so pleased to read you had a lovely time away with us and Boogaloo. It’s great to hear you the team in the TLH Toorak Hotel restaurant looked after you and such a large group efficiently. The weather during the Boogaloo weekend was great, so we are delighted to hear you could make the most of the deck chairs and around the pool in general. We apologise that the key cards stopped working during your stay. Sometimes, the magnetic strip on the back of the key card can be disrupted when close to a mobile/electronic device. Our teams on reception will of course be happy to provide you with a new one in the event this does happen. Thanks again for a great review and we hope to welcome you back in the future.
