As a member of the general public, you can only see the mansion/club from the street. It is an impressive building with beautiful grounds, however you’ll spend less than 10 minutes for a photo op. The pink Victorian across the street is cute and also well maintained.

Just two blocks from hwy 101 and with a beautiful ocean view, this gorgeous building is worth the side trip. After a photo op, look across the street and up the block to see more of Eureka's beautiful victorians. Walk along 1st or 2nd street to Old Town Eureka while you're there. It is just a few blocks away and there are great marina views, classic architecture, and awesome murals along the way.

Hi! I have notice none of these reviews are from an actual member so here you go! The inside is absolutely beautiful, almost like a museum as lots of original furniture, books, and even room that hold antique makeup and clothing. It is three stories and absolutely amazing. There is a bar, a ballroom, a full dining room, and MANY more rooms. The view from the very top of the house just gets me every time, incredibly breathe taking. I believe personally that one of the reasons they keep it private is to keep it clean and to make it feel more fancy. The food is wonderful! My favorite thing would have to be the food or the pool! (And no, unfortunately photos of the interior in the rooms are not allowed)

Been thru Eureka many times and has always seemed like on each visit there was scaffolding up on the Carson Mansion. Finally, this time, none.
The external building is ornate and gorgeous. Any Victorian era fan would not to see it. Unfortunately, today it is a private club with iron gates keeping you away. I don't recall ever seeing anyone entering or leaving the building. Thus no way of knowing what the inside looks like.

What an amazing place from the street level. There is fence all around, i took some pictures, so I could study the Victorian details in detail later. Also read up on its history on the World Wide Web… great history.

This stunning Mansion has the Old World Charm and Elegance without being pretentious.
Upon entering the staff is professional and warmly welcomes you.
The architecture is beyond one’s imagination when you actually see it in person.
When in Eureka definitely a Mansion you don’t want to miss.

It is a beautiful house and I am sure was a beautiful home at one time. It is too bad that it is in Eureka as most everything else around this place is sketchy. It would have been good to have the opportunity to tour the house. Still, it is worth the stop just to take the picture - It reminds me of the house in the game of "Life"

Here's the thing with Carson Mansion - it's beautiful. It also isn't open to the public, so the best thing you can do is drive by it, take a photograph in front of it, and head on your way. If you're going through Eureka, it's certainly worth the 5-minute detour. If you're going to make a trip especially for it - it probably isn't worth the time, unless you're a huge fan of Victorian-era architecture (or perhaps a professional photographer). You can't get too close to the house, but it is pretty to look at.

A gorgeous building with an incredible wow factor, but so much more could be done to improve the visitor experience. I understand that they don't want millions of people trampling over the lawn and through the building. But a little visitor center that has info, pictures of the inside, historical pieces, bio of the family, what the ingomar society is, etc. would make it much more of an experience.

The Carson mansion also known as the Ingomar club is a private club. The interior is spectacular
With beautiful stained glass, stunning decor, hard carved, rare and special woods throughout. Reputed to be the most oft photographed house in California
Originally a men's club, the Ingomar club accepted women members
Before the Olympic club in San Francisco

1950. Before that it was the home of the lumber baron, William Carson.

When was it built, how many rooms, what was the cost when built, who owns it presently?

Hi there!
So, the mansion was built by lumber magnate William Carson, using workers who were out-of-work due to a lumber recession. It took two years to build, and was completed in 1885. How much it cost is a tricky question, since Carson was using his own workers, and his own redwood (and other) lumber. In my research, I have not been able to find a consistent answer, but the $80,000 cost I've seen quoted seems right! The house is currently owned by the Ingomar Club, a private club--which unfortunately means that there are no tours of the house, no way to see the interior (which is spectacular). The house is over 16,000 square feet, with 18 rooms (not including the big club dining room, added much later by the Ingomar Club). Hope you get to see it!

Unfortunately they do not have tours, This is privately owned by a special club and you have to be invited by a club member to tour the inside of the mansion. But you can still enjoy the beauty of this mansion from the outside, it is indeed absolutely gorgeous.
