My partner and I decided to do something to get our adrenalin pumping so did the full day course of white water rafting, rock climbing, abseiling, high ropes and zipline. We booked through Zip Borneo & Alex was very helpful. We really enjoyed our day - the activities were well managed, the staff were fun, the food at lunch was delicious (and they cooked a special meal to cater to my gluten intolerance) and the scenary was beautiful. We had a fantastic time, and would recommend it to anyone looking to be active & outdoors!

Overall experience was great.
However we started with a hike in the quote un quote "jungle" which actually was a walk thru a mosquito infested rubber tree plantation. The trees are non native and there isn't really anything to see. Our kids are 6 & 9 This wasn't appropriate for them, and a disappointment to us as I was hoping my kids could see some native flora & fauna. Our guide didn't really explain much other than some mention of cutting rubber trees to get at the sap. He said there was jungle further ahead but since each of us was walking in our own personal cloud of Mosquitos we weren't keen to continue & cut the hike short.

The zip line climbing wall abseil and rope course were fantastic for the kids.

The guides were safety conscious and accommodated our kids even though they were on the limit as far as minimum weight was concerned. They had decent harnesses that fit the kids. There were many guide/instructors at hand, they knew what they were doing and were polite.

I recommend the man made activities.

The river was apparently to low to raft.

We left the Shangrila tanjung Aru at 8 am 1hr ride to the spot & had lunch & got back by 3.

The food was decent.

Hello, first of all thank you for taking time to review Zip Borneo, and for the 4* rating for the activities at Zip Borneo you enjoyed. I am sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the jungle hike, we are currently re-considering our trek routes - the routes we use are undergoing a slash and burn phase as the government offers subsidies, for replanting the older rubber trees that have grown naturally there. This is to create new higher yielding forested areas where the naturally grown trees have aged. Rubber trees are native trees in Borneo and are one of the top 3 exports from Sabah, so for land owners with rubber trees this in a important income stream and many people are accepting the subsidy in the area including around our treks. This has affected the parts of the trek routes closest to our camp, changing the landscape of the initial portion of the trail to that take you to the forested areas. I recently trekked there personally and was shocked at how much this had affected the routes for the first section of my trek. This did change as I continued and I am sorry you didn't get to see the full trail as there is lots of opportunity to see local ethnobotany of this area which is classed as secondary rainforest, such as local Fern, Rattan, Bamboo, Polod, fruit trees such as Tarap, Durian, Pineapples, Bananas, Bambangan, Snakeskin fruit, as well as many medicinal plants such as Tongkat Ali. Which our guides would have shown you once you progressed in the trek. However, we are working with landowners to find new routes that are more consistently vibrant and avoid these new planting areas. Even with this in mind, please accept my apologies if we didn't meet your expectations, I hope one day you can return and we can take you on a longer trek, with the new routes and get to show you the full experience free of charge. Safe ongoing travels Alex

We recently had our son's 13 year birthday celebration at Zip Borneo. The day was incredible, full of adrenalin and laughter, thank you all so much. If the food was a little more varied you would have gotten 5 Stars.

We spent one day of our action filled holiday in Kota Kinabalau rafting on the Kiulu river followed by a fantastic afternoon of activities at ZIP BORNEO. This is more than just a zip wire experience. The location has a climbing wall, an ariel assault course and an abseiling wall. The staff are fantastic, very friendly and proficient and competent with their safety briefings. We were travelling as a family of 9 people with the youngest member of the party being 10 years old and the oldest 65 years old. You do need to have an entry level of fitness for this activity as to use the zip wire you need to climb the stairs in the tower 18 metres high but I would say its achievable for most people. Everyone was catered for at this attraction and the whole family had a thoroughly enjoyable day out which is often difficult to achieve with such a varying age range. The teenagers all stated that this was by far the best day of their holiday and even the parents and grandparents had a go flying across the river too! There is also an option for lunch to be included if you take up the morning rafting option as we did but I'm sure the Zip Borneo team would help cater for any of your requirements. There is also a small shop selling a few souvenirs and refreshments.

ZIP BORNEO IS DEFINITELY WORTH A VISIT ON YOUR HOLIDAY TO SABAH, KOTA KINABALAU AND SURROUNDING AREAS!!!!

A area around zipline has a few other outdoor activities such as rock climbing, river rafting and high overhead hanging steps for people to conquer their fear of heights.

It is also a good place to picnic and chill with your family and friends because they have really big field.

As for the view, it's good!

I have mentioned our positive experience with zip borneo in my review of the resort we stayed in (shangri-la Rasa Ria), but seeing that they have their own entry here I will repeat myself slightly.
We booked our zip borneo day through our hotel. We were lucky to be the only 2 on our trip which began with a tour through some secondary jungle led by Rena and Jojo who work at zip borneo and are from the nearby villages. As such their knowledge of the jungle, its creatures and plantlife was excellent. We learnt so much more with Rena and Jojo than we would have gained just by walking around on our own.
Remember to wear decent footwear, as while the walk takes only about 1 hour, a lot of it is up/downhill and across wet jungle environment, negotiating tree roots and other obstacles. Also bring some water with you. It rained when we did our walk, something we were genuinely thankful for as it helped keep us cool. In dry conditions I can see the walk being particularly thirsty work.
After the walk, back at the zip borneo base we both took 2 zipline rides, the first across the river and the second to get back again. These were just a bit of fun, not too scary.
Overall well worth doing, a great day.

Did the Full Day Package and had such a blast! Started early in the AM with white water rafting at the Kiulu River and continued with zip lining, abseiling, and rock climbing after lunch. My favorite part had to be the ropes obstacle course. It was very challenging, but the satisfaction after completion was amazing. The staff were really friendly and helpful too! Would definitely recommend it to adventure lovers.

Heard about the Zip line while we were in Kota Kinabalu. My husband and I both had a ride. Great experience, and I don't like heights! Arranged it through Alex (alex@abilityexpeditions.com), the staff are very experienced and safety was a priority. If we had more time we would have tried more of the climbing options on offer. Would recommend to anyone. We hired a car and drove there ourselves, improved sign posting would help.
