- Polly G4 contributionsThe Museum contains a fascinating juxtaposition of ancient artifacts from Guadalupe with pieces of modern art. The modern Art is available for purchase as are many smaller items in the gift shop. The cost of admission is very modest and it’s one of the more interesting exhibits that I have seen.Written February 23, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Barbara BNew York95 contributionsGuadeloupe has endless beaches and we went to a different one each day till we discovered Anse a la Gourde. As you enter the parking area, turn left and park at the far end and you will have a private lovely oasis to spend the day. There is a very nice restaurant opposite Chez Honore for a nice beach lunch.Written March 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GRZChicago, IL10,092 contributionsTo head to Pointe des Chateaux and not stop here simply makes no sense - while both completely different, and you pass literally La Douche enroute to Pointe des Chateaux, both depict the power of the ocean and provide a relaxing, almost spiritual alike experience.
I tried to fix the location of La Douche here already 3 times... it still shows incorrectly around St Francois marina... simply use Google Maps and it's EXACTLY!!! where it shows - just stop along the road, where everything looks the same which I found funny at first, go through one of the pathways through the bushes and literally within a minute or two you will be facing the ocean and be present at La Douche!
During our visit a gentleman with his kids was enjoying the bath in the actual natural swimming pool and was super cool to see how everyone was enjoying it - it almost felt like a rollercoaster experience, you know it's scary and crazy but somehow you feel "everything is under control..." somewhat here as well... but if you do end up in that natural pool do exercise caution - it is mother nature you will be facing after all... powerful and unpredictable!
TIP: again, I want to emphasize follow the Google Maps marker for La Douche - and stop as soon as you come to it on the map guided by the GPS signal - I told someone and they missed it where I know for fact it was correct because a day before we did itWritten December 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When you get to the end of the track you arrive at a restaurant with a bar and then it's a few minutes' walk through a wood down to the beach. The beach was quite crowded when we got there, but there is shade under the trees. It's easy to get into the water to swim, and although there are some rocks it's a sandy beach.
Tarare is well known as a naturist beach and is recognized by the French naturists' association. However we found a better naturist beach just west of Cluny Beach (or Clugny - both spellings are found) near to St Rose on Basse Terre. But the access to this beach is not easy, and the beach is not signposted at all, though it is marked on one map.Written February 2, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A large reason for that is the terrible access along a crappy dirt road full of pot holes and other adventures. Poor signage is also an issue. If you are prepared to navigate that, you arrive at a clean beach with turquoise blue water and white sand. On the day we were there, it was calm. But due to storms on previous days, the water was till a little churned up so visibility for snorkeling was not as good as we hoped.Written December 7, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy MLexington Park, MD27 contributionsSmall casino, limited gaming tables. All of the casino personnel were professional, warm and helpful. St Francoise does not appear to be a gambling venue.Written March 3, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - reviewercanadaCanada24 contributionsHeartily agree with totolyon69. This could be a really appealing part of Saint Francois--charming waterside restaurants and shops, a little beach, a fabulous museum, etc.--were it not for the seasonal "sargasses," which get trapped and start rotting. It's no doubt a lovely spot to wander at other times, but when we visited in July the stench was almost unbearable. It's a shame the municipality isn't addressing the problem.Written July 28, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
