About
For over eight centuries "Decugnano" has been used to indicate the name of the land of the estate. The soil rich in fossils, oysters and shells, the micro climate and a wide temperature range are all factors particularly suitable for wine growing. Beside a very modern cellar, the visitor has the possibility to admire the Etruscan caves, today utilized for the production of the sparkling wine "spumante" and to mature certain wines in barrels. Within spectacular scenery, the Estate organizes guided tours to their cellars followed by wine tasting and local delicacies. WE ARE OPEN! Saturday & Sunday

    Wonderful Wine Experience
We had an incredible experience with our guide, Gianluca. He is extremely knowledgeable about wine, the history of the vineyard, and the Etruscan history on the property. He showed us the Etruscan caves where the wine is stored. Then took us to an old church to taste four wines. It was truly a great day and really made our trip to Umbria very special.

    Exceeded Expectations!
Spectacular day! Gianluca was an amazing guide. He was very knowledgable and personable. The grounds and views were breathtaking, and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine. These white wines were, by far, some of the best of our trip. You don’t want to miss this place!

Winery tour/Cooking class: can't recommend highly enough.
An amazing and wonderful experience! A tour of a vineyard in beautiful rural Umbria followed by an amazing cooking class. Angelica, our lovely host, is a trained sommelier and knows everything there is to know about grapes, vineyards, wine and the processes for making and bottling. She guided us through the fields, the bottling facility, the caves and every station involved in the creation of wine. Then we had the cooking class, which was similarly great. We did pizza, homemade pasta, a sauce and an eggplant dish. Luca, the teacher, was patient throughout and taught us a lot of great techniques and tips. We will definitely make those dishes again. All and all, a great experience, and view of beautiful Italy/Umbria far from the usual tourist track. Highly recommended.

    Amazing visit and wine tasting
We highly recommend a visit to Decugnano Dei Barbi. We had a great tour of the entire facility with our guide, Angelica, where we saw the winery, the beautifully located vineyards and the fantastic Etruscan caves, where the wine is matured, followed by a wine tasting of a selection of the exquisite Barbi wines. Al accompanied by the truly breathtaking 360-degree view of Orvieto and its surroundings. It was a mesmerizing experience which we would love to repeat any day.

    Wonderful winetasting and visit
We are a family of 5 who wanted a wine tasting experience on our holiday. The winery was quick to respond to our messages before the trip and welcomed us the day before on message. Angelica did a fantastic job with the tour. It was very good, from start to finish. After we were welcomed, we were given a tour of the winery, then we wandered past the vineyards and down to the Etruscan caves where the wine is matured. After the tour, we had a wine tasting and food that matched the wine and it was very tasty. We ended up buying all the wines from the wine tasting. We are very happy with the experience we had and would highly recommend it to others

    A Heavenly Wine Tour
We have been on many wine tours before, but this tour was exceptional. Not only are the grounds wonderful, the wine is spectacular. Our host, Angelica, was gracious, knowledgeable, and patient (we arrived a little late and couldn’t speak much Italian except the basics, which didn’t matter because she communicated well in English). She never rushed us and allowed us to take all of the time we needed. It seemed we asked her a thousand questions. The tasting took place in a renovated chapel, dating to 1212, I believe, with breathtaking views. We had delicious cured meats and cheeses, and bread with olive oil (from the property), with the wine parings. To us, the pours in the tasting were generous compared to other tours we have had. We ended up buying both the red and white wines although the area is known especially for Orvieto whites. The sparkling wine was out of this world and is aged in former tombs of the Etruscans dating back thousands of years ago (be sure to go to the wine caves on the tour). If you are in the area or passing through it, this vineyard must be on your list of things to do.

Amazing visit! Visiting Decugnano dei Barbi was the highlight of our stay in Italy. They easily accommodated my husband and I, and our three small children. Even the children enjoyed the visit. Every question we had about wine was answered by Maurizio and he was the absolute best host! The wine was amazing, as well as the lunch. We cannot wait to come back to visit. They even offered to ship the wine we purchased back to our home. The experience should not be missed. You will love it! Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything!

We had such a great time visiting Decugnano Dei Barbei. Not only was the vineyard itself, as well as the wine produced amazing, the warmth and hospitality shown to us made the experience even more rememberable. We unfortunately never made it the first day we were scheduled due to circumstances out of our control, but they reached out and allowed us to come the next day, and even assisted with a ride to and from the winery. Maurizo was beyond knowledgable about the history of the vineyard, and the production of the wine. He made us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting when staying in Orvieto. The wine we tasted truly embodies the small town in a glass. Great experience.

My second visit here was just as perfect as the first. Maurizio is a superb guide - a good level of information imparted with very clear explanations and his evident love of the wines they make.
The wines are indeed superb and the accompanying food is perfect for the occasion.
The whole environment is breathtaking and buildings are in a beautiful setting.
I know I will be returning soon as it will be difficult to resist drinking the purchases made. And my next visitors to Città della Pieve will be absolutely putting this on their must do list.

I couldn't recommend this place enough! Everything about Decugnano dei Barbi and our visit was marvellous. The grounds are tranquil and lovely, and Maurizio welcomed us in such a friendly and graceful manner. He was well-mannered, tactful and utterly charming, and gave us such a beautiful tour of the estate accompanied with fascinating tales about the history of the area and wine-making. We enjoyed every second of the tour. At the end of the tour we were treated to some incredible wines as well as delicious antipasti.

An absolute gem of a place. Thank you once again!

We stopped here for lunch, a tasting and a tour. I emailed the night before, Maurizio was very responsive and accommodating. English was no problem. The property itself is gorgeous and it overlooks the town of Orvieto which is really cool. Of the 4 wines we tasted I bought all of them. This place checks all the boxes!!!
