Newly refurbished since 2019, reopening in April 2022. Family run country hotel in the North East of Scotland. Ideal location for visiting local whiskey distillery, country walks and fishing. Homemade food, local produce. Function room available for parties, weddings etc seat approx 120, private dining room seating up to 10 and private lounge available for meetings, or relaxing atmosphere after a private dining event.
Lovely and cosy, recently renovated, pub and restaurant. Fantastic warm welcome and service, super scrummy food and a perfect array of beverages available to accompany the fabulous food. Well worth the visit and will certainly be back when visiting the area. Cheers to Lisa and Neil! See you soon 😍🤟🏼

I've arrived here twice after driving for half an hour to find it closed despite their opening hours claiming they are open. Wasted journey and after the last time I've sworn I won't be back. I had a meal once with 2 colleagues and the food was really disappointing and not good value for money . The service was lacking and the atmosphere wasn't great as it was extremely quiet. I've stayed here many times over the years for work and it's a shame that it's just not what it used to be.

Good evening Holly, We are sorry to hear that you have missed us when you have visited us recently and that a previous visit has not been what you have expected. I cannot say when you would have visited to find that we are not open as we are open every day except Mondays from 7am-2pm for our cafe and 5pm until late with our bar. Any issues that do arise are very clearly publicised through our social media. As for our food, we have never had anyone state we are not value for money and have in fact been advised that we are extremely reasonable for what we offer. We do understand that people do not feel things are as they have been in the past anywhere and I am sure you can understand things have changed dramatically but we continue to do the very best we can in some very difficult times. We do hope you will visit us again and feel free to contact us directly when you plan to do so.

We live local and it has t been open for ages. When it did finally open, we thought we would try the food, only to see a sign saying food is off till further he notice. This seems to be a regular thing, and the owners seem to close up when they choose. We have since heard other bad reports, the entertainment rubbish etc.

Good morning Carolyn, Thank you for taking the time to review The Bognie Arms, we are sorry we haven’t been notified of your disappointment within the last 9 months since you have stated you visited us. We are sorry you didn’t feel the venue was to your liking this is disappointing to us as everyone that has visited has stated they like the new look and feel of the venue, however let us please briefly cover the other points you have brought to our attention. Firstly in regards to the not opening for ages, we were indeed closed for 3 years to fully refurbish The Bognie Arms, and in additional this was also during COVID so obviously nowhere was open. Secondly if you do live locally I am sure you will have been involved in the vast communication and support we have had for and with our local community and the constant updates and posts regarding ongoing works which affected our service availability in the early months, all of which were updated daily through the community by word of mouth and social media, and thirdly the ‘closing up when they feel like it’, simply does not occur. We have our opening and closing times clearly displayed. Otherwise we closed early on the day they announced the passing of the late queen out of respect (and quite rightly so). We are disappointed to hear that the venue overall is not to your taste but understand the feel and decor may not suit all tastes. We hope that you will visit us again and feel free to contact us directly to discuss anything that is of concern. If you are local feel free to call in for a chat. If not we wish you well and hope you find somewhere to suit your tastes. Kindest Regards The Bognie Team.

I stayed here because I had plans to maybe walk to GlenDronach Distillery (which after driving to, I would highly suggest NOT walking there as there isn't much of a shoulder to the road). It was kind of an awkward start. Lisa and her dog met me at the door. We immediately walked to up to my room. It felt more like a B&B than a hotel and maybe that is what this is. There is an old fashioned key for your room. I had to jiggle a bit. The bathroom was separate from my room, which was okay, but again, didn't feel like a hotel. I will admit, I had second thoughts about eating there because the room felt a little tossed together. But I was tired and didn't want to deal with traffic. I went down to the bar and had some marvelous fish and chips for £6 and Lisa was tending the bar and was fun to talk to while I ate. When I got back to my room, the WI-FI worked well and I was able to get some work done. I didn't hear the bar that night, but I also have a noise machine I turned up pretty loud just in case. They were very accommodating with serving me a 7 AM full-Scottish breakfast, I had a nice conversation with Neil who cooked it up and made the early morning accommodation. So it was 4 star on the people and food, 2 star on the room. Parking is easy, with spaces off-road in front.…

I was working in the area and wanted a cheap and cheerful place to spend the night. The Hotel fitted the bill perfectly. It’s very comfortable and the staff were very nice. The breakfast was cooked freshly and good quality. As others have said it’s a bit tired but look past this.

This place is in located on the outskirts of Huntly and is also well located to access Banff and Turriff and the local breweries which are well worth a visit. The rooms are homely and a good size. Some of the rooms are not ensuite but this does not take away from the friendly experience. The staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much and the food is great. The bar is located downstairs and also now has a cafe at the front which looks great and again the food caters for all needs.

We stayed here in August last year and were extremely disappointed. We thought we were coming to stay at a lovely country Hotel ??.it was not an Hotel there was no check in desk so no one to ask for help. The room we were in was apparently the only one which was on suite. The towels we were given looked as if they had not been washed for weeks there was no mat to step out of the shower onto just old linoleum which was slippery and dangerous one chair for a room for Two people.I see other reviews mention staff we did not see anyone but the owner Niall in the 4 days we were there. He had just dismissed his cleaning lady for being late not that we saw a cleaning lady .The wash basin in the bathroom was disgusting as there was something stuck down the drain which also looked disgusting/The breakfast had no buffet to help yourself to what ever kind of cereal or fruit juice you had to ask for them the cereal was brought out with milk already in it and the full breakfast was just a greasy mess .This place should not be calling its self an Hotel and I would say it was a truck stop and that is being kind.2 of the mornings we did not eat breakfast only toast but we were not offered a discount on paying. We were very glad to be leaving to move on to another Hotel which really was so up market in its service by comparison to the Bognie Arms. I already posted a review on another site but when I was looking back to see what the response would be it looked as if it had been removed which is why I am reposting this.…

Booked 3 nights b&b weeks in advance direct with hotel for 3 of us including 1 year old so also requested travel cot. On arrival at around 2pm on Sunday after the best part of 2 days travelling found hotel to be closed with no one around or any response when ringing. Not impressed. A local chap said normally opens around 5ish so we returned later but only to find a bar girl present who did her best to try and accomodate us but we'd already made our minds up by this stage. The carpets were worn, the whole feel of the place was unwelcoming and tatty. There was no travel cot and the first room we were given was not en suite, given another room that was and the lights didn't work! No food options other than cereal and toast!! It was now around 6 o'clock and snowing, we were tired but there was no way we were going to stay at this place so we made a few calls and checked into a hotel in Banf which was world's away from this dump. As it happened we had a fantastic week as we found alternative accomodation which our only regret is that we didn't find in the first place.…

Dear Russell, to answer your points in turn: Check in at our hotel is at four o'clock, the hotel is closed until this time, that's why there was no one there at two o'clock. As I'm sure our member of staff had informed you, I had suffered a bereavement that weekend and was stuck on the other side of the country, and had, I believed (in error), cancelled all of our room reservations, I'm truly sorry that I was unable to contact you to do the same. You were indeed initially shown to the wrong room, and one of the lightbulbs was out. I apologise for this. I'm the chef and proprietor, and of course we normally offer meals whenever there are guests staying. My plan had been to buy a travel cot specifically for your booking that weekend, but as I have mentioned, I was indisposed elsewhere at very short notice. I'm sure that you appreciate that occasionally things happen that are out-with one's control and I'm sorry that this combination of circumstances affected your trip. I'm glad that you were able to find suitable accommodation.
