We decided to stay a night in a country pub and selected the Wellington Arms on the basis of a review in the Telegraph. It was very complimentary about the food and the rooms. We weren't disappointed on arrival as the welcome was warm and friendly as we checked in. We had a very comfortable room with tea/coffee with some shortbread and a huge emperor bed with a lovely goosedown duvet. A decent sized bathroom with good lighting and mirrors. They have considered everything with one exception...the rain shower is great, but they don't provide a shower cap which means a tricky shower for those of us who don't want to get their hair wet, something to think about. Underfloor heating keeps the room very cosy (the heating system is not easily adjusted, but it was warm enough). We had dinner in the restaurant where the service was again friendly and attentive. The menu provides a good choice of dishes, plus starters and nibbles to choose from. I would advise that you don't get carried away (easily done) as the prices are fairly high. The quality is excellent of course, but vegetables are extra at £4 to £5 each (a small bowl). One very annoying point...only discovered when the bill was given at the end....they charged £1 for butter which I think is quite unnecessary. The said butter arrived at the table after we had finished our starters and so we barely had use for it. We certainly didn't ask for it and so I think the charge was disappointing. (I think you are allowed to be picky if you are the paying customer) Continuing with the meal... the dessert choice was equallly as good as the main courses plus cheeses galore. Anyone with an average appetite will be very full! Breakfast was ordered the evening before..before we had even ordered dinner. The food at breakfast was excellent, served with sourdough bread, jams and marmalde (all homemade I understand). Each table has a toaster so you can choose to have bread or toast it yourself. We were surprised to note that there was no fruit juice offered, we asked for it and we were charged. I am not sure why they don't include it. The Wellington Arms tries very hard and succeeds in providing a very comfortable place to stay and eat. The staff and owners work hard and the place is clearly very popular and well known in the area. It isn't cheap, but the quality is high. The couple of things I have pointed out are fairly minor, but can easily be dealt with.... a shower cap, free butter and fruit juice at breakfast?

An excellent lunch in the country side. Of the four of us, most ordered from the simple lunch menu ( two or three courses). We started with some well prepared mixed drinks and each had a pleasant starter (I enjoyed the onion soup). A nice red wine and mains were next. I loved my cheese souffle and my wife equally enjoyed the sausage dish. The house made sourdough bread was also a great start to the lunch. The Wellington is a relaxing and quaint setting, but I was told told that the gardens in the summer add to the visit even more.

Like an earlier reviewer I am writing this based on my whole experience as an overnight guest.
Overall there were many positives but also one or two niggles, which when taken into consideration do affect my overall rating. When booking I was looking for a gastro-pub with accommodation. Having stayed in such places before I find that they offer the best of all worlds.... great food with a nice pub atmosphere to enjoy (far better than a 'sterile' hotel bar) and a short distance to go to bed at the end of the evening.
I'm afraid that The Wellington Arms only fully ticked two of those three boxes for me, as the pub aspect is a bit lacking.
Yes, the building is an old pub and the decor and character remain, BUT there are just two bar stools at a very small bar space (the rest of the bar has been devoted to various items you my wish to buy). In fact the owners have squeezed as many tables in as possible. So I was a little disappointed that there were no comfy chairs to sit in and enjoy post dinner drinks; thankfully I had booked a premium room (£220 for one night with breakfast for two people) which had sofas. We really enjoyed our dinner and the food was very good indeed, as was the service throughout our stay and as was our accommodation, those aspects are hard to fault.
At dinner we noted that breakfast was only served from 09:00 - 09:30, which we thought was rather a small window. We also noted that you had to pre-order your breakfast (we'd not even ordered our dinner at this stage). In addition to pre-ordering we also noticed that items you would normally expect to be included (such as a glass of fruit juice and other items) was charged as extra. So, we placed our orders for breakfast, thinking we could come down sometime between 09:00 and 09:30 but we were asked to specify whether we wanted breakfast at 09:00, 09:15 or 09:30.
We found this a bit too restrictive given we had come away from home for an evening in order to relax and celebrate my wife's birthday. NB, If your stay doesn’t include breakfast (or you are not a residential guest) you can purchase it at £20 a head. As nice as our breakfasts were, if I was asked to pay £40 for two plates of food, coffees and some bread & preserves (there was a toaster on each table so you cold make your own toast) I'd feel justified in thinking I'd been a tad overcharged. After breakfast we returned to our room to finish packing and check out. My wife was going to make herself a cup of tea whilst we did this, but the tea tray had been whipped away whilst we were in breakfast; which did give the impression they want you out asap. All in all it was a varied experience, some excellent aspects and some not so. We do enjoy staying at Gastro-Pubs with nice accommodation for the three key things that they offer as opposed to a hotel, but sadly The Wellington didn’t quite match up for all of them.

In Hampshire, near Berkshire, the Wellington Arms is a perfect address in many aspects. Nice rooms (we tried the Apartment and The Hayloft). Good beds (high quality for the mattresses, linen, duvet), nice bathrooms (with very good cosmetic products). The Hayloft is probably smaller in reality than on the pictures. But these two rooms are lovely, very comfortable, spotless everywhere and furnished with style. We must not forget either the small daily attentions, such as home-made shortbreads. The breakfast was really delicious, very well cooked with high-quality products (including bread). We did also dinner twice in their restaurant and it's been a real pleasure twice. Friendly staff, wonderful building, excellent food, nice accommodation: what more could you ask for?

This is definitely one of the nicest places I've ever stayed at. They take such care over the details and have very high standards both in the accommodation and the food. The grounds are also delicious and after a quick stroll you soon realise that much of the food they serve is home grown. Small but perfectly formed!

I stayed at The Wellington Arms the night before my wedding, with my grooms party and their respective partners. James, Sheila and the team were fantastic in ensuring every detail was perfect. Upon arrival, we were shown to our rooms which were beautifully decorated and luxuriously appointed. We all agreed it was a shame we were only staying for one evening. Supper was delicious, seasonal and local produce at it's best. We decided to opt out of dessert and instead sat in the beautiful gardens with a bottle of champagne to enjoy the splendour of the gardens. The beds are incredibly comfortable - even the night before my wedding, I slept like a baby which is no mean feat! Breakfast in the morning was restful, timely and the team were attentive without being intrusive. Fresh eggs from hens in the garden and home made bread feature on the breakfast menu. I cannot wait to return to this special place.

We spent only one night at the Wellington Arms in Baughurst, England, and will make sure that we return as soon as possible! The accommodation was absolutely excellent, with every one of our needs fully anticipated. The bedroom was very comfortable with beautiful views over the countryside and an excellent bathroom with good quality toiletries. The room had a selection of lovely teas and fresh milk in the fridge. We also had a Nespresso coffee machine (with coffee pods provided) and the fridge stocked some lovely wine and a choice of both dark and milk chocolates. The dinner at the Wellington Arms was absolutely superb, using fresh herbs and vegetables from their beautiful gardens, and one could buy bags of herbs, bread and freshly laid eggs to take home with us. Their breakfast the next day was equally excellent, and a beautiful way to start the day. The service was fantastic, and when we arrived back in our bedroom after dinner, there had been a turn-down service and the bathroom cleaned. This is a gem in the North Hampshire countryside!

First, the great bits. We stayed for two nights in The Barn - romantic room, lovely linen, terrific toiletries, superb shower (OK - enough alliteration). Fresh milk in the fridge, home-made shortbread. The room is a tidied whilst you have breakfast and the bed turned down whilst at dinner - lovely touch. The food is excellent - I had the most tender and tasty pork loin I've ever eaten. Everything high-quality, with excellent Front of House Team. Now, the downsides: It really is a restaurant - there are no cosy chairs or sofa to sit and read with a drink (and there is no room in the bedroom for armchairs), which, as a resident, limits your options. You won't find a local supping on a pint of the (excellent) ale at the bar as there's no room (some might think that this is a "Good Thing too"!). The main downside is breakfast - which you have to order the night before whilst still replete with dinner (not a good time to be contemplating what you might like the next day). It is only served from 09:30, which is pretty late if you're planning to explore the area. My main issue is that I have NEVER been to a B&B/hotel that doesn't offer a selection of cereals, juice, fruit, yoghurt etc - everything apart from the plate of food you've ordered is extra, even an orange juice! I don't think this is acceptable. So, all-in-all I've only given 4*. Is it all worth it? Well, you certainly need deep pockets - one light lunch (two starters), two dinners (albeit one the New Year's Eve special) for two, the cheapest (but good) bottle of wine, a few drinks (and the breakfast orange juice!) came to over £390. So £710 for two night's bed and board it is not exactly a bargain, and, to be honest, I have found many other establishments that offer better value.

The owners, Jason & Simon have this nailed! We stayed here for a two night stay for my birthday. Everything is perfect. Everything is 'high-end'. Fantastic accommodation, lovely oak beams, wonderful bed, really comfortable. Great wet room style shower. Food is amazing really top class and the full english breakfast is a must try. Staff are very friendly, helpful and attentative. If i had to find a negative ( and it would be a struggle) is that the prices are a little high. Anyway you must go here it is a must!!!
