What travelers are saying
- jvelasquAntofagasta Region, Chile89 contributionsNice beach with white sand, clear water and small tides. Kids really enjoy this place.
On sundays is incredibly crowded, the road is narrow so you will be in the middle of horribe traffice jam.
Perfect for surf.Written March 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We booked with a local tour group called Turismo Cochiguaz and had an excellent small group tour of all the local highlights including the Cross. The Third Millenium Cross is considered the tallest monument ( 83 metres ) in South America but it is located at the top of a hill in the middle of a barrio and there is no parking, so no large tour buses. Our small van dropped us off and went elsewhere to wait for us. The Cross is a monument to Catholicism and the turning of the new century. There is a ticket booth at the base and a small entrance fee. They did accept US dollars cash. Inside it has a Religious Art Museum, the largest Via Crucis (Way of the cross) in the world, with 15 stations, a chapel and bronze sculptures. The base of the monument is very open but there are multiple levels with stairs to access it and some don't have handrails. Most of the surfaces are concrete, some are quite rough and unfinished. I wouldn't recommend this if you have mobility issues. There are more stairs to different levels and view points and then tiny (3-4 people) slow elevators to take you up to the "arms" where you have the most spectacular view on a clear day. The chapel and the museum are really well done and the bronze sculptures and busts are exquisite. Photos are prohibited in the museum. There are washrooms tucked away down an alley at the base of the monument. I'm glad we made the effort to get there. It is quite a spectacular monument.Written May 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Juan Pablo R.55 contributionsA really beautiful religious temple located in the middle of Coquimbo city. It was built by a Moroccan King as a gift of fraternity beetwen the two nations. The inside has gorgeous hand-crafted wood walls and decorations. At the outside, there are beautiful sights of Coquimbo city and its bay.Written February 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SIBARITA0305Caracas, Venezuela750 contributionsThe fort was closed due to Covid-19.
But we could see it from outside and the view of La Serena from here is amazing. We could see also a galleon that makes a tour of the bay.Written December 14, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Although it was a warm sunny day, there were very few beachgoers. We were informed of the damage caused by a tsunami, the warning system installed, property costs and much more. Some graffiti evident but nowhere near as extensive as in other cities visited. However, the beach was not nice enough to convert me to a leach lover.Written May 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - nicolasopazo98Santiago, Chile10 contributionsthis place is amazing, not just the beach, the whole town is a jewel, the houses are like if you were in an old century and the people are so kind and friendly that you almost feel like if you were in home, the seafood that most of the restaurants offers is just delicious, indescribable.
I completely recommended to a tour family and if you want to have one of the greatest meals on the town I recommend you to go to the restaurant Doña Ana.Written November 22, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lots of staff so no waiting for service or attention. Part of a large hotel and resort make the whole experience a fun one.Written January 13, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EcoBeanKennington, UK275 contributionsPlaya Penuelas has been brilliantly regenerated with plenty of shared space to allow visitors to walk from Coquimbo to La Serena on uninterrupted beach walk pavement. Brilliantly laid out, the infrastructure has had massive investment, and a great deal of thought put into this beach. Cyclists, pedestrians, dog walkers, skateboarders etc can all share the space to enjoy the sea, sun and sand. There is plenty of activity going on at all times of day, with aerobics and morning yoga on the purpose built exercise platforms, to beach volleyball competitions and gym facilities at regular intervals. There are a myriad of restaurants, cafe and coffee kiosks along the whole promenade. All in all a really great place to enjoy a slow stroll, a power walk or a more energetic jog/run along the coastline. We love it!Written March 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Brissy2Hervey Bay, Australia7,550 contributionsTheir stadium (Francisco Sanches Rumoroso Municipal Stadium) is mainly used for football (soccer) and was remodelled in 2008 for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The new stadium is the shape of a ship – homage to its port and pirate lore. It has black & yellow seats – apparently some time ago they had a soccer game and the winner’s colours defined the stadium’s seating colours.Written December 14, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
