- SASFall91Augusta, ME1,028 contributionsJust a peaceful, pleasant place to be. Walking or just sitting, lots of paths, fountains, little hideaways to find a space. A great kids garden with lots of fun things to explore. I walk through the arboretum every time I come to State College, usually more than once. Fall is probably my favorite but it’s worth walking through any time.Written September 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mark GCatonsville, MD3,366 contributionsFounded in 1855 as the Pennsylvania Farmers High School, it was then known as the Agricultural College of Pennsylvania in 1862, renamed the Pennsylvania State College in 1874 and finally in 1953 named Pennsylvania State University.
The campus is huge and a map from the visitors' center was a big help. We walked the grounds in November and can only image what it would look like in the spring and summer. There is an arboretum on campus, though the campus itself looks like one. There is the iconic (c.1930) Old Main, the centerpiece of campus, huge Beaver stadium, the Jordan Center, attractive architecture and landscaping, history, as well as the wonderful Berkey Creamery. In 1892 Penn State became the 1st University to offer courses in ice cream production management. They also have a very nice, but expensive bookstore.
On campus there is also the classic (c.1931) Nittany Lion Inn that was unfortunately closed due to Covid? It looks like renovations are ongoing and hopefully it will return to its status as the finest lodging in State College. Around 46,000 fortunate students call Penn State home.Written November 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Environment was fun for football. Fans were all nice and the stadium was big. Pretty crazy they can fit over 110,000 people in there. But was a fun place to check out as I enjoy visiting different stadiums.Written November 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ambassador4509176 contributionsHow exciting to return to campus to find the Palmer even more exciting! Their exhibits vary enough to satisfy all who walk through. As I was in their newest exhibit from an artist from NYC, the gentleman beside me happened to be his neighbor. I could hardly wait for the official evening reception to meet the artist in person.Written November 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Maltipoo16New York1,255 contributionsThe parking for the venue for a concert was very easy and was not a far walk. The steps to get up to the upper levels are very steep and are tall steps. It was pretty difficult/annoying to get up there for pretty much everyone while looking around. They have multiple areas selling merch for concerts and multiple concession stands open, so there was not crazy lines. The sound system was average. It was loud but sort of muffled, especially for the opening acts. It’s a decent place for a concert especially if you have closer seats.Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MrsPsPicksButler, PA464 contributionsWe each had a flight of wines.. five on a pre-set list. But they allowed a substitution. Which was nice. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Would like to come back when there is live music.Written October 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gene McCallipsState College, PA5 contributionsMy family and I have visited this site for at least 30 years. Even before children it was a place to relax and catch fish. For our children it became the one place that they always wanted to come to! Now it is a place for our granddaughter to discover the grandeur of central pa for herselfWritten August 27, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MargitState College, PA2 contributionsOverall ok .. some seats are lumpy ... and there is very poor temperature control throughout the Theater. - 1975Type2State College, PA7 contributionsIt's a football town but if you REALLY want an experience you'll be talking about for a lifetime check the calendar closely. Try to hit up a big ten Women's Volleyball match or Wrestling Event (because of capacity issues some have moved to Bryce Jordan ticket are in HIGH DEMAND) in this INTIMATE AND INTENSE venue. In the fall you can probably find a Friday night match before a Saturday football game.Written June 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
