This scenic train ride connects central Switzerland with Lake Geneva. Passengers may travel all the way from the historic Lucerne to Montreaux and enjoy tall mountains, green valleys and endless vineyards. We boarded the train at Gstaad station and alighted at Montreux, that took about 2 hrs due to some delays. The train is clean and nice, with comfortable seats and we enjoyed the ride where we saw many natural and beautiful scenery, greenery, mountains, lakes, seas, cottages, plantations and animals etc. The views were amazing and awesome, as if the postcard photos came alive in front of us. Staff were friendly and helpful and assigned 2 carriages for our entire tourgroup where we had privacy and travel in peace! It was a lovely experience! - パパパTokyo, Japan22 contributionsVery typical scenery of Switzerland.Around the Interlaken Ost station is a lake scenery, otherwise also Interlaken Ost from Lutzen, The scenery from Interlaken Ost to Montreux was also very typical of Switzerland. The scenery was similar to that of the Glacier Express from Zermatt to Chur. I think it is better to go from Lutzen to Interlaken Ost on the right side (change the direction of travel and go in the opposite direction on the way). There is one train every hour after 9:00 a.m., so it would be better to get there a little earlier and stand in line for nonreserved seat. On the other hand, for Interlaken Ost and Montreux, I had to wait in line for an hour at the Interlaken Ost station, There are only three trains a day on this section, so I think it is better to get a reserved seat if possible.Visited August 2023Traveled soloWritten September 30, 2023
- Phillip LMelbourne, Australia364 contributionsDifferent scenery, but just as goodOur final 'tourist' train of our train journey around Switzerland and similarly to the other three, it didn't disappoint. From Montreux to Interlaken and once again in second class, which was very comfortable and offered good service, the scenery remained stunning, but different. This time, it was green pastures and farms and what we would regard as the traditional Swiss housing, but the mountains remained. The journey was about 3 hours and again, sit back and enjoy it. A beautiful ending to our train journeys - what a spectacular country.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023

Fantastic train journey, amazing scenery. The train gets busy so make sure you buy your tickets and reserve your seats in advance. The drink and snacks are expensive on the train, but you can take your own food/drink if you want.

To Experience the Golden Pass Train ride & reach Montreux , we reached Château-d'Œx railway station from Gstaad . The Château-d'Œx station is a small station and it has a small waiting area & a few shopping kiosks inside.
The train was on time and we boarded the train to Montreux . It was slightly more than an hours ride, full of amazing & picturesque views. The Golden Pass Train is very comfortable & enjoyable.
It reached Montreux on time ,after stopping at 2/3 stations in between
Overall a very enjoyable train ride

The new technology for track gauge change is interesting to see and enables the train to continue direct without engine and rolling stock change. You have enough time in Zweisimmen to get off the train and take a look at the complex undercarriage where the gauge change happens. The process is also shown on video screen inside the cars.
The onboard service from both the conductor and catering service is very poor and does not reflect their marketing and advertising. Hint: bring your own beer, wine, and cheese!

This train ride provides amazing views of the lake and the high alpine scenery. We sat in the window seats on the right side of the train but the views were equally beautiful from either side of the train.
The snow was still on the tops of the mountains and we were awestruck at the beautiful of the remote high mountain farms and villages along the route.

Traveled from Geneva to Montreux on the Belle Epoque train. In 2nd class, very nice seats, and service of refreshments at your seat. The trip was in early December and the snow was falling, it was gorgeous. Would highly recommend this trip. It was quite romantic and quiet with the snow fall.

The train never showed up in Interlaken. We took a normal régional train. They will not answer our emails or phone calls for a refund. We booked the Prestige cabin- buyer beware! The employees did tell us that the trains are frequently broken down, so know this is a risk.

I would like to travel from Paris to Montreux in September, arriving in time to take the Golden Pass to Interlaken Ost (I understand the line will be complete by then). Is this possible? If so, what is the best route to take from Paris? Thanks!

We are planning a trip on the Golden Pass line from Montreux to Zweisimmen with follow on to Zurich. My question is upon leaving Montreux which is the best side of the car to sit on for the best views. We are planning on the 0850 departure and looking at the map and the general direction of travel it seems to me that the right side would be facing the sun in the morning. Can anyone help me out with which side is the best

We are staying in Geneva and plan to take the Golden Pass train from Montreux to Zweisimmen in the morning and return back in the same afternoon. We have first class Eurail passes and would like to have VIP seats for one leg of this trip.
1)How do we know which trains/timings have VIP seats
2)It looks like there is only a 10 day window open to reserve/book and availability only on weekends. Is this the case?
3) Once we know which specific train, do you recommend that we pay for the reservation only online at this point or how do we proceed.
Thanks.

Hi there, is it possible to reserve/buy tickets to the VIP-seats on the Montreux-Zweisimmen via the web? If not how do I do to reserve the VIP-seats? I understand that they are only possible to reserve if you have a first class train ticket.

I'm thinking about a 2 day GoldenPass when I visit at the end of June - does the ticket cover all rail in Switzerland or just particular routes? We are flying into Geneva the evening of the 26th then traveling to Lausanne the next morning where we'll spend the night. During that day and the following we'd like to see Gruyere and maybe other attractions. Ultimately we need to wind up in Crans Montana the night of the 28th. Does the Golden line cover us the whole way?

Goldenpass is a panoramic train from Montreux to Lucerne. It‘s not a ticket. If you like to travel from Geneva to Gruyeres I recommend two daily tickets of the swiss travel pass either 1. or the 2. class. 1. class is more comfortable and less crowded. You can choose the days you are travelling and you can use the trains, buses and some boats and mountain railways are included or cheaper with the pass. More details you can find on the homepage of SBB. It covers whole Switzerland.

Going On Golden pass from Lucerne to Montreaux. I know it’s a slow train, but is it still very slow going down the mountain? I’m prone to motion sickness and do not want it to feel like a roller coaster.

We are a couple traveling by train from Montreux to Luzern on a Sunday and leaving luzern on Wednesday to take the train to Geneva in May. Any recommendations on train travel and reservations?

Hi there! I will be in Montreux on 1 Feb 2020 and am looking to travel to Lucerne. Is it possible to purchase a ticket in Montreux that covers all three legs of the trip, or do you have to buy a ticket at each station? If the latter, will six minutes be long enough to buy a ticket AND change trains in Zweisimmen and Interlaken?
Also, would you recommend reserving a seat on the Montreux-Zweisimmen leg? I have heard this is the busiest part of the trip. Or can I just wing it on the day?
Thanks!

Hi there! I am staying in Geneva, and will be travelling to Montreux on the same day I take the train to Lucerne, so I won't be eligible for a Montreux card - however, I do have a Swiss Half Fare pass :)
I hadn't thought about skiers! With that in mind, I think I'll reserve my seat on the Montreux-Zweisimmen leg now, as this is the part of the trip I absolutely don't want to miss out on, and will reserve the other seats closer to the date.
Thank you for your help :)
