About
Discover Yorkshire with Brontë Walks. We offer tours, guides and so much more to make your visit to Yorkshire a memorable one. I am a Blue Badge Tourist Guide for Yorkshire and my love of the county and in particular Haworth and the moors that surround it is the inspiration for my work. I offer a wide range of guides walks, tours, support for tour companies, meet and greet services, day tours, drive tours and extended tours across the whole of Yorkshire. My job is to help you discover Yorkshire and all that it has to offer. The ‘Passionate Brontës’ is our acclaimed walking tour of Haworth that tells the story of the Brontë family. I use their letters, poems and writing to weave the story into the social fabric of the times. This is offered as either a scheduled walk that all are welcome to join, or as a private tour. It is the most wonderful prelude to visiting the Parsonage Museum. The times for these walks do vary and it is best to check when they are running.

What an excellent experience! I thoroughly enjoyed my tour with Johnnie. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the Brontes and has an infectious passion for the area. I loved the way he presented the information as a story and tailored the content to my interests and questions. It was a pleasure having him as a guide when I visited the Bronte parsonage for the first time. He was also punctual, went the extra mile by giving me tips on train travel and he was very professional. I highly recommend a tour with Bronte walks.

I can’t speak highly enough of Johnnie’s wonderful tour of Haworth and the various Brontë landmarks. He was so engaging and knowledgable about every facet of the Brontës’ history that when we went to the Parsonage afterwards we were able to get so much more out of it. Johnnie’s storytelling is unmatched and myself and my friend were both mesmerised by his ability to draw us into their world (at one point genuinely bringing us to tears!). I whole-heartedly recommend his tour.

Johnnie was an absolute delight. He wove the story of the Brontes and the history of the period together, effortlessly and with finesse, and we couldn’t get enough of his tales.
I can’t recommend Johnnie’s tour enough; he was so warm and engaging! It made our trip to the parsonage afterwards so much more rewarding.
Thank you, Johnnie!

Jonnie’s incredible walking tour of the Brontë family history brought their novels to life! He is such a natural storyteller and I can’t recommend him enough. What makes him stand out is the way he draws on both historical artifacts (architecture, art, letters & diaries) and observations of the natural landscape and wildlife in the area. Our two-hour walk along the moors transported us back in time.

Our day tour with Johnnie Briggs through the Moors was incredible. We had not only found Johnnie to be benevolent and amusing, but riveting and captivating as well. Johnnie is an excellent storyteller and is extremely knowledgeable in both literature and general history. This tour served to not only to teach me about the Bronte family history, but to make my school trip to England unforgettable. Even though I had only known Johnnie for a day, by the end of the tour I felt as if I was saying a final goodbye to a longtime friend. I cannot recommend this tour enough. Thank you for making Haworth unforgettable, Johnnie.
Sincerely, your friends from Los Angeles,
Aidan and Cameron

Hello Aidan and Cameron. I just want to say thank you for your wonderful review. You are very generous in your kind words. It was a delight to host Sierra Canyon School and to share a day with you in Haworth and on the moors. I wish you well with your future studies and I look forward to sharing another walk with you. Go well. Best wishes from Johnnie, Lemony, Keith and Maggie

My sister and I recently spent 3 wonderful days taking in Brontë country with Johnnie Briggs. We enjoyed our tour tremendously. Johnnie guided us through sweeping landscapes and enthralled us with stories of the Brontes with ease and good cheer. The pacing of our tour was just right, as was the blend of activities. We had time to wander, time to reflect and to simply sit & enjoy conversation over tea. Just what we wanted. We especially loved the Brontë Parsonage Museum, Hebden Bridge, Grassington & Bolton Abbey. All were spectacular places. We are inspired by wild & beautiful Yorkshire & looking forward to a future visit. Thank you Johnnie!

Our first trip in this pandemic period. Very Covid safe. Did the passionate Brontes tour first, which was all the grounding required pre parsonage visit. These places are just buildings, but with a great guide like Johnnie, you get the stories. Particularly valuable was rooting it all in the local history and contextualising the writing.
We booked a second day, where Johnnie and I walked for several hours on the moor with our dogs, and my husband did a proper hike with johnnie’s colleague. This suited my short legs just fine! Walking the few hours with him gave me confidence to tackle a few more walks this week. Great start to our trip with lots of local recommendations.

Johnnie is such a gem. My 21 year old daughter and I decided to do a walking tour to explore the inspiration for Wuthering Heights and to learn more about the Brontës. Not only did Johnnie provide us with an informative walk, he also offered transportation and accommodation suggestions which completely changed our trip for the better. We came in on the old steam train, where Johnnie picked us up and took us to the sweetest B&B to drop off our bags. Johnnie actually saved the day with this B&B recommendation. It looked online as if all accommodations were sold out so we planned to just visit Haworth for the day. Johnnie emailed me to let me know there was a room available at Rosebud Cottage should we want to stay the night. I was over the moon and immediately felt like I was in good hands.
Next we did the walk up to Top Withins. As we walked up the trail, Johnnie not only told stories of the Brontës, but also shared the names and types of birds and plants of the region. He is so passionate about Haworth and all of its beauty and it comes through in his tour. At the end of the walk, Johnnie dropped us off in the centre of Haworth at our request and gave us some more recommendations, including treats to try when in England. I cannot recommend this tour, or any tour by Johnnie, enough. It was a highlight of our trip. Thank you Johnnie!!

We booked Johnnie to do the Brontë tour for my daughters 16th birthday, she is an avid English Lit reader and the Brontë books are her prized collection.
Johnnie was just the perfect person to spend the day with.
His knowledge of everything Brontë is outstanding, the day was simply perfect.

Johnnie was easy to speak with in order to obtain help in planning my trip to Haworth.(provided great directions to walk to Top Withens and past Bronte Waterfalls), was punctual, and spent longer with my mum and I than orignally decided (£30 for 2.5 hours was good value for money).
Very knowledgeable and passionate about all things Bronte. We just needed some time to stop and think occasionally and more room to ask questions, as the information flowed out thick and fast! But overall definitely recommended.

Hello, I apologise for the delay in replying to your question, I have been away on tour and I am just catching up.
I am sorry, we don't do any ghost walks and there is no one in Haworth who currently offers these.
The best place in Yorkshire for Ghost Walks is York. I am not sure that helps.
Best wishes,
Johnnie

Hello. We love well behaved dogs and they are welcome on our walks around Haworth, 'The Passionate Brontes' and on our moorland walks. However, there are sheep on part of the moor and they are waiting to lamb, which means that dogs have to be on a lead for part of the walks. Just to note that from March 31st to July dogs have to be on a lead because of the ground nesting birds. I hope this helps. Johnnie

Hello we are visiting Haworth on 27th and 28th October are there any tours on these dates?
Johnnie B
Oakworth, null, United Kingdom4 contributions
Hello. I hope all is well with you. Yes, we are running a Passionate Brontes tour on the Saturday morning at 10.30am. This is the tour that tells the story of the family through their letters, poems and writing, weaving the story into the social fabric of the times. It costs £7.50 per person and we meet on the Church Steps at the top of Main Street, by the red telephone box. You can buy tickets from the Guide at the beginning of the walk. We don't walk very far, about 800 meters in all, it is more about the story and we finish in the Church for the last twenty minutes or so.
If you need any further information please just ask and I will do my best to answer. I look forward to meeting you. Best wishes, Johnnie

I'm wondering if you provide a private tour of Bronte Walk? My friend and I would like to go to see heather flowers when they are in bloom. Currently planning to go around after 8/20. Please advise the fee and dates.
