I loved these trips on kayak! We were sailing all over the island, also visiting Passion island and Yalahaw. The bird islands are full of life and I can imagine how beautiful it will be when the flamingos arrive.
The kayak tours were cooling the heath of the sun, fast tan and extreme fun. To me and to my adult daughter it was much more comfortable than the speedboat. Also it was private, we took our picknick with us and ate them at Yalahaw. Very nice tours -- 3 times different routes.

Our 10+ mile kayak excursion from the port to Punto Mosquito with Arnoldo (HolboXtreme) was the highlight of our week long visit to Holbox Island. We began at the port and kayaked along the south coast and through the mangroves to Punto Mosquito and ended up along the north shore of Isla Holbox on the beach in front of our hotel. We saw so many flamingos, storks, osprey, egrets, great blue herons, frigate birds, vultures, herons and many more. A birder's paradise! Thank you Arnoldo!

Whale Sharks were beautiful!!! Thought Rennie the captain had no concern for the safety of his passengers. The waves were quite high and possibly they should of cancelled the trip. He drove the boat full throttle both ways. He was passing the other boats and driving like a Maniac!!!! He was aware how uncomfortable his passengers were and really didn't care!!!!! Once we got there in the water 2-3 total of 5-7 mins total. Not worth the experience. We got back and had to wait 25.mins for the other boat to return, we both left at the same time. They need to work on the SAFETY!!!!!!!

This is a great way to get a feel for the island. It takes you to a few of the neighboring islands, along with across the back side and you can see all of town. Highly recommend this tour.

Amazing scenario and great local guide, sadly the weather didnt really go with the tour (it was windy). Main attractions - birds and the swamp itself. Main issues - if you are of pale skin, make sure you not only use sunscreen but cover yourself properly - wetsuit for at least the legs would be the best, as water comes in and the suncreen goes off. I had second degree sun burns in both of my legs while the rest of the body was ok.
Good experience that could have been better with the right advise.

We are experienced boaters (canoe or Kayak) - is it possible to simply rent kayaks for the day for self-guided experience? We have 2 nights booked on Holbox Island.

When is the best time to come and see the whale sharks? We can come in August or beginning of September.
How far in advance do we need to book in August?
Thanks
