We didn’t stay here, only had the kaiseki dinner. Saw an ad for it, only cost JPY 3300 for the kaiseki dinner, which I thought was a pretty good price. It was not disappointing at all! Traditional and had lots of local produce, and we were full at the end. They also didn’t mind our kids shared the food instead of making additional bookings. The dining room was beautiful and had screens between each table so we had privacy. The only thing negative was most of the food was already laid on the table so it was a bit confusing for us, which one to eat first (is there an order at all..?). The lady owner was also friendly and gave a very warm welcome.

I stayed here for a total of 3 nights for a snowboarding trip. In terms of location it cannot be more perfect - it is a short walk to the start of the Yu-Road, the moving walkway which gets you to the base of the ski fields. This is a family-run ryokan which in some ways is more like a minshuku. The owners are friendly and reply to your email quickly. The room I had was spacious and comfortable for two people with ski gear. The onsen was small but nice and hot. There is a separate area on the ground floor for ski gear storage. I only had breakfasts at the ryokan, and I thought it was hearty and good value. Do note that this ryokan is rather old-fashioned with furniture and design from the 1960s, so do not expect a fancy, posh ryokan! I think this ryokan is good value, but do note that if you stay in a minshuku further down the village it will be a lot cheaper. You will be paying for the location if you stay here.

All it takes is one visit to this wonderful traditional hotel, and you will do doubt make a return visit. This year was out third and not the last, looking forward to 2020. Ko, her husband and family, not forgetting to mention Mr Grumpy the cat, are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them to ensure your stay is perfect. The breakfast is just what is needed for a day on the slopes and if you are eating your evening meal at the hotel, you will not be disappointed, they have a wonderful chef who serves amazing food with so much care. Cannot say enough about the experience of staying at "Kirya Ryoken", it is excellent.

Kiriya Ryokan was the perfect choice for our group of 4 friends (late 20s) on a ski trip in Nozawa Onsen. First of all, the location of the ryokan is perfect -- very close to the moving walkway to the slopes as well as near the center of town. In addition, there is an outdoor onsen right next door. Here is what we loved about Kiriya Ryokan: - The rooms were great. We had the Japanese/Western style which had a great blend of the traditional Japanese vibe but with a slightly more familiar bed style. I was originally worried about noise, but our room was completely silent. We all slept like rocks all 4 nights. - Ko was incredibly helpful and runs the ryokan extremely well. Small touches like snow boots for guests to wear outside if their shoes are not sufficient in the deep snow. She also helped us forward our bags to the airport which we really appreciated. - The onsen was great, we loved trying all the onsens in town but I found the Kiriya one to be the most refreshing. - We really enjoyed the Kaiseki dinner! Overall we just felt incredibly comfortable in the ryokan the entire stay. We stayed at other well-reviewed places on TripAdvisor but this was by far the best. I wish all of our lodging for trips be like this!! Thank you Ko!

Kiriya is a total delight. A traditional beautifully maintained Ryokan perfectly located at the in the village and close to the Yu road. Hostess Ko is superb! Looked after all of us (big group) beautifully. Rooms were spacious and traditional. Breakfasts were yum (choice of western or Japanese) Ko looked after lift tickets, sourced some when ours got lost, looked after dinner reservations and provided an incredible banquet (& birthday cake!)for my son Will's birthday - one he will remember for years to come. Thankyou Ko your service and Ryokan were truly magnificent. Perfect for families or couples. Also the onset every morning and night in-house was magic!

We travelled to Nozawa Onsen during the third week of December and had a wonderful stay at Kiriya Ryokan. Ko-san was a great host, always cheerful and approachable. Nick was also very friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautiful and large for my family of 4. We had breakfast everyday at the ryokan and could choose between Western or Japanese selection. For dinner, we could choose between kaiseki, shabu-shabu, sukiyaki or udon/soba dinners. The kids loved the shabu-shabu dinner they had on the first night and ordered that again. The adults had kaiseki dinners on 2 nights. The dinners were excellent and a highlight of the stay. There was a nice quiet onsen in the ryokan which the family enjoyed after a day of skiing. The location of the ryokan was just a short walk (<5 mins) to the moving elevator which brings you up to the hikage ski slopes. It was also located close to all the great food places and shops around town. Do check out the hot steaming buns which were a treat after a cold day on the slopes. All in all this had been an excellent stay and probably one of the best ryokans we had stayed so far from our last 4 visits to Japan. It’s definitely top of our list when we next visit Nozawa in future!

We have a group of 5 family with 9 kids for 6 nights. The owner was very accommodating even though our kids were out of control sometimes. 1) Location is fantastic right opposite the OGAMA Onsen where the locals cook their eggs. 2) Travellator to ski resort only a short walk away 3) Near enough to the main town with lots of restaurants but far enough to be secluded 4) We had dinner in Ryokan on 1st and last night. food was fantastic

Kiriya was an excellent traditional Japanese accommodation & food experience ; we enjoyed very much , located close to the travelator to the snow field. Ko - the Ryokan owner was extremely accommodating & very helpful with our travel arrangements & all our questions. Our traditional Japanese suite was large & beautifully detailed & had great views. A very memorable 7 day experience & the town had lots of charm.

We didn't stay here but booked a dinner at the Kiriya Ryokan for the family. The kaiseki and sukiyaki dinner menu was wonderful and we really enjoyed the meal as we didn't stay at a traditional ryokan and wanted to try a traditional dinner. Owner was very friendly and the Ryokan has a very homely feel - definitely a place we would consider if we wanted to try a Ryokan the next visit. Menu was reasonably priced for the dinner. You have to book the dinner in advance.

Fantastic location close to the restaurants and shops in town and an easy walk to the Yu Road moving walkway to the slopes. The ryokan has a lovely atmosphere and great staff happy to help with anything you need- no language difficulties here! Dinners were great. Make sure you have at least one. The in house onsen is also really great- a good way to relax after a day on the slopes (but don’t wear your jewellery...my silver turned a bronze colour... which was a bit of a shock but fortunately easily fixed!! Something to do with the sulphur in the volcanic water). Nozawa itself is a lovely town with loads of character and atmosphere, fabulous for a ski trip..
